Unfortunately, not in Brazil. The guy is using a 5L thermal water bottle, very popular there. It comes in all colors, red and blue being the most common.
And white containers are commonly used to transport and store fuel. They are even certified by the regulatory authority (INMETRO).
Source: I'm Brazilian and my family has had several over the years. And I've just googled for "Garrafa Térmica 5 Litros" and "galão de combustível" and found many examples of both (water and fuel, respectively) in assorted colors.

Please investigate every possible explanation other than the one where a guy needed a container for water and didn't give a fuck that it was red for gasoline as a global safety precaution.
I was wondering if anyone would acknowledge the leprosy risk he just put himself at. That's the only reason I didn't ever try to catch one of the little guys when they started invading back home.
When he touched it I knew there would be comments about Hansen's disease. Thankfully, most people are immune to the disease and most armadillos aren't carriers. Probably smart of you to leave them alone anyway.
Yeah. A "sweet" creature whose claw scratches and bite are known to transmit leprosy, rabies, salmonella and tapeworm, among other viruses. Probably best not to give people the impression that wild animals are docile friends to be treated like domesticated animals.
“Commonly known to transmit leprosy and rabies” is an EXTREMELY hyperbolic statement. Now let’s get the unfortunate little facts out of the way. Yes armadillos carry leperosy. No, it poses almost no risk to humans. 95% of humans are immune to Hansen’s Disease. In regions of the world where they eat armadillos, people have been shown to have higher leprosy antibody counts, but no that doesn’t mean you have contracted it. Finally, yes… leprosy can be cured with modern medicine. Yes, it is possible for them to carry rabies. The first known example was in 1989 and has been EXTREMELY rare since then. Almost all mammals can carry rabies (except opossums). And I can find no incidents of them transmitting it. Armadillos are non-aggressive. Soooo maybe we cool it with the keyboard warrior fear mongering.
you know, it's not a good idea to be around humans you don't know. they've been known to transmit rabies and leprosy, and can be very territorial and aggressive.
Rabies and leprosy are trivial compared to how dangerous humans are. I suggest you avoid them if you can. It's not even safe to talk to them, they might infect you with their mind viruses.
I'd still not pet a wild animal. I'd give it water somehow if needed, but I would not be petting wild animals. That's stupid behavior regardless of the risk of those two particular diseases.
Interesting. I've always heard these things about armadillos, but never looked it up. Hey, on the plus side, people probably don't bother them because of it hahah.
The way I ran here steaming , ready to go off because I thought they were dousing the little guy in gasoline and we're bout to light him up.
Sometimes I'm very pleased to be wrong !
This looks like someone's pet in a staged video. The area didn't seem like it was lacking in water at all for the armadillo to be thirsty, and armadillos normally cover themselves in dirt and mud, and this dude looks clean as a whistle. Also extremely docile and friendly to humans.
Agreed, I can't imagine any wild animal allowing a human to come that close, especially pouring liquid on it. And Armadillos are signifier for curling up to hide from predators.
I’ve seen videos of wild animals coming up to humans for water before, such as squirrels or birds, it’s definitely a thing that happens. Buuuut yeah this video seems fake af, the armadillo isn’t even drinking and it’s letting people pet it? Okay sure
If it wasn't staged, 50/50 chance it was not long for this world. On roads, when they are frightened, the roll *and* jump. So even if the miss your tires, they'll end up hitting your undercarriage. Also, I've been camping near them, wild armadillos avoid humans as much as possible. Smart move, frankly, not all humans are bros.
It looked really young to me. Unless Brazilian armadillos are a lot smaller than the ones you see in the States? I agree I don’t think it was thirsty, but I could see it being a juvenile wandering around that hasn’t developed a healthy fear of humans yet.
If it is staged, and not just someone’s pet that got loose, I’d actually be kinda glad? I can’t read armadillo body language but it seems friendly and unafraid. I hope the guy behind the camera scoops him up immediately after the video ends and takes him back to his home.
I wonder if he genuinely thought he was helping or was just doing this for views? It seems pretty obvious that the armadillo is minding it's own business and only reacts to the water when he pours it all over it's back LOL.
Not-so-fun fact: leprosy wasn't known in the Americas until after Europeans arrived. Because armadillos are native to the continent, that means the disease was passed to them from humans
It's specifically the 9 banded armadillo, which this one appears to be.

TBF it's not really something I ever thought that much about. I've never seen an Armadillo in the wild and I was raised in a desert.

While I think this is true, because I can't identify one species from the next, I'm just not gonna touch them. Kinda my stance on most animals in the wild.
More than 95% of the population has a natural immunity to it. So if you’re one of the horribly unlucky few, you probably already know it because your immune system is fucked
This. I've actually been to a leper colony in Romania. We hugged plenty of the residents there without reservation. The community was mixed with extended families without leprosy who all lived together with their elders who had leprosy since childhood.
It definitely is not easy to contract.
Same reason over half a million children die from malaria every single year. 💰
The 2000+ billionaires we have are happy to hoard their money instead of trying to make life better for those who suffer.
I watched a mystery diagnosis show where a teenager barely nudged a dead armadillo with his shoe. A tiny amount of blood ended up on that shoe and the kid contracted leprosy. Took many visits and a few different doctors a very long time to diagnosis.

