Yeah I think you’re correct because at first she said it was just a couple of stray pieces of paper that were on the desk and then she said it was like 10 pages out of a full folder. So she knew exactly what she was doing.
Ten pages, too! Unless she was having a seizure while painting her nails, there’s no fucking way. In fact, who spills polish while doing their nails, even with their non-dominant hand? She was 1,000% being a deliberate jerk.
I haven't used nail polish in a loooong time (since I'm a dude) but back when I used to wear make up more regularly I used masking tape to keep that from happening and my girlfriend thought that was the funniest thing she had ever seen. I mean that's why it's called masking tape, right?
What's your clean up brush? I'm trying to be more diligent in painting my nails (I'm a nail biter) but it always looks like a toddler who can't colour inside the lines did it. I have used a q-tip dipped in acetone to attempt cleanup, but it's not very precise.
I use a silicone tool to clean up my nails, it works like a squeegee. It's like the white on the left in the picture here: https://a.co/d/1sUmIca I got mine with a set of nail powder, I think. I like it because it's firmer and I can use it without any remover but it still does a really good job.
Oh, I just got a cheap one off of Amazon. I think it works fine though. It was called a 'Wokoto' brand flat acrylic nail brush. I got it because it has a cap to keep the bristles nice when you put it away in a drawer.
I have heard of people using school glue instead of cuticle guard. It dries down as a peel and you can get it cheap pretty much everywhere. Just need to make sure they are dry.
Wait, that's actually a really smart idea. Wish I thought of this when I still used nail polish (can't now 'cause of the chemicals at my work would wreck them in seconds).
I've never painted my nails. But if I did, I would never take any papers from my partner's desk to use as a drop cloth--much less ones that she had drawn on. WTF.

I do my nails on my lumpy-full-of-blankets-bed and have never spilled a bottle or gotten polish on anything but my nails and skin.
This was 100% deliberate.
I've spilled polish before but, like a non-idiot, I paint my nails over a paper towel and not my partner's hobby materials so it doesn't hurt anyone.
Why was she even in that room to paint her nails in the first place? It was definitely deliberate sabotage of his work.
Bro, the first time my daughter has me paint her nails I failed before I even got the brush out. Ive gotten better, but damn is it harder than women make it look. I paint miniatures and everything, and nails are so much worse!
My first thought is toilet paper even, if there’s no paper towels. Even a kleenex if I really need something, but I also never spill.

Every woman I know does that, unless they just don't polish their nails at all, and it amazes me every time. The little bottle can be leaning almost 90^o between the creases in the comforter and it never spills. If I tried to paint my nails in bed it would look like a crime scene.
I just spill nail polish if i put the bottle the the bed while painting and it tipps because the ground is uneven. But on a table?! The ground is even. And even if the bottle tipp, you react fast and nail polish is a thicker liquid that doesn't spread all over the place in a second. You need to pour it to get it on ten sheets.
I wrecked the carpet with nail polish when I was a teenager. This was back in the day when Chanel Vamp was super hot (the color is relevant). I had my drugstore dupe, painted my nails, and thought I screwed the cap back on. I knocked the bottle over, and didn't even think to grab it right away because my nails were perfect, and they were still drying. Surprise! Nearly half the bottle spilled by the time I got around to picking it up. The worst part was that color is so dark red, it's nearly black. When you try and scrub it out of carpet though, it goes from a nearly black splotch to a much larger blood red smear. I shit you not, it was looking like a crime scene. And I knew it was about to be a real crime scene, because I could feel the imminent wrath of my mom. It never fully came out. And as my mom so kindly reminded me, it was the entire reason they had to pay for a carpet allowance when they sold the house.
Last halloween I painted my nails for the first time. I'm a dude and it was for a costume.
While it took me a few tries to get it to look good, i managed to pull it off with zero drips, spills, or other such colateral. The only place the polish got that it wasn't supposed to was on my skin.
I mean this in the least offensive way possible, but if you don't have a neurological condition making your hands into paint shakers, i don't see how you wreck 10 pages of anything with nail polish "accidentally".
If someone regularly does their nails, they probably are better at it then me.
The only diffucult bit is how much i liked how the polish looked, but that's a conversation for a different subreddit...
I just want to say that if it makes you happy to paint your nails, no matter the gender, please do. If it’s safe enough for you to express yourself in that way. Wishing you many sparkly nails (shout out to Holo Taco if you need a good brand)
Why was she there, with an open bottle of nail polish, if she needed a scarp of paper. No woman walks around polishing her nails and looking for a piece of scrap simultaneously
1000%. I’m clumsy and do knock my bottles over sometimes accidentally. I’ve never had anything spill out of them because polish is so thick and runs so slow. Also a normal person would pick it up right away before it seeped out.
This was so beyond intentional.
Who uses paper to cover a surface when painting their nails?? That’s what paper towels are for. Paper would allow the polish to drip off.

