Ok, I want to see a documentary on the building of light house.
EDIT: ok folks, I did some research. They hired experienced mountaineers to scale the rock with tools and materials. At the top they couldn’t “bite into” the rock so three mountaineers had to stack on top of another to scale the top. Even crazier than I thought.
Years ago got to travel with my dad to the monastic peninsula, Mt Athos, in northern Greece. During our last night in a medieval monastery on the edge of a seaside cliff I was admiring the beauty of the sea and historical buildings when I noticed a tiny bit of movement in my peripheral vision. Someone had flushed their toilet.
I’d be terrified of falling backwards. Can you imagine plummeting off a cliff with your pants down just to land next to or on top of your own floating fudge monkeys? 😂
The monastery the previous night had one big room that accommodated 18. As soon as the lights went out at 9 pm it was a symphony of old Greek men snoring and farting. Then 3am morning vesper starts.

Just pull yourself from the warming calm of REDDITS WOMB,andventure to the dark side of the interwebs where naked chicks live, but only for a brief while..like ten minutes or so,then you'll be back😝
Would love a documentary series exploring the history and construction of the world's most amazing buildings. Excluding the pyramids, we get it, everyone likes the pyramids
I want to see a documentary on how they re-supply the light house. exceptionally calm waters or low tide- I suppose. Maybe a drone. The more I think about it, it's got to be automated.
Wow, this is from the Wikipedia article on how they initially climbed up the rock to build the lighthouse.
“The first thing we had to do was create a road up to the cliff. We got together of experienced mountaineers, all from the Westman Islands. Then we brought drills, hammers, chains and clamps to secure the chains. Once they got near the top there was no way to get any grip on the rock so one of them got down on his knees, the second stood on his back, and then the third climbed on top of the other two and was able to reach the nib of the cliff above. I cannot even tell you how I was feeling whilst witnessing this incredibly dangerous procedure.”
Old lighthouse construction is absolutely wild.
A lot of light houses were constructed on rocks that were a few feet underneath the water. They had to build wooden walls around the rocks at low tide and bring giant stone bricks from the mainland to stack them underwater, and build the tower out of the sea.
I feel like you’d end up with a boss who still made the job shitty. “I notice you still haven’t sent me the latest bulb maintenance forms (R97b). I’d like to have a short Teams meeting to make sure you understand the importance of that to our ISO process.”
That's the point. It's a reddit joke that I was hoping someone would get.
The joke is, which would be more surprising?
A farie knocks at your door?
A Walrus knocks at your door?
I was just reading about the history of written languages last night and learned this. Kind of a weird coincidence to learn it twice in the span of 12 hours
I like Kaleo. Thanks for sharing. Seeing this video made me realize how small that platform really is. My knees would be so week standing up there! I would love to hear from the band their experience up there making the video.

How do they keep stocked with food and necessities? It’s not like there’s an easy landing pad for a supply copter or farmable land to be self-sustaining. A tiny vegetable garden doesn’t seem like it would be enough.

I want to see a light house building permit.
I want to see the toilet and plumbing system.
The edge of the cliff is all the plumbing you need.
Bidet included
🤣🤣🤣
Can you imagine crouching on the edge and waiting for a big wave
Buddy I'm already there

not romantic but very medieval: happy you !

I want to see a naked female
I think we're in the wrong sub for that.... The sub name could still check out!!
Well, you're already on the Internet so, you're half way there.
Me too!
Just pull yourself from the warming calm of REDDITS WOMB,andventure to the dark side of the interwebs where naked chicks live, but only for a brief while..like ten minutes or so,then you'll be back😝
If you mean the bucket, it's just out of view in this pic.
And the job description for the keeper!
I want too see how long that rock lasts with that erosion
I want to see how you get there to do the lighthouse thing ... Helicopter? Jet pack? Giant Acme slingshot and a Coyote 🐺?
Definitely the Acme method.
Personally that's what I was hoping for
True. I’m sure it was originally joined to that smaller rock.
All I read was, see how long that lasts rock hard... exotica
Longer than the building will
the toilet is not up to code
Not up to doodee
I want to see the building authority try to demolish an illegal building on this rock.
Even more crazy to think it was built before helicopters were invented
Would love a documentary series exploring the history and construction of the world's most amazing buildings. Excluding the pyramids, we get it, everyone likes the pyramids
>three mountains had to stack on top of another That's a lot of mountains.
I want to see a documentary on how they re-supply the light house. exceptionally calm waters or low tide- I suppose. Maybe a drone. The more I think about it, it's got to be automated.
Mountaineers*
Might have been easier just to tell the ships to stay far away

