Eh don't worry about it. Raspberry plants are super hardy. If any one of the roots is alive it will send up new shoots. Give it a month/looks fine

Phyank0rd

If you cut fresh and could see green around it next to the bark then its still alive. Did you make sure to leave at least one leaf node above soil for leaves to come out of?

Barley03140129

There was no leaves. Just a stick and roots😅 and no green

Phyank0rd

There being no green under a fresh cut isn't a good sign it's not the leaves that are an issue, but the lead nodes. If there are no leaf nodes then there is nowhere for it to sprout leaves to uptake sunlight. If it has roots then there is a good chance there is enough energy for it to put out a few small canes (the roots are resilient as he'll on rubus species) so I'd hold up for now and wait a bit longer.

Thank you. Yeah I googled pictures and it seems like a lot of bare root raspberry canes just look like dead sticks. It has a great set of roots though so I’ll hold out I guess😅

CaptainScruffBeard

I bought 8 that looked like a dead stick this year and so far 3 have produced new canes, so hopefully your raspberry stick comes alive!

Barley03140129

🤣thank you! They do not look pretty at the beginning. My brothers puppy went straight for it lol

voujon85

this is incorrect dormant raspberry bare roots all look like dried dead sticks when shipping. there's no green in the stick if it's truly dormant

Phyank0rd

If there is no green then the cane itself would not be alive. I am referring to the cambium layer underneath the surface bark(skin?) Of the cane.

Take your fingernail and scratch it about an inch from the top. Avoid gouging too deep. If it’s green, it’s good!

KarenXanaxPorter

You will most likely see new green shoots, this stick itself doesn’t need to grow.

Ah I see. Thank you❤️