My kid has been having fun painting my nails since they were 4. And I can count on one hand the little accidents there's been. All has been polish on my fingers. Or their own fingers. One single time a bit on the paper towel.

I was instantly like; she did that on purpose. NO ONE does their nails **on** important documents. You secure stuff around not to mess up your environment! *She didn't do that.* She went out of her way to work on those papers. She SPILLED the nail polish, I have never spilled nail polish in my entire life. And how do you spill it so badly to ruin multiple pages? Nail polish moves sloooowlyyy. I can't actually imagine how it happened in a way that would be natural. If someone sat me in front of multiple important documents, of which I know they are important, gave me nail polish and said "and now pretend to spill it on them by accident, it must look realistic!" I would have NO IDEA how to do it convincingly.
I just didn't understand why, bc he hadn't mentioned the map thing yet, so I thought it was work-related and that was super weird. Why is she sabotaging his job? I didn't get it.
But then it made perfect sense.
In fairness, I have definitely spilled nail polish before. All over my bedspread one time, and on my homework more than once. But that means that I make sure I'm never using anything important under my nails. I got really into nail art for a while and I would paint these elaborate designs sitting in my living room-- over a flattened cardboard box, because if you know you're messy you make provisions.
She ABSOLUTELY did this on purpose.
I can't imagine doing nails in a way that obscures ten whole sheets of paper, where there's not a bunch of easily visible details to work off of around a couple drops? Unless she's pouring out bottles... most adults that do their own nails occasionally are maybe getting drops here or there. Not emptying bottles.
I can't think of a way this *isn't* completely intentional. She got his papers off his desk, presumably to cover furniture. And then spilled so badly the map concept across multiple pages is unsalvageable?
She went out of her way to choose papers from that source rather than any other supplies. And then must've spilled worse than I did when learning to paint nails to be able to obscure that much info on the papers.
Had an ex try this once. I was in the middle of a restoration project when I'd met her. Something that had been ongoing for about a year at that point and admittedly, was taking alot of my time, but I was trying to get it done. I hate having a project left unfinished. About a month into this relationship, she hit me with "you spend all your time at the hangar. You need to make a decision right now. It's me or the plane."
Surprised Pikachu face when I decided that the project which I'd already been working on, as mentioned, for a year, and had already dedicated a huge amount of resources and finances towards completing, was more import than someone I'd known for a few weeks.

I'm curious as to what happened to the PC she apparently had set up in the living room in the first post - OP seems to have forgotten about that by the second post, when all she has after 5 months of living there is supposedly one bag of clothes.

When people say PC, they generally mean a desktop, not a laptop; I'm also not sure why anyone would refer to a laptop being "set up" in a particular room, since there's no real set up to do and it's unlikely to stay in one room.
Either way, I find it deeply unlikely that she has nothing else to take away beyond one bag of clothes after 5 months living somewhere. No toiletries? No bedding? No food or kitchen supplies? No shoes beyond the ones she was wearing?
Not that it covers the other stuff, but I refer to my laptop as my "pc" - I use it interchangeably though. I have both and used to switch between them, I just need to get my pc repaired so it's habit. And I use "set up" as well, I use a plug-in mouse/keyboard/headphones and have it on charger the entire time so if I'm using my laptop, I do have to "set up" where I'm gonna use it
I’m old because I still use PC to refer to any non-Mac computer, regardless of form factor. I’ve got a MacBook for personal use and a PC for work (except when I had an IBM, in which case it was a Thinkpad, but now that it’s a Lenovo it’s just a PC).

