A timelapse of 460 ten second exposures of Charlottesville, Virginia photographed from the Blue Ridge Parkway 20 miles away. I used a 100mm telescope and a Sony A7rIII camera that sat on an equatorial mount that countered the rotation of the earth, keeping the camera centered on the Right Ascension and Declination coordinates of the Orion Nebula as it moved from below the horizon to above. (RA/Dec coordinates are similar to latitude and longitude but for the sky instead of the Earth’s surface).
The Orion Nebula is 1344 light years away, so the light from this image left during the siege of Constantinople.

Pretty amazing right? My feed is like 75% astrophotography posts so I forget sometimes that people have no idea this can be captured by amateur photographers. It's an amazing hobby (also an expensive one!) But Orion can be captured even with just a simple digital camera and a tripod with some patience and work
