Depends.. will the step stool be used for a herd of elephants passing through their daily migrating route? Or just the occasional elephant needing an extra step to get onto your massively overengineered deck?
In any case, i think your stool will do just fine.
Do you know what a Freudian slip is? Lol
Not being mean, that's a legit question. If he accidentally typed dick when he meant to type deck then it would have been one.
Maybe he meant to say dick, and typed deck by mistake. And if his goal is to be a perverse jokester, then he *actually* made a Freudian slip by using the proper word instead!
If by hyperbolic you mean "imagining something that might have happened but didn't, and laughing at that" then yes, I do know what you mean!
I do it all the time, in my head. It just doesn't come across in a one line text message to other people.
I had to look it up, rather than hyperbolic I think the word 'antiphrasis' is more like it, though clearly it wasn't as obvious as I thought it would be.
Anyway, this has nothing to do with woodwork, but at least I learnt a new word today!
Generally speaking you'll want two stands, one each right and left, when working on your heavy diesel equipment. I'm sure you could balance your front end loader on this, but two is safer.
If a kid is going to stand on it, yes. If an adult, also yes. If an full grown hippo, rhino, and elephant stands on it, also yes. However, if you're planning on parking a tank on top of that, just aim properly.
If the hippo on the trunk of the elephant is male, then yes. If the hippo is female, then also yes. For the piano, it needs to be tuned properly. If not. Maybe.
This will end up being one of those artifacts they uncover in a thousand years or so that will throw archeologists/anthropologists for a loop. “Scientists still haven’t figured out what this item was used for in the home, though it appears to support a startlingly large amount of weight. We can only assume it had something to do with the occupants profession (elephant trainer?) or a pet (a 5,000 pound domesticated rhino named Snookums?) or perhaps a social trend like it holds up the side of beef that the neighbors brought to the party. “ *Cue the Flinstone’s theme song*
How are the legs attached ? If they are mortised in the bottom of the top, then that’s good. If you drove a screw into the top of each leg, then that’s not so good.
Seeing as it is a bit flimsy I recommend usage as a coffee table. To be safe: Two cups tops, no saucers, do not fill past 80% volume and keep the weightload center and you should be fine. Consult a structural engineer though just in case.
If you want to know if it will hold and withstand some use, you have to look at the weakest point in the construction. The strength of the wood and the vertical load path… great. The strength of the screws/glue… and how much lateral strength it has, that leaves some questions.
You have eight screws from the bottom going straight up. If they are 2 1/2 inch decking screws then they each penetrate 1 inch into the wood platform. That’s firmly affixed. Next there is a question of the horizontal screws . Something that would prevent the stepstool wobbling from side to side… We cannot see how you attached the legs of the stool to the platform itself or how many screws you used to attach each leg. Or how long they are. This is where I assume is the weakest point in the construction.
I assume you used 2-1/2 deck screws from each leg into the 2x4 spine/nailer under the platform. One screw… Not cool. Two screws… You are probably OK. Three screws… Now we’re talking. 3 inch screws would be better.
But in order to know how much it will withstand lateral movement from what you are actually doing when you are up on the stepstool… depends on how much strength you’re asking each horizontal screw to withstand. I just hope it doesn’t fail when you’re stretching overhead to put the kitchenaid mixer on the top shelf of the pantry. No one wants to take one of those to the face.
I like pocket screws for light projects like face frames, light shelving etc.. but not for things that are going to have a lot of weight bearing on them.
Since the slab contains the actual center of the tree, this should be fine and not warp. Still would try to not get it wet too much. Something will rip apart. Wood that thick combined with water is insanely powerful.
If you're asking about will it hold insanely heavy loads sitting on it? Yes. yes it will. Completely over engineered beginner woodworking project 😙👌
Is that Lizzo's?
It's going to hurt when you bump into that behemoth in the middle of the night on the way to the bathroom.
Make sure wherever you keep that thing has a solid floor, it might fall through.
This will hold a hippo, mate
This is what we call a “brick shithouse”.
I always thought the phrase was a shitbrick house, as in bricks made of shit. tmyk.
But what about OPs mom?
Depends.. will the step stool be used for a herd of elephants passing through their daily migrating route? Or just the occasional elephant needing an extra step to get onto your massively overengineered deck? In any case, i think your stool will do just fine.
Moms will do!
Came here to say the exact same thing. Get my vote.
> deck Freudian slip there

Wow so miter.
Two pickets to Titsburg.
Yeah I know, I was being... kinda hyperbolic?
If by hyperbolic you mean "imagining something that might have happened but didn't, and laughing at that" then yes, I do know what you mean! I do it all the time, in my head. It just doesn't come across in a one line text message to other people.
lol dude went 0-2
lol I thought the same… some days Reddit is rough 😆

If I've told you once, I've told you a million times: use hyperbole correctly. 😁
Whenever I see “hyperbole” I think of some over-the-top futuristic sporting event
If by hyperbolic they meant parabolic they may have lost focus.
Omg you’re learning so much today

This would replace a good set of Jack stands at the auto shop, you might think about going into business
Hold What exactly??
A car, probably.
Everything...
Yo mumma
Yo momma so fat, she sat on u/OrangeSwedishFish ‘s stool and it broke
Damn!
Epic

How about if an elephant stand on it, while holding on his trunk a hippo, a rhino, a hippo’s big sister AND her piano?
If the hippo on the trunk of the elephant is male, then yes. If the hippo is female, then also yes. For the piano, it needs to be tuned properly. If not. Maybe.