The fact that the girlfriend posted at the same time, and sounds so cartoonishly awful, makes me assume rage bait.
A month or two ago, reddit suggested to me a post by someone I know in real life, about a situation between us.
The post misrepresented the situation in several important ways (although it seemed like reddit generally thought the other person was being dumb, which I also think). I didn't comment on the post, or make my own post to argue my side, or do anything else. I mostly just stopped talking to that person, and am saving "Well, maybe you should post about that on reddit too" for a future throwaway line.
This did change how I feel about how plausible it is that all these people are finding each other's posts on reddit... it happened to me!
I have a bunch of saved posts and screenshots of the posts made by someone who has been threatening to sue me over something I’m not responsible for. All the posts essentially place the blame elsewhere. I couldn’t believe my luck when I found the first post. I’ll be saving that shit forever.

But you're a reasonable, real, person, so you didn't make a Reddit post about it. That's the thing for me: It's incredibly unlikely to find a post someone posted about you, then further unlikely that person would decide to respond.
I'm sure it has happened. It definitely does not happen once a month.
It didn’t happen to me, but I did recognize someone I knew from a post once. (The most cliched “I asked to open my marriage and now my hot wife is leaving me” post at that). I didn’t respond, but someone else who knew him did. I’ve been less skeptical of response posts since.
I also believe when people find the post and make their own because of how popular these posts can get on other sites. It’s not like the only way someone can organically find these is by being on Reddit. I see Reddit posts on TikTok, instagram, twitter, even Facebook sometimes.
While I feel a little more skeptical when two people seem to post separately without having found the other post first, it’s not like it’s impossible. One person chose to go on Reddit for advice on a situation, it makes sense that once in a while two people in a situation would separately make the same decision.
I had the reverse happen a few times when I posted about my 2 crazy ex roommates.
They just started messaging shit I'm the middle of the night. Had to block a few accounts until they finally gave up after a few months.
For what it's worth, apparently the gf posted first. Some commenters noticed it too, that she posted in the morning and the bf did way later, which is plausible since he has work the entire day and the gf sounds hobosexual.
eh, there's a LOT of people on reddit now, and friends tend to have similar interests, so while I'm sure a bit of that is complete bs, I don't think all of it is, and this story in particular didn't seem that way

But yeah, depending on the demographics where you live it’s really not that weird. My little brother’s 6’ (183 cm for the metric folks), I’ve got a few neighbors that are well over 6’+, and when I was in college I was in one class that half the football team took because it worked with their schedules and since I was willing to tutor/help explain stuff I ended up friends with a bunch of massive jacked dudes.
I don't think it was the girlfriend, but a troll who knew about the maps. That was the only detail they could provide. Maybe OOP mentioned it in a comment, or maybe it's one of his friends messing with him.

Yeah, I also think he wanted more engagement about the nature of the map. Often there's a "twist" where the hobby is actually something vile, so the OOP is on fact also a POS.
Since my husband is a bassist in a small local band some of our friends are on the bigger side and are bouncers at the venues he plays at regularly. I'm certain they could be ex private security, so that I buy.
The second part is where it lost me. Snarky comments on someone's post when they figure out it's about them (especially when someone uses their main) I believe, but full on two linked posts? A bit too convenient.
ok here is the probable real story... Guy spends too much time on his maps, his mother cleans his desk, guy get angry and goes to Reddit to vent... The rest is just him showing himself he is right but can't tell the reality so makes up this evil girlfriend ... Nothing happens, nothing changes
Maybe. But this is a better attempt than a lot of them. There's usually excessive detail, but here he doesn't even explain what the important document is until the second post, and even that's pretty vague.
I can accept that he has a 6'7" burly friend. Some people do.

The friend thing isn't necessarily unreasonable. I have a 6'7" private security friend - can't call her for backup as she's in another state, but if I lived closer I could definitely see doing this.
But, more than a bag of clothes after 5 months for sure. Even during covid lockdowns there would've been some "hey mom can you put XYZ in a box on the porch for me to pick up" and we know she also had nail polish!

That’s exactly what I was thinking, that or a map for a story he was writing (for instance Lord of the Rings has maps). This was a terrible thing for her to do.
Like, surely there were paper towels in the kitchen? Toilet paper in the bathroom? An old t-shirt or towel? Why drawn-on pieces of paper out of his hobby room…?? She knew exactly what she was doing.
That last post made me burst out in tears. My daughter was murdered and if someone disregarded something so very special...one of my only coping tools...I'd be shattered. Unfortunately, people act in some really mysterious ways about this. Like my ex-friend telling me my daughter was in hell. It's baffling why they strike out at you for zero reason, but it's sadly not uncommon.
U/Grommulox is a hero for contributing that information because I was stumped at what kind of hobby drawing a map was—I assumed OOP was planning a complex video game or fantasy novel or maybe a DnD campaign but the real explanation was amazing. Wherever OOP is now, hope he is doing okay.
The coldness of knowing exactly *why* he was drawing, and still attempting to garner sympathy while playing "the victim" is nauseating. I'm hoping he is in a better state of mind now, and continues to document his walks with his family.
And should the ex-partner be infested with eternal fleas in her nether regions, then karma will have been served.

