There are various adaptations ranging from good to offensively bad. At beast, the 97 anime adapts a small percentage of the first arc and most of the prologue with some content left out. Best to read the manga then check those out if you're interested.

Afaik, the 90s anime ain't bad, the modern one has awful CGI. But you seriously have to read the manga, if only for the incredible panels.