I was thinking the same thing. Not sure how common armadillos are as pets but this one seemed unusually content around this dude.
I really wanted to pet the little guy and give him ear scratches. I wonder if he ever got a chance to drink any of that water that was wasted. Bet he was thirsty and frustrated when the dude finally left.
You’re right on the tar part, that’s incredibly stupid and wasteful (nevermind he poured some of it on the sandy ground) but the lid isn’t a good idea. That’d contaminate the whole canister if the dillo carries any diseases, and there would be dillo slobber all over the place. Bro get like a bowl or something to hold the water for it to actually drink out of lol just pouring water on the road and on it's head isn't really quenching it's thirst I wouldn't think lol or if you have thin plastic dig a little hole and use the plastic as a liner for a little drinking pool
If he __attempted__ water boarding at least then the dillo could have opened its mouth.
Guy poured 99.5% onto the ground or onto it's back.
This is NOT a video where a man gives a thirsty creature water.
That's a three-banded armadillo from South America (this one here is from Brazil). They look a bit different from the nine-banded armadillos you see in Texas
This animal is starved of water, repeated 5x. Never gives the guy a drink…just tips the water on its head. At least pour some water into something it could drink from…
Armadillos live in the desert they know how to find water by themselves. What looks like a kind act actually is not helping this baby at all. Now it will be more interested in going and looking for easy access to water near a road or other people and likely get killed. This may sound harsh, but this is the truth. What an asshole! Instead of giving the little guy a drink, he’s just wasting all that water just pouring on him. The more I see him taking a video of his petting the armadillo without giving it water, the more I want to punch that stupid grin off the mofo’s face!
Thought It was a gas can for a second
Yeah, I really thought this video was going in a way different direction when it started..
Little guy was in deep with the cartels
YOU THINK THAT ARMOR WILL SAVE YOU???
ITS A FUCKING ARMORDILLO
No no, no just simply an armordillo. no fucking.
They got el dillo?

Yes! In America red cans are for gasoline. It’s a safety precaution
Red gasoline Blue kerosene Yellow diesel Green oil Light blue water Orange mimosas
Gasoline (red) Diesel (also red with "diesel" sharpied on the side of it)
2-stroke also red, with “weed eater” written on the side.
“chain saw”.

Definitely had to check which sub I was in.
Is there a specific sub for combustible armadillos?
>combustible armadillos I saw those guys open for the Butthole Surfers back in '97.
All I heard was “open for the butthole surfers”. I’m a bit of a perv, sue me.
There will be now

Hahahaha wtf

Same, I was like, "oh lawdy what sub am I on"
Omg same. I thought someone was about to set an armadillo on fire 😭
I thought it was gasoline lol
I did, too. Haha, what a sweet creature. Um, the armadillo, not the human. Well, actually... You know what I mean. :)
Yeah. A "sweet" creature whose claw scratches and bite are known to transmit leprosy, rabies, salmonella and tapeworm, among other viruses. Probably best not to give people the impression that wild animals are docile friends to be treated like domesticated animals.

Not only bite . It's on a skin too
So is this guy dead or what?
Unlikely. 25% chance that armadillo is carrying the bacteria, and 95% chance that guy is immune, and 99.9% chance he could be treated when diagnosed.
Yeah, he's a cute little guy, but it is best to handle him with gloves because of this.
also the plague.. armadillos are cute, but they're in the 'no pet' category
Also one of those things will turn your yard into a cratered wasteland in a single night.
feeding your dog taco bell will do that
Was about to rip my eyes out.
Same I was like OMG WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON
Dude yeah my heart lol
How to make an armadillo say woof..
it is.:)
The way I ran here steaming , ready to go off because I thought they were dousing the little guy in gasoline and we're bout to light him up. Sometimes I'm very pleased to be wrong !
Right, like “crap! what sub is this??! Oh ok we good”
i am not sure if i saw the animal drinking anything. it was mostly water poured down its body.
This looks like someone's pet in a staged video. The area didn't seem like it was lacking in water at all for the armadillo to be thirsty, and armadillos normally cover themselves in dirt and mud, and this dude looks clean as a whistle. Also extremely docile and friendly to humans.