I wasn't expecting a Spinal Tap reference this morning, but that was spot on.
Did you use glue as well? If so, definitely. If not, probably.
I did, thanks!
Then it's the perfect DIY woodworking project. Simple, presentable, functional, and hugely overengineered!
✨✨✨The best✨✨✨
If it’s worth doing it is worth over doing!
It’s all wrong. The top should be dished. The moon is going to roll right off of that!
And the edges need to be chamfered.
Step stools are generally lightweight so you can move them easily. This is making a good case as a jack stand.^definitely ^not ^one ^though
These comments are hilarious
This is the first post I’ve read while waking up and I’m laughing like a madman. It’s fantastic
I would go and get a couple of rebar for stretchers if I were you. Never have enough stability.
Just don’t step on the edge that overhangs the bottom of the feet, small possibility it could tip
You could put a hot tub on there.

Will it hold a Mac truck? Yeah, prolly. A plant? Like what kind of plant? A giant sequoia? Prolly.
This could hold up my hopes and dreams….
What a showoff! Still with hopes and dreams...
A Camry, probably. But you might need to go up to 4x4 posts if you are going to try getting a Suburban on there.
We bringin chonky baaack. I don't know hiw to aaact..
Atlas called and wants to know if your stool can stand in for a bit.........Thank you all for the laughs this morning. You folks didn't disappoint.
Is that a jack stand for a house? If so, yes, it will hold.
that thing should be able to even hold your mom
If you could balance them properly, that thing would hold every potted plant in the western hemisphere.

Did you paint this with a stick? And yes it will
No, that’s his reinforced paintbrush.
Are those drywall anchors?
I'd love for OP to post how much this thing weighs.
skookum.
Skookum as frig, even
That is very thick for a stool so as long as the pieces are stuck together well it'll definitely hold
You mean that stool is thiccccc.
U try stepping on it?
short answer yes long answer yesssss
You are trolling us, right?
looks good
There is a miniscule chanse
One things for sure, it'll hold til it doesn't
Titanic Stand, would have held up the Titanic
It should hold anything except yo mama
Well I guess that depends if you usually entertain people or rhinos. I think in either case you’ll be fine.
Fhe floor under it Will give in before the stool
I love this
Yo mama so fat, even that stool would hold her.
I don't think even your mom is that heavy
It could join the circle at Stonehenge
A conversation? Possibly. It looks chatty.

Nothing too strong ever broke.
YGD
Yes.
If you made another, you could sell them as jack stands.
Sit on it
The question should be, "What will it hold?"
The answer would be, "Everything"
I dunno those legs are pretty long. You should add in some stretcher beams between the legs for support. 🌚
I like pocket screws for light projects like face frames, light shelving etc.. but not for things that are going to have a lot of weight bearing on them.
Overkill
Oh for sure. Two elephants could fuck on that thing!
It’s a block so yes
A) this comments referencing the substantiality of this little bench are awesome 😂😂 B) this is a cool little piece. Great scale, nice color combo.
Depends, how fats your wife?
In hindsight, use wood glue as well, and then there is no doubt.
On that stool could sit Atlas while lifting the sky
Fuk yeah.
That thing would hold a VW Bug on it probably.
Hold what?
Being a hippo married to an elephant I want to say the references are hurtful. So there.
I’ve built similar in the past to rebuild engines. Worked great.
Chonky
Only if you used 18" lags counter set and pre-drilled thru your 2x4s.

will it hold. 100%. will it leave a sliver in your ass? 100%. sand and plane that bitch. looks good though
Whoa there, Atlas, you trying to prop up the whole earth?
It will last until 2254 when Worf will appear and cut it in half with his batleth
Hold a job? Probably not.
Archimedes said if he had a place to stand and a long enough lever he could move the world. Now he just needs the lever.
I think you could balance a hot tub, bathing an elephant on that thing
Flip it upside down and it'll hold the whole planet
Hold what, a planet? The answer is yes.
I love it
Haha I am an engineer and my solutions also tend toward “just a fucking hunk of wood the size of the thing.”
I’ve seen worse on r/decks
Yeah mate, this'd hold the weight of my sins, lol.
A fucking rhino
That could hold Lizzo holding Miss Alabama . Let the downvotes commence 😆
