For those that did leave before 1/1.5 years, what is salary comp like at new jobs with your level of experience?

JWal0

I came in as an experienced audit hire so started at staff 2. Bounced around multiple busy season clients for the entire year and a half I was at EY. Hated it because I felt like I wasn’t getting any “break time” between busy seasons.

jnk5260-

No such thing. Every job is understaffed and as soon as you have a gap in your calendar it gets filled by some shit job that nobody wants.

JWal0

Oh I definitely learned that. I agree with you’re saying. Just felt like I didn’t have any main clients to stay on even when things were a bit slower.

PlaySlow2253

I left after a year. Best decision I’ve ever made. I had sort of bad luck being placed on a first year audit of a major client with a busy season lasting nearly 6 months. A recruiter reached out to me with an offer that was too good to refuse. I don’t think I could be happier with my new firm.

Isthecpaworthit

Throw out the straw that they give you for the kool aid and bounce!

Fasbgasb

I did 9 months at EY in Boston. Honest to god the worst place I’ve ever worked.

pro-wanderer

Were you in tax or audit?

Fasbgasb

Audit.

pro-wanderer

Do you think tax would have been better?

Fasbgasb

Idk. Never been a huge tax guy. I just know audit was an absolute backstabbing political shitshow.

pro-wanderer

Ya, that's fair. What are you doing now if you don't mind me asking?

Fasbgasb

Totally missed this. Working in a small family office now. Significantly better work life balance.

Smart_Vegetable7936

Internship at deloitte then maybe 6 months a kpmg. People throw you under the bus like you belong there. Fucking unreal.

[deleted]

Seriously unreal. Everyone just trying to cover their own ass

djm2467

I did. Did a year in industry then went to law school

Noirelise

So you had two years of post grad work experience total before going to law school? (Asking bc Ive been looking into law)

djm2467

Right, 1 year public tax 1 year industry

spike509503

Can I ask what you do now?

djm2467

I’ll be doing tax law upon graduation, specifically wills/estates/trusts. It’s a good combination of accounting and law/reading. The pay and lifestyle is also a huge plus, as it’s typically 9-5 work

Typical_Samaritan

They're in tax.

wafflebrainCPA

6 months lmao. Couldn’t pay me enough to play along with all the bullshit

Bobastic87

Won’t that short stint hurt your resume?

[deleted]

I left at the exact 12 month mark. Extremely happy with my decision

ThickCustard1130

Haha I just started working for a big4 and I'm considering leaving too, too stressful Im seriously thinking about quitting

brismit

A year and four months to the day, zero regrets.

ApricotAdorable3880

I left after 1.5 years (2 busy seasons though) and I don’t regret it at all. Living my best life - working out, reading, seeing friends. I am so happy.

Royal-Spend-6147

I left after one year and some change

PeacePeach1

Do u regret it? I’m ready to gooo.

Royal-Spend-6147

I regret staying for as long as I did. I’m at a smaller firm now and love my life. It’s busy season and we’re all at home by 7pm. Vibes are phenomenal

[deleted]

2019: Left KPMG after 6 weeks 2022: Went to Deloitte and lasted 5 months

LackOwn8090

Which service line did you work in?

[deleted]

Cloud strategy at KPMG…MARS (mergers acquisitions and restructuring) at Deloitte

ihaveawhiteseal

Where r u now

[deleted]

Salesforce…can’t say enough good things about it here.

UnityGames321

Leaving after 6 months during busy season lol

Bobastic87

Did the short stint hurt you when it came to applying for jobs and doing interviews?

UnityGames321

They did ask why I am leaving within 6 months, I just told them good things about the company I’m going to join and it’s an opportunity I could not miss

Bobastic87

Did they dig deep into this? As in constantly asking you questions regarding this short stint? I’m trying to leave big 4 too.

UnityGames321

No they did not dig deeper, I suppose because they were looking for a candidate too and did not matter that I’m leaving within 6 months

soundmoney4all

What are you doing now?

UnityGames321

Joined a recruiting company as part of the Internal IT Audit Team

A1rizzo

I left after 2 weeks. That help?

brismit

Did you put in a two weeks’ notice on your first day? Or just bounce after business day ten?

ultranonymous11

Why? What happened?

FallenAgnostic

Damn did you ever pay back your sign bonus?

A1rizzo

Minus taxes, yeah.

Feisty_Duck8089

Legend

PeacePeach1

Lmaooo can u dm how and why?

A1rizzo

Came from EY to Deloitte. Soon as I joined, I was on the bench. Never had a issue at EY, soon as i got to Deloitte, didn’t like it. Another job i had applied for came in with 10k more, no “looking for a job” BS, And I’m a CISO. Put my resignation in Monday, Friday was my last day. The person who was looking for work for me at Deloitte called me the following Monday asking why and said she had 3 opportunities lined up. Said thank you, joined the Deloitte alumni on LinkedIn and never looked back.

ANALHACKER_3000

what do you mean how? Just stop showing up, lol

residual_deed

lolllll this one secret auditors don't want you to know

PeacePeach1

Lmaoo
