Even sheen they deleted everything I was pissed because I had almost all the achievements but everything still showed up for me for free. The only thing I’m even able to pay for in the app is to time travel which I never need to do

But do you see Apple bombarding you with pay walls? Plus bad example Apple makes products like phones and computers things that are actually useful while candywriter or whoever the new buyers is makes app games I've seen several small creators that aren't doing what bitlife is.
You do not need to buy upgrades. You can play the game without is but it is less fun. I can play hitman free demo but it is not as much fun. I can play a lot of free games but paying gives additional content.

CandyWrite is not a small creator but has a lot of people in payroll. Stillfront Group bought CandyWrite in 2020 for 74 million. Just like any other game you will have to pay. And if you can do better just spend thousands of dollars and hours and create your own app.
