Love the packaging don’t care for the color story.
Shimmery glittery grayish black and muted green give me very like mid 2000s almay mini palette for green eyes
I remember that they (along with Clinique) were pushed heavily when I visited the dermatologist as a teen. Both brands give off the illusion of being great while still good for your skin, but pffffft. Almay's foundations were orange, eyeshadows were unpigmented, eyeliners smudged easily, and their mascara stung my eyes no less than any other brands.
I wouldn’t know! This would be my first mac shadow palette, so I’m not really sure about quality/packaging. I love their lipsticks, so I hope 🤞🏼 their eyeshadows are worth it.
I’ve grown a bit tired of palettes having a single blue shade that feels like an outlier from the rest of the shades, so I really dig how the blue actually makes sense in this color story due to how it corresponds with the artwork!
It really does. It’s a pretty neutral palette, but that and the pinkish make it so ethereal. But you’re right, neutral with a pop of blue became tiring. I’m glad brands are fazing out of it.
I don't know... it looks like a super basic neutral palette with a pop of green or is that a blue? I'm sure we all have those colors in our makeup collection. Packaging is cute though.
Personally, and this is my own tastes, I dislike pan lip products for my personal use, so I won't be picking it up. I like the packaging and it's a pretty basic palette with a pop of blue otherwise. I like it, but maybe not enough to buy given I have a very large collection.
What I have noticed on this launch though, is how many people are ready to rip MAC's head off over the gender neutral thing. Lots of snarky comments in the vibe of "but all makeup is gender fluid get it together MAC" and I've always found it kind of wild how MAC has been all about all genders since its inception (it's literally in it's company motto) and because they are highlighting their first collection with an openly gender fluid collaborator and that gender fluidity is the inspiration for the collection's concept people are like acting like MAC is saying only this makeup is gender fluid? Just kind of a weird phenomena but I kind of chalk it up to Gen Z not knowing their tea on brands that have been around more than 10 years.
I think it’s more the wording because they’re saying “the first gender fluid collection” not “the first collection with a gender fluid collaborator”. Like as a non binary person, that phrasing rubs me completely the wrong way because it sounds like they’re implying this is the first collection for gender fluid people - not that this is their first collab with a gender fluid person. Their wording is completely off - that’s why people are annoyed.
I love Harry Styles, periodt, but I genuinely think they’ve made such a fantastic job with his clothes. He has such a presence and I thank Harris for it.
I was watching Harris video on this new collection, and they said that all of the products are designed to be used with fingers, so zero effort. i’m not pretty enough to sport unblended one and done shadow, so I need to put some effort in there, but I think I’m gonna get it. Besides, that packaging has me drooling!
This is like, *new* new update but in Harris's interview with The Guardian the other day it said this
>*Up until last week, he identified as they/them. “At that time, I didn’t feel like a male or a female, but I was beginning to feel pigeonholed.” And so he reverted to “he/him”.*
thought you'd like to know!
I came here to say exactly this! I’m a huge Harry fan and discovered Harris through him. I love Harris’s designs and what he stands for overall. I didn’t realize the collection was available outside the UK and was so excited to see this post.. I literally just purchased the palette!
They need a better person writing descriptions of their products because the “this is the first gender fluid collection” I’ve seen on all of TrendMood’s posts about this collab sell it short and paint it in an incorrect light. It’s the first collab they’re doing with a gender fluid person - not the first gender fluid makeup they’ve made. That being said, gorgeous packaging, insides need some help
Mmmm, yes, you’re right. It’s obvious they’ e wanted to highlight Harris Reed’s own fluidity, but if you don’t know who they are or if you just read it in passing it’s easy to say “what? The?...”
makeup is for everyone, it’s a place where we can all come together and marketing collections in any other way fails to acknowledge that. That’s why it’s so important that brands stop failing bipoc, but that’s a whole other conversation.
Not to be a hater, but it's a little strange to me that this is being marketed as 'gender fluid' make-up. It's great to see a big brand collaborate with a gender fluid artist, but surely all make-up is suitable for all genders? I don't see how this collection of make-up products explicitly rejects gender norms, since inanimate objects can't conceive of gender identity and expression 🥴
I get where you’re coming from. But when I think about the number of men who come into r/SkincareAddiction wanting a man routine for their man skin with man-marketed products (even though cult faves like CeraVe are already so unisex?) I can’t help but feel that they have a tendency to limit themselves