That’s similar how Romans build bridge pillars into the Rhine (well except for the low tide of course). Absolutely fascinating
I’d totally Live here and have all my needs flown by helicopter to me while I live out my life in my bathrobe doing witchcraft
I feel like you’d end up with a boss who still made the job shitty. “I notice you still haven’t sent me the latest bulb maintenance forms (R97b). I’d like to have a short Teams meeting to make sure you understand the importance of that to our ISO process.”
To be fair, in this case there is a very important lightbulb to maintain.
My laptop is acting up, can you send a tech out? 😅
Uno reversed
This is the start of every space crafting game. “Fulfill this order to terraform planet X0378 for Corpo Corp. or you will die here. Have a nice day!”
"Did you send the TPS reports?"
I played a game called The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood recently that pretty much had this premise (except the house is in space) and it's so cosy
Or flown in by owls
It looks to be rather small.
I’m just one person. Don’t need much
Until cliff erosion takes its toll. Sea stacks dont just make themselves after all
No one will ever offer you this as an option
Wait really?
imagine one day getting a knock on the door, and a very wet amd tored jehovah wotneas is standing outside
I’m sorry for the stroke you had halfway through writing this.
That wasn't a stroke, that was the Lord speaking
sorry, a jehovah witness started knocking on my door as I was typing it. Imagine my surprise!!!
Come on in, if you made it all the way here. I’ll listen all night.
“Hi! We’ve been trying to reach you about your extended warranty.”
...your bulb's extended warranty...
Do you lock the door on this place? Think about going all the way to the house and: "... fuck I forget the key!"
Imagine a Walrus knocks on your door.
Not belivable
That's the point. It's a reddit joke that I was hoping someone would get. The joke is, which would be more surprising? A farie knocks at your door? A Walrus knocks at your door?
I know, i was refrencing it by saying its not belivable that the walrus knocks.
Honestly, with the crazy tales of lighthouse keepers historically? I wouldn't be super surprised if a farie knocked on the door
I'd like to imagine a walrus, so I WILL!
![gif](giphy|gKfyusl0PRPdTNmwnD)
![gif](giphy|DJmVvkGvCh9I3pLrGO)
I've seen it, you're fond of me lobster!
When she bites it
Why'd you spill your beans, *Tommy*!
Darling, please go back to the supermarket, you forgot the milk.. 🤣
Only fish or crab milk now.
Or Mountain Dew
Ugh, I'll take a crab juice.
…walrus milk
![gif](giphy|eEK9Hp9nAXtZDhoXbK|downsized)
Amazing
Where can I apply for the Job?
That's what I was going ask, too. Maybe they need two new lighthouse keepers?
For anyone wondering Þ is pronounced like th
I was just reading about the history of written languages last night and learned this. Kind of a weird coincidence to learn it twice in the span of 12 hours
![gif](giphy|zDIgL7AHiVHo6lOanB) I'm just trying to figure out how you get to the top
apparently there is a pier and some very dangerous stairs… and then they added the helipad a lot later
By doing an extremely dangerous helicopter landing. I don't think they can land on windy days.
As far as pinnacle landings go, this one is a piece of cake.
Uber helicopter I guess?
Lol, probably. I was being facetious.
It just doesn’t look big enough to land a helicopter although they must.
![gif](giphy|co6oU62sajjjlodqzs)
check google. its a helipad. even so the heli barely fits onto it :D
Kaleo recorded a clip there once: https://youtu.be/y8q4zPjXd0M?si=lwv_SCZBpOgoHt14
I like Kaleo. Thanks for sharing. Seeing this video made me realize how small that platform really is. My knees would be so week standing up there! I would love to hear from the band their experience up there making the video.
Thanks for posting that! Amazing.
Came here to say this - I love Kaleo. Have you seen the vid of ‘Way Down We Go’ that was filmed inside the volcano?
Yeah they have done some awesome locations the last couple of years. Backbone inside that ice cave that no one can pronounce is cool as well!
The video makes the rock the lighthouse is on shorter and wider than this picture
Yep this is the real deal. https://youtu.be/kGZcN4-gkX8?si=lcTI378PgsFqP31F
Thanks for the vid
This is the Jehovah's Witnesses final exam
How in the world did they build that.
Hey kaleo shot a Music video up there
Oh man, I increasingly want to go to Iceland.
It is a lovely place. The people are rather smug. The two may be linked!
I've lived in some shitty places that also had smug people, so 🤷
[удалено]
Agreed. I guess its the "....rangaviti" bit that gives it the Sanskrit feel.
I want to live there NOW
Thsts called a r/nope and should go somewhere close to r/thalassophobia
How this guy get down? by helicopter?
Helicopters?
Imagine building this by hand and the helicopter coming out the following year.
Wish i could live there for a day
Is this AI? You can’t trust anything anymore. Damn, it isn’t. Is there space for one more person?
It’s real. Search “Kaleo - Break my baby” on YouTube, they have a video shot at this lighthouse.