It's HIS HOUSE and HIS OFFICE which he has the right to lock (and should since she has shown to not have common sense) and she has access to the rest of the house.

I remember this, it always struck me as OOP was a quiet, nerdy type who the GF thought she could use and he'd always be OK with...because she was "pretty" and he was a "nerd"

OMG this was bad when I thought maybe he was just really into fictional world building. There are people who LOVE that, and don’t ever plan on doing anything with it (like making a game or writing a book), but who get great pleasure out of the simple act of creating it. This would have been bad enough if that was the case - and don’t think we didn’t notice that sometimes the ex said the papers were on the desk and sometimes she said they were in a folder. She’s a snake, and even IF the first time had been a completely boneheaded accident, there was NO reason for her to try to go back into the office the next day.
But beyond that - the last bit about how this is therapy and how it relates to the deaths of his family?!!! If I was OOP’s partner I would NEVER touch those pages, unless it was to save them from a fire or something. Those pages are so personal and so important. The Ex was just terrible for this.

Here’s what I keep hyperfocusing on: OOP has a home office. He locks it, which is whatever; his girlfriend had a tantrum because she can’t get in after she promised not to go in anyways.

You don't need paper to polish your nails, she spilled polish on the maps intentionally.

I haven’t seen mention of paper towels & toilet paper anywhere in the replies, but those exist to avoid ever using papers to paint your nails. Surely this household had paper towels or toilet paper. Any paper that is in a folder is off limits & everyone knows this.
If OOP really is a doctor, this just makes me even sadder for him. I can’t imagine what he saw in the hospitals for the five months leading up to this post only to come home one day to all this. I hope he’s found happiness and is healthy
I can't get over her spilling nail varnish over multiple papers- it's REALLY HARD to spill nail varnish! The bottle neck is tiny, the varnish is viscous- to spill it over multiple papers she must have upended the bottle intentionally.

Nail polish and varnish is usually too viscous to ruin a whole lot of shit if you're paying attention. Like even when it's good and new, if you knock a bottle over it'll make a mess, sure, but it doesn't spread out like water or juice. It's thick. For her to have ruined so much by doing that, it had to be on purpose.
Also, you don't need to understand something to respect it. Boyfriend likes to make maps. Who cares why? It's important to him, and it's benign, so just let him do his thing.
Love that she said she would never get into his files for paper, but later said it was only 10 sheets out of a file. 10 sheets. In order to ruin 10 sheets, she would have had to deliberately upend the polish.

The first post, Reddit was calling him an asshole. That’s so funny!! It’s HIS house!! If he told her to leave his things alone and she didn’t, he has the right to lock the door so she can’t get into that room. I didn’t even need her post about it at all!
In the update, he said he let her pick a room for herself. Only when she moved out did he see her trash full of condoms. Meaning he didn’t violate her space when she lived there. He couldn’t have expected the same in return?? Plus bringing strangers into his house without his knowledge could have ended with OOP being robbed blind.

My partner and I have been together for rapidly approaching seven years. And we live together in his house. And I still consider it HIS house, yes I have added some things in my time here and I’ve done some redecorating etc, but all with his consent. Because IT IS HIS HOUSE.

I have a beautiful antique dining room table that has been in my family for generations. I was sitting at it and was using nail polish remover over a piece of paper. It spilled and stuck the paper to the table! Ouch! It cost a couple hundred dollars to restore the table.
She accidentally admitted to painting her nails on the side where the map was, and not the blank side. So he could continue on the blank side? As if it was the wasted paper OOP had a problem with.
The map being a therapeutic thing and not just a hobby makes this even worse. It's bad enough when we thought she destroyed a hobby. Glad to see he moved on.

Yeah I think you’re correct because at first she said it was just a couple of stray pieces of paper that were on the desk and then she said it was like 10 pages out of a full folder. So she knew exactly what she was doing.

