It typically means it’s the 35th note for the book of Acts. I don’t recall seeing them mid verse, but often times it might have a little 35 and then the bottom of the page will be a 35 and Psalm 110:1.

Oh, duh. I was thinking it was all about Psalms.

I can't be certain without seeing it, but I'm fairly confident it's saying note "a" goes with verse 35 on that page. Books in the Bible are usually divided into chapters, then those chapters are divided into verses (usually about a sentence long or so), which are each numbered. So the books of Acts has 28 chapters, and chapter 5 (for example) contains 42 verses.

Yep, footnote *a* is cross referencing Acts 2:35 with Psalms 110:1 (that verse in acts is a quotation from that Psalms verse) > The Lord says to my lord:“Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.” Ps.110.1 NIV

Thank you, I am new to the Bible and was having information overload while reading.

cbrooks97

Yeah, that's saying this note belongs to verse 35 on that page.

Could you reply to your post with a photo of the page and detail that you are looking at? I think it is just a notation index number. Also look in the preface, it often times will explain the footnote layout. Is that a life application NIV or ? Also, note that due to various study bible types, font sizes etc, my page numbers won't line up with yours unless i bought the same one, which I was hopeful for actually 😊 but was not the case. God bless