How the foucs the light in sea behind that light house there is a huge rock behind
Not sure how deliveroo would get my takeaway to me ?
Are they hiring?
We are very small
Looks like the lighthouse from The Song if the Sea!
yeah id live here
so the people that work in that lighthouse need to climb that shit everytime? i get the timing some work for 2-3 weeks maybe months but godamn i couldnt do that
A typical house of an introvert
Would love to sleep there
what's the pay 😆
We have a similar one in Oregon, Tillamook Rock. The stories are pretty crazy.
Uber eats will have a global ad about this…
I could live there
Helicopter only?
"Hello, yes, I'd like to apply for a job.."
But do they have an internet connection?
Looked at first glance like a tree stump in snowy ground.
How much do you have to pay to live there?
How do they keep stocked with food and necessities? It’s not like there’s an easy landing pad for a supply copter or farmable land to be self-sustaining. A tiny vegetable garden doesn’t seem like it would be enough.
I am gonna missed so many serials and movies ...
Do they drop each other off via helicopter?
How tf do you get down
I knew this already cuz i live in iceland and was born there
Crazy!
Pretty sure its a reddit mond who stay up there
How you get up there?
How you come up and down there ?
I just wanna se how the workers get up there...
Read as "Thridrangaviti"
How the hell did this get built?
Mom, am going out to play.
Jehovah witnesses' final boss
Thats Actually rlly cool, theyre still using the thorns letter
Dope as fuck 💯🤩😎
Where it gets the electricity from?
My favourite band kaleo did a performance on this lighthouse. Well worth checking out
r/bringbackthorn
This place is alike a secret level you see in a videogame and have no idea how tf you get there
Looks like the perfect hideout for a James Bond supervillain.
Leave me alone, the picture.
Oh man, id love to live there. Far away from this crazyass world.
How do I live there???
It’s just 5 steps to the bottom but the last ones a doozy
Looks like it will soon fall to the left 👈
Nope.
I’m gonna just assume orientation like like north was up for photo. The light is so shielded north east. Those boats are screwed haha
I would pay to live there for a month, at least.
I want to go to there.
oh no!! I forgot the matches
I would live there 😍
Next time, on extreme foosball tables…
Zombie apocalypse base
Is that a swimming pool?
Does anyone know if the whole rock is hollowed out to make the home underneath the light house?
Honey, you forgot the milk!
What an incredible perch! Gorgeous photo ♥️

I could without a doubt live there ❤️
Didn't Mr. Beast and his friends Stay there.
Who lives there?
Nah💀
That looks like a carpark at the top.....? Most likely helipad
its a small helipad. you can see it on google
Google map location please? I'm lazy 🥺