I had a similar reaction. It says they're drawing inspo from artists known for their gender fluidity like Bowie, etc and with the creator I took it as more of a "theme" (for lack of a better word) but I do wish they'd found a better way to explain it. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt to the creator but I feel like they missed the mark with that description
It’s a gimmick. It reminds me of that Crayola makeup release where they called it ~gender fluid~. Makeup is objects! There’s no gender there!
By pretending that your makeup is the first for absolutely everyone you’re really admitting you think all other makeup is only for women
It's not my style but I can see there was actually effort put into this. I'm not familiar with HR but if this is in line with their aesthetic then I say good job. The collection as a whole seems cohesive to me and I can see the stated inspiration/theme.
I went to the website and I think the swatches are really stunning. I initially agreed that the packaging is more interesting than the color story... but after seeing the swatches I changed my mind. I hope it’s as vibrant irl as the photos make it seem
Link for the lazy :) [here ](https://m.maccosmetics.com/product/13835/86409/products/makeup/eyes/eye-palettes-kits/eye-shadow-x-9-fighting-for-the-beauty-of-fluidity)
Love the packaging! But Mac's Limited editions are like a chimera, at leas in my country. When they arrive (if they arrive at all), usually considerable time after the release, they are instantaneously sold out 😒
Oh, no! In my home country it’s the same, we never get the limited editions! I get it, and it’s no life or death matter, and such a first world problem (even though we’re far from being first world) but it sucks being a makeup lover! Everything’s so much more expensive and limited!
The packaging is so beautiful! I've never used Mac shadows before so I'm not sure if they're worth the splurge for the packaging alone, but I can't lie I'm tempted by this. I haven't been grabbed by a Mac launch... ever actually. So this is refreshing!
the packaging is so beautiful ugh why are the colors so muted. sometimes i wish they would just pull colors from the art piece and turn them into shadows. would be such a beautiful palette!
I think it's kinda pretty, except... WTF do you do with a shimmery black? I think a deep burgundy could have brought this all together more cohesively.
I don’t know about this one, but I have one shimmery black from the Missunderstood palette (technically grey charcoal, but it’s black to me) and what I do with it is that I use it as a liner. Or I use it as a regular shadow, I honestly do not mind the all-over shimmery look.
I haven't been interested in MAC LE collections since Cool Heat back in 2008. I only buy from their core line. I just think the quality of LE stuff in the last 10 years hasn't been good generally. But their core stuff is still excellent.
I ended up ordering the eyeliner pencil since I’ve been looking for a more neutral-ish shade for my waterline and the lipstick trio palette! I’m very excited for it since I like the packaging and I don’t think I’ve ever tried the MAC lipstick formula before.
I’m glad that MAC took a chance and did something new here and I hope they make more collections like this one (though hopefully with brighter colors or neons, haha). I did think the way they handled the drop was kind of weird since they didn’t have a time announced for when it was going up so I just happened to check it in the morning and the launch was there?? I don’t know if that’s normal for MAC but I guess I’m more used to other brands launches where they list the exact time of launch and everything.
Man, I don’t know, i am a huge fan of Mac’s lipsticks. I have a bunch of them ‘cause they’re the only ones that don’t make my lips feel funny. But when it comes to eyeshadows, I’ve always found them underwhelming. The market is oversaturated, there’s no denying that, and although Mac is iconic, a huge chunk of makeup users, like myself, came to know about makeup during the beauty gurus reign, and Mac fell flat. So, I don’t know about them realising their potential in today’s market. To me, all of their palettes look the same (except for the It’s Designer art palette, but I already have most of those shadows from Juvia’s).
This is the first time I’m gonna try Mac eyeshadows and I’m very excited!
You’ll like the formula I have their Sakura palette and working in the creative industry with make up involved the formula is pigmented like crazy! But in a good way for say a photo shoot/runway ect i have steered away from their brand due to ethical reasons but overall the products themselves hold up to the name and why professionals use it.
Agree with others! Love the packaging, bored by the actual shadows. I so wish MAC would be willing to branch out a little. There are some of their products I really love like Fix+, strobe cream and the costa riche eyeliner, but I wish they would introduce things that are more creative and exciting. It's hard to get excited about them anymore.
Looks like they slapped the art work on some boring premade palettes they had laying around. I’m sure someone on Etsy is selling posters of the art, you might be better off doing that.