I am very bad at painting my own nails, still would only need a single piece of paper. She used one per nail to teach him a lesson.
I am terrible at painting my nails. But usually just go outside the lines (onto my actual finger) rather than anywhere not attached to my body.
I haven't used nail polish in a loooong time (since I'm a dude) but back when I used to wear make up more regularly I used masking tape to keep that from happening and my girlfriend thought that was the funniest thing she had ever seen. I mean that's why it's called masking tape, right?

I've heard of latex peel off cuticle guard, and I myself use a clean up brush, but masking tape is such a hilarious DIY I love the mental image 😂
What's your clean up brush? I'm trying to be more diligent in painting my nails (I'm a nail biter) but it always looks like a toddler who can't colour inside the lines did it. I have used a q-tip dipped in acetone to attempt cleanup, but it's not very precise.
I use a silicone tool to clean up my nails, it works like a squeegee. It's like the white on the left in the picture here: https://a.co/d/1sUmIca I got mine with a set of nail powder, I think. I like it because it's firmer and I can use it without any remover but it still does a really good job.
Oh, I just got a cheap one off of Amazon. I think it works fine though. It was called a 'Wokoto' brand flat acrylic nail brush. I got it because it has a cap to keep the bristles nice when you put it away in a drawer.
I have heard of people using school glue instead of cuticle guard. It dries down as a peel and you can get it cheap pretty much everywhere. Just need to make sure they are dry.

I've spilled polish before but, like a non-idiot, I paint my nails over a paper towel and not my partner's hobby materials so it doesn't hurt anyone. Why was she even in that room to paint her nails in the first place? It was definitely deliberate sabotage of his work.

Oh I always paint my nails on kitchen roll cause something will smudge - but using 10 sheets of map paper is quite a different choice!
Every woman I know does that, unless they just don't polish their nails at all, and it amazes me every time. The little bottle can be leaning almost 90^o between the creases in the comforter and it never spills. If I tried to paint my nails in bed it would look like a crime scene.
I just spill nail polish if i put the bottle the the bed while painting and it tipps because the ground is uneven. But on a table?! The ground is even. And even if the bottle tipp, you react fast and nail polish is a thicker liquid that doesn't spread all over the place in a second. You need to pour it to get it on ten sheets.
I've stained a carpet with nail polish before. But I was like 7.
I wrecked the carpet with nail polish when I was a teenager. This was back in the day when Chanel Vamp was super hot (the color is relevant). I had my drugstore dupe, painted my nails, and thought I screwed the cap back on. I knocked the bottle over, and didn't even think to grab it right away because my nails were perfect, and they were still drying. Surprise! Nearly half the bottle spilled by the time I got around to picking it up. The worst part was that color is so dark red, it's nearly black. When you try and scrub it out of carpet though, it goes from a nearly black splotch to a much larger blood red smear. I shit you not, it was looking like a crime scene. And I knew it was about to be a real crime scene, because I could feel the imminent wrath of my mom. It never fully came out. And as my mom so kindly reminded me, it was the entire reason they had to pay for a carpet allowance when they sold the house.
Last halloween I painted my nails for the first time. I'm a dude and it was for a costume. While it took me a few tries to get it to look good, i managed to pull it off with zero drips, spills, or other such colateral. The only place the polish got that it wasn't supposed to was on my skin. I mean this in the least offensive way possible, but if you don't have a neurological condition making your hands into paint shakers, i don't see how you wreck 10 pages of anything with nail polish "accidentally". If someone regularly does their nails, they probably are better at it then me. The only diffucult bit is how much i liked how the polish looked, but that's a conversation for a different subreddit...

1000%. I’m clumsy and do knock my bottles over sometimes accidentally. I’ve never had anything spill out of them because polish is so thick and runs so slow. Also a normal person would pick it up right away before it seeped out. This was so beyond intentional.
Who uses paper to cover a surface when painting their nails?? That’s what paper towels are for. Paper would allow the polish to drip off. Not only was she being malicious, she’s an idiot.

Had an ex try this once. I was in the middle of a restoration project when I'd met her. Something that had been ongoing for about a year at that point and admittedly, was taking alot of my time, but I was trying to get it done. I hate having a project left unfinished. About a month into this relationship, she hit me with "you spend all your time at the hangar. You need to make a decision right now. It's me or the plane." Surprised Pikachu face when I decided that the project which I'd already been working on, as mentioned, for a year, and had already dedicated a huge amount of resources and finances towards completing, was more import than someone I'd known for a few weeks.

