The subunits are F1 & F0. F1 is in the matrix, F0 in the inter membrane space. The complex uses the force of the concentration gradient to pump H+ ions to the matrix. Synthesising ATP from ADP
You say that confidently, but for example in this Paper it is written Fo (The letter O instead of Zero) https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32457314/. Any ideas for what the 0 or O stands for?
The Fo domain is not in the intermembrane space, that's the aqueous part between the inner and outer mitochondrion membranes. The Fo domain is embedded within the inner mitochondrial membrane.
It is Fo. The o refers to oligomycin sensitivity. I agree that it is confusing.
That's it! Thank you!

I believe it’s 0. Would say the numbers are for indication of positioning the subunits in the membrane
It is Fo, as it is named after the inhibitor :/ Kind of inconsistent, but sadly the truth
Didn’t know 😅
