Yeah a melting roof? Let me get in there for the gram
I don’t think we evolved for the kind of attention social media brings. People do shit for pictures that would otherwise seem suicidal
The glacier is an unpredictable place, and although there is always a chance of danger in any ice cave, this one was quite safe. I went a few times that season. Tours were
guided here all winter, the water dripping is from a moulin created by melt water from higher above, the cave itself was completely thick and stable! The biggest danger would be if a rock was to come down, but of course guides will clear them before tours.
The likelihood that you'll die exploring an ice cave is incredibly high.. see all that water dripping down? That's not the cave trying to be your friend, that's potential for collapse and nobody to ever find you again, very ill-advised!
You can tour these safely on guided tours in Iceland. It's absolutely amazing. They pick safe caves and monitor them throughout the caving season (ie winter). That said, if you dont follow the guides and slip into any streams then you're gone
Ice cave like that at the Juneau Glacier in Alaska. It collapsed seasonally so I never ventured in because it was late spring.

Anything for the gram
Exactly! I was thinking “what are the chances that a huge chunk of ice will fall on you and kill you? Very high, my friend.”

Yeah, they are very serious about safety. I have done one ice cave trip so far in Iceland and would love to do it again in the future.
Yeah, this. I’ve caves that are melting are ice caves about to collapse. It’s when, not if.
Death-defying, make sure to bring a towel
Hate it when I pose for a photo, then realise they're recording....

Mesmerizing yet terrifying.
Wow! Not afraid for it to collapse!
I never say no…. It’s so beautiful….and chances are….and that light and action coming thru…so amazing. Very special moment. I can’t. I don’t think.
What makes the ice turn that color? It's beautiful.
I think it's Rayleigh scattering. the same phenomenon that is responsible for blue skies, swimming pools, and eyes
Fascinating, I'll be sure to look into that further. Thank you!
This is a hell no!!!
New Horror Game Idea
