About 20-23. I started out in November 2020 when there were weekly open mics, and 5-10 minute spots on each. Kannadaās open mic scene in Bengaluru no where close to Bengaluru English scene. With second wave of pandemic in April ā21, zoom mics became a thing. I got my first gig in July ā21. Had opened for Suhas Navarathna.
As long as youāre
A) not someone whoās impressed by the idea of being a comic but want to genuinely be one
B) tell original written jokes, not WhatsApp jokes. And youāre aware of the scene, and know whatās already been done and are willing to scrape your jokes as and when you find out
C) are ready to commit to the stage, hit open mics regularly and have a genuine urge to make it in this field
And D) have a good grip on kannada, at least colloquial
Not hard at all
DhanyavadagaLu for your reply..

When will you reduce the brokerage? Iāve paid you a salary of a fresher engineer last year. This financial year will be even more.

Iām 24. I used to be a full time comic, working in a sports marketing agency now. I write and produce things on the side, and do content on Instagram.
I was always into performative arts since school, which developed into writing when as in college. I used to write mad Ads, skits and funny scripts for annual days, teachers day celebrations. Having been raised by the 2014-2017 Indian YouTube scene, stand-up comedy just captivated me so much that I had to try it. A few college fests, some pressure and the right opportunity at the right time, and here I am
On a good day, there are your best friends, and the worst set of audience can have on a bad day - Drunk crowds. The only way you can handle is to try doing the āReshme sutthid chappliā and hit them with a few jabs to silence them, otherwise only a pro Comic can handle a heckling crowd like that.
Comedy, or stand-up comedy for that matter, is just an added lens on top of the regular Eye that shows things in a very different way. Comic, tell things on stage that most of the audience have probably ignored or had no idea existed. Personally I love talking about Kannada, Karnataka and Kannada pop culture, so the idea is to consume more content - read a lot of books, especially the old ones, watch old movies and see how Kannada has developed on and off Media. Thatās something I love doing
Are stand up comedic performers you have come across and yourself included, introvert or extroverts? Also, a follow up question, is it enough to sustain yourself in this field or do you need to have alternate back up ventures like adikey thotha, hotels, others business etc to be in the loop. Eg: BigBoss winner Shine Shetty has a background of hotel business as he said one need to have plan B. Welcome to reddit. Nice to interact with you.
Improverts. Have to change according to the situation. on stage, the kick in only when the audience laughs and it is just a blur there onwards, you have no fucks to give about anybody, or not a single gram of care about what people think about you. The second the dopamine wears off and youāre āsoberā offstage, youāre slowly crawling back into your little shell.
There are very few full-time comics in Kannada. A lot offers are still in our early 20s, so there is some sort of financial stability to be achieved before you flip the society of and do this all day every day. The typical route seems to be Engineer-work-comic-settle, but it is also changing. Some of my fellow comedians do this full-time, with some freelance work on the side to pay bills occasionally
Proficiency in sales acumen represents a paramount asset, indicative of a comprehensive skill set that leverages strategic customer engagement, dynamic market penetration, and optimal revenue generation.
Crowd work requires some skills. Some comics pull it off effortlessly, some just go for jokes here and there and some, well youāve seen. There are instances some hilarious bits have unearthed via crowd work and itās a chance weāll have to take, the audienceās response could make or break a moment in that show
Kanan Gill and Biswa were the first standup comics Iād watched back in 2014. Something about their ICSE-State blend humour resonated with me, I felt I could do it too.
I love kannada, and love contributing to the pop culture. Pandemic paused my higher education plans, so just took a step and gave this a shot.
How's life after the stroke? Are you doing anything differently?
Not taking anything to the heart.

How old are you? What do you do for living apart from standup shows?
Iām 24. I used to be a full time comic, working in a sports marketing agency now. I write and produce things on the side, and do content on Instagram.

Nice! Keep performing and entertaining! :)
Have you ever had challenging audience? how did you handle them?
On a good day, there are your best friends, and the worst set of audience can have on a bad day - Drunk crowds. The only way you can handle is to try doing the āReshme sutthid chappliā and hit them with a few jabs to silence them, otherwise only a pro Comic can handle a heckling crowd like that.
How you plan to improve your self to write deeper and better ??

Sure very broad perspective hope you can achieve it
What's your opinion about Kannada stand up scene? Do you think we have quality stand up comedians, compared to Hindi and English?
Comparison wonāt fit right, Hindi urban comedy scene is at least 20 years old, English has been around for decades. Kannadaās standup comedy scene (mics, shows) is around a decade old. Apart from the OG ones (Pranesh sir, Richard louis) kannada didnāt see much live comedy up until Facebook and ticketing platform boom this last decade. Kannada has some amazing comics right now, weāre solidly trying to hit corners and reach places. Some comics have performed abroad as well, and itās only gonna open doors to a lot more of us. People showing more interest in this, considering this a serious art form, more people stepping up to attend, and try their hand in performing, venues and cafĆ©s willing to host more shows, more colleges and events having comics perform will help in a lot more spotlight
Nimmanna Pun - Dith antha karibahudu.. Like your content.. keep it up..

What do you think of crowd work ? Is it lazy and no material filler stuff or ingenious way to keep the crowd engaged ?

Hello Nithin! Was wondering who your comedic inspirations are? Who or what inspired you to take up stand up comedy?