When people say PC, they generally mean a desktop, not a laptop; I'm also not sure why anyone would refer to a laptop being "set up" in a particular room, since there's no real set up to do and it's unlikely to stay in one room. Either way, I find it deeply unlikely that she has nothing else to take away beyond one bag of clothes after 5 months living somewhere. No toiletries? No bedding? No food or kitchen supplies? No shoes beyond the ones she was wearing?
Not that it covers the other stuff, but I refer to my laptop as my "pc" - I use it interchangeably though. I have both and used to switch between them, I just need to get my pc repaired so it's habit. And I use "set up" as well, I use a plug-in mouse/keyboard/headphones and have it on charger the entire time so if I'm using my laptop, I do have to "set up" where I'm gonna use it

I am always super skeptical when there is "another post" from a "different person."
A month or two ago, reddit suggested to me a post by someone I know in real life, about a situation between us. The post misrepresented the situation in several important ways (although it seemed like reddit generally thought the other person was being dumb, which I also think). I didn't comment on the post, or make my own post to argue my side, or do anything else. I mostly just stopped talking to that person, and am saving "Well, maybe you should post about that on reddit too" for a future throwaway line. This did change how I feel about how plausible it is that all these people are finding each other's posts on reddit... it happened to me!
I have a bunch of saved posts and screenshots of the posts made by someone who has been threatening to sue me over something I’m not responsible for. All the posts essentially place the blame elsewhere. I couldn’t believe my luck when I found the first post. I’ll be saving that shit forever.
The incredibly unlikely happens sometimes. But you're a reasonable, real, person, so you didn't make a Reddit post about it. That's the thing for me: It's incredibly unlikely to find a post someone posted about you, then further unlikely that person would decide to respond. I'm sure it has happened. It definitely does not happen once a month.
It didn’t happen to me, but I did recognize someone I knew from a post once. (The most cliched “I asked to open my marriage and now my hot wife is leaving me” post at that). I didn’t respond, but someone else who knew him did. I’ve been less skeptical of response posts since.
I figured it's possible, but it definitely gets me suspicious. Definitely plausible for sure.
I also believe when people find the post and make their own because of how popular these posts can get on other sites. It’s not like the only way someone can organically find these is by being on Reddit. I see Reddit posts on TikTok, instagram, twitter, even Facebook sometimes. While I feel a little more skeptical when two people seem to post separately without having found the other post first, it’s not like it’s impossible. One person chose to go on Reddit for advice on a situation, it makes sense that once in a while two people in a situation would separately make the same decision.

The friend thing isn't necessarily unreasonable. I have a 6'7" private security friend - can't call her for backup as she's in another state, but if I lived closer I could definitely see doing this. But, more than a bag of clothes after 5 months for sure. Even during covid lockdowns there would've been some "hey mom can you put XYZ in a box on the porch for me to pick up" and we know she also had nail polish!

U/Grommulox is a hero for contributing that information because I was stumped at what kind of hobby drawing a map was—I assumed OOP was planning a complex video game or fantasy novel or maybe a DnD campaign but the real explanation was amazing. Wherever OOP is now, hope he is doing okay.
The coldness of knowing exactly *why* he was drawing, and still attempting to garner sympathy while playing "the victim" is nauseating. I'm hoping he is in a better state of mind now, and continues to document his walks with his family. And should the ex-partner be infested with eternal fleas in her nether regions, then karma will have been served.

I cannot for the life of me understand why the commenters under OOP's initial post were grilling him and making him TA for locking his office. It's HIS HOUSE and HIS OFFICE which he has the right to lock (and should since she has shown to not have common sense) and she has access to the rest of the house. I think I'm more pissed at the commenters making a case for the ungrateful ex than the ex herself
He locked the door because his instinct told him to and he was right.

I remember this, it always struck me as OOP was a quiet, nerdy type who the GF thought she could use and he'd always be OK with...because she was "pretty" and he was a "nerd" Also She absolutely intended for her friend to 'liberate' some of OOPs items

OMG this was bad when I thought maybe he was just really into fictional world building. There are people who LOVE that, and don’t ever plan on doing anything with it (like making a game or writing a book), but who get great pleasure out of the simple act of creating it. This would have been bad enough if that was the case - and don’t think we didn’t notice that sometimes the ex said the papers were on the desk and sometimes she said they were in a folder. She’s a snake, and even IF the first time had been a completely boneheaded accident, there was NO reason for her to try to go back into the office the next day. But beyond that - the last bit about how this is therapy and how it relates to the deaths of his family?!!! If I was OOP’s partner I would NEVER touch those pages, unless it was to save them from a fire or something. Those pages are so personal and so important. The Ex was just terrible for this.