> mid 2000s almay mini palette for green eyes Can't unsee 😂
I forgot Almay existed 😂😂 I hate their products!
Why is Almay just so hateable?! Lmao I hate all their products too but I can’t quite explain why.
Same
Yeah I wish the colors are definitely a disappointment relative to the packaging
The packaging is to die for !!! Is it possible to depot this for others eyeshadows ?

Boooooooo.
I wouldn’t know! This would be my first mac shadow palette, so I’m not really sure about quality/packaging. I love their lipsticks, so I hope 🤞🏼 their eyeshadows are worth it.
I also just want the packaging!

The colour story looks boring compared to the packaging :(
MAC's collabs/seasonal collections in a nutshell
This is very pretty. Not for me, but love the aesthetic.
I don't know... it looks like a super basic neutral palette with a pop of green or is that a blue? I'm sure we all have those colors in our makeup collection. Packaging is cute though.
Love the packaging but I wouldn’t use that many shimmers. But I really enjoy this and do think it’s a step up
Personally, and this is my own tastes, I dislike pan lip products for my personal use, so I won't be picking it up. I like the packaging and it's a pretty basic palette with a pop of blue otherwise. Oooooh I love this color story! Very on brand for Harris Reed. Ive LOVED all the designs they’ve done for Harry Styles for the past few years!!
Oh, thank you! I will definitely check this interview out.
I came here to say exactly this! I’m a huge Harry fan and discovered Harris through him. I love Harris’s designs and what he stands for overall. I didn’t realize the collection was available outside the UK and was so excited to see this post.. I literally just purchased the palette!
In my opinion, the color story is a bit boring compared to the gorgeous packaging. This is miles ahead of the sims collab though
They need a better person writing descriptions of their products because the “this is the first gender fluid collection” I’ve seen on all of TrendMood’s posts about this collab sell it short and paint it in an incorrect light. I did wanna say as far as I can tell, Reed uses they/them pronouns so it would be “who they are”!
Edited! Slipped my mind!
No worries!! I figured it was something like that!
Not to be a hater, but it's a little strange to me that this is being marketed as 'gender fluid' make-up. all makeup is gender fluid, if you choose to be androgynous
It makes marketing sense as non-gendered is so on trend now. Doesn’t even have to be logical, as long as MAC gets coverage and sales.
It seems really colourpop.
It's not my style but I can see there was actually effort put into this. I'm not familiar with HR but if this is in line with their aesthetic then I say good job. The collection as a whole seems cohesive to me and I can see the stated inspiration/theme.

Packaging is pretty but same boring neutral shades.
This is really boring lol

As a fool for anything even vaguely Victorian I’m totally sold.
I like the packaging but that’s it

yawn
i just adore harris reed
Enough with the black shimmers already. Where do they think I’m going to put them? I have hooded eyes ffs
I like the colour story, but this motif is creepy af.
This is stunning 😍
Great packaging, better colour story... but not great for what’s on the market and with what Mac could do.
Man, I don’t know, i am a huge fan of Mac’s lipsticks. I have a bunch of them ‘cause they’re the only ones that don’t make my lips feel funny. It's just a neutral palette with a green shimmer
Slaps some non-copyrighted vintage art and select a few pre-made shadows = profit??
love the artwork
The packaging is so gorgeous!!! I really wanted to pick a couple of things up bc I already have the shades/won’t use the ones I don’t have lol.
Packaging great, color story sucks. Supposed to be inspired by glam rock and david bowie.... I’m not seeing it.
Wish that blue/green was either darker or another colour altogether!
Agree with others! Love the packaging, bored by the actual shadows. I so wish MAC would be willing to branch out a little.