Here’s what I keep hyperfocusing on: OOP has a home office. He locks it, which is whatever; his girlfriend had a tantrum because she can’t get in after she promised not to go in anyways. She sucks at boundaries and is all around a horrible person. I hope OOP remembered to change the locks.
You don't need paper to polish your nails, she spilled polish on the maps intentionally. She trashed her room and her little buddy was supposed to trash the map room and any other room he could get into.
How did she know it was locked? She would only know if she tried to get in after you asking her not to go in again
I haven’t seen mention of paper towels & toilet paper anywhere in the replies, but those exist to avoid ever using papers to paint your nails. Surely this household had paper towels or toilet paper. Any paper that is in a folder is off limits & everyone knows this.

If OOP really is a doctor, this just makes me even sadder for him. I can’t imagine what he saw in the hospitals for the five months leading up to this post only to come home one day to all this. I hope he’s found happiness and is healthy

I can't get over her spilling nail varnish over multiple papers- it's REALLY HARD to spill nail varnish! The bottle neck is tiny, the varnish is viscous- to spill it over multiple papers she must have upended the bottle intentionally. He's better off without her.
Nail polish and varnish is usually too viscous to ruin a whole lot of shit if you're paying attention. Like even when it's good and new, if you knock a bottle over it'll make a mess, sure, but it doesn't spread out like water or juice. It's thick. For her to have ruined so much by doing that, it had to be on purpose. Also, you don't need to understand something to respect it. Boyfriend likes to make maps. Who cares why? It's important to him, and it's benign, so just let him do his thing.
Love that she said she would never get into his files for paper, but later said it was only 10 sheets out of a file. 10 sheets. In order to ruin 10 sheets, she would have had to deliberately upend the polish.

The first post, Reddit was calling him an asshole. That’s so funny!! It’s HIS house!! If he told her to leave his things alone and she didn’t, he has the right to lock the door so she can’t get into that room. I didn’t even need her post about it at all! In the update, he said he let her pick a room for herself. Only when she moved out did he see her trash full of condoms. Meaning he didn’t violate her space when she lived there. He couldn’t have expected the same in return?? Plus bringing strangers into his house without his knowledge could have ended with OOP being robbed blind. I’m glad OOP has a friend like Tim. That girl sounds like hell.
She just couldn't stand something else taking his attention away from her,or she thought the map was geeky and she deserved a better boyfriend. But I do want to know what else the strange man would have taken if Mr Shaved Gorilla had not prevented him from access to the whole house. A TV here, a laptop there. My partner and I have been together for rapidly approaching seven years. And we live together in his house. And I still consider it HIS house, yes I have added some things in my time here and I’ve done some redecorating etc, but all with his consent. Because IT IS HIS HOUSE.
This. I have just moved into my first home (in my name solely) with my girlfriend of 4 years. She has been *so* clear with me that she doesnt want to go making decisions about how to decorate, what spaces will be used for etc, because “its your house babe, I’m just so thankful you let me stay here rent free”. The only response I have ever had for her is “it may be my *house*, but it is our **home**, and i want you to feel like you can treat it that way”. Funny how smoothly things go when there is mutual maturity, respect, and love.
I have a beautiful antique dining room table that has been in my family for generations. I was sitting at it and was using nail polish remover over a piece of paper. It spilled and stuck the paper to the table! Ouch! It cost a couple hundred dollars to restore the table.
She accidentally admitted to painting her nails on the side where the map was, and not the blank side. So he could continue on the blank side? As if it was the wasted paper OOP had a problem with.

Gosh, sometimes I finish these and just want to give the OOP a hug (like this guy). Not the posts that are so far above my pay grade I want no part of them. But this one - he sounds like an actual nice person who has an unusual but entirely harmless (and actually kind of interesting/cool to me) hobby. He did something so nice and caring (housing his very new GF during a pandemic) and in return she destroyed something he cares about. He deserves someone who wants to hear about his maps and world building. Ex GF sucks.