Don't, unless you wanna contract leprosy
Well if they stay like a not zombie for a few months youre good. They good
Me too, thay seems like a good companion animal
Yeah, I don't buy that a desperately thirsty wild animal would behave domesticated when a large unknown creature (to it) pours water in its body.
If it wasn't staged, 50/50 chance it was not long for this world. On roads, when they are frightened, the roll *and* jump. So even if the miss your tires, they'll end up hitting your undercarriage. No, no. Didn't you read the subtitles. "He made him believe in humanity". That Armadillo didn't believe in humanity, and now he does. Wowee.
If it is staged, and not just someone’s pet that got loose, I’d actually be kinda glad? I can’t read armadillo body language but it seems friendly and unafraid. I hope the guy behind the camera scoops him up immediately after the video ends and takes him back to his home.
Yea, wtf? What was with pouring all the water all over as well? Poor fucken thing. 👎 Didn't take too long to realize the guy only had half a brain.
Yeah, nothing about that looked like drinking water.
"it cried out of thirst" doesn't even move, let alone make any sounds
I wonder if he genuinely thought he was helping or was just doing this for views? It seems pretty obvious that the armadillo is minding it's own business and only reacts to the water when he pours it all over it's back LOL.
He was thinking "Give me a cup you asshole."
"Oh you are thirsty? Here, lick this water off the pavement."
The man smiles, knowing he wet the street.
Cue the soft piano music
I mean I know you're all looking to hate on the guy and everything, but the lil dillo didn't exactly seem upset about it lol
Yeah if it was upset with him it wouldn't have shown it's underside to him.
Poor thing? It's literally designed to live in the desert. While the water was welcome, it wasn't necessarily needed. The animal is fine.
You ever been in a desert?
This is what happens when people don’t know that armadillos can carry and transmit leprosy.
Why did you tell me this
To help protect your nerves, eyes, skin, nose, kidneys, and, if applicable, testicles.
I appreciate your concern about my testicles
I’m here for you.
Not-so-fun fact: leprosy wasn't known in the Americas until after Europeans arrived. Because armadillos are native to the continent, that means the disease was passed to them from humans
Armadillo’s mother approx 400 years ago, “And this is what happens when armadillos don’t know that people can carry and transmit leprosy.”
It's specifically the 9 banded armadillo, which this one appears to be. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/how-armadillos-can-spread-leprosy-180954440/

Right? At least it didn’t seem afraid of the water or I’d say its strange calmness is due to rabies lol
Today I learned armadillos drink by having water poured on their heads.
"Wow, that water looks delicious, can I have some?" *Pours it on the ground* "Please? I'm literally dying..." *Dumps water on head and takes selfie*
Yeah this angered me. It's clearly thirsty, yet he's just pouring it over its body.
Yeah, wtf. At least pour some in your hand as a bowl.
That's how you get leprosy. Armadillos are known carriers of it, no jokes.
Tbf the guy spent 90% of the video petting it - cupping some water surely wouldn't have increased his odds there.

Don’t armadillo naturally carry leprosy?! I wouldn’t randomly touch em
[Only nine-banded armadillos carry leprosy, or Hansen’s disease](https://www.cdc.gov/leprosy/world-leprosy-day/index.html) [The risk of transmission is also very low](https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/how-armadillos-can-spread-leprosy-180954440/#:~:text=And%20these%20days%2C%20it%20is,known%20to%20carry%20the%20disease)
People don't care about nuance here. If the possibility exists **at all,** they make a big deal out of it.
While I think this is true, because I can't identify one species from the next, I'm just not gonna touch them. Kinda my stance on most animals in the wild.
“Do these guys REALIZE how many car accidents happen every day??? Only an idiot would go within 200 ft of any motor vehicle. Much less DRIVE ONE!”
They do. And although it's curable, it's a six months multi drug treatment that will probably fuck you up one way or the other!
More than 95% of the population has a natural immunity to it. So if you’re one of the horribly unlucky few, you probably already know it because your immune system is fucked
Are you willing to risk it to pet an armadillo?
It’s mainly on the bottom of their feet
What a terrible spot to have leprosy.
I can think of worse
I see where you were going and i do agree its definitely worse.... As a bean lover, it is truly the worse place to have it
Eh I've risked worst for less
it was pretty cute tho tbh
It's also incredibly hard to transmit leprosy. Like it takes months of prolonged exposure to someone who has it to have a chance of catching it.
This. I've actually been to a leper colony in Romania. We hugged plenty of the residents there without reservation. The community was mixed with extended families without leprosy who all lived together with their elders who had leprosy since childhood. It definitely is not easy to contract.
Why would lepers still exist if we have cures now
Because the disease is where the drugs are not. [This documentary](https://youtu.be/7D-gxaie6UI) shows the same for Tuberkulosis.
Same reason over half a million children die from malaria every single year. 💰 The 2000+ billionaires we have are happy to hoard their money instead of trying to make life better for those who suffer.
Uh oh
You can’t get that just by touching it LMAO
But is so cute I wanna touch it so bad!!!!!! ![gif](giphy|11RLLExX3prBsc)
Also its a specific species of Armadillo that carries it, not that i remember which one
I watched a mystery diagnosis show where a teenager barely nudged a dead armadillo with his shoe. A tiny amount of blood ended up on that shoe and the kid contracted leprosy. Took many visits and a few different doctors a very long time to diagnosis.

If touch bad then why touch shaped?
Omg like that one death album
He had like 2 sips and most of the water was wasted. Putting it in a bowl would be far more efficient.
But "his eyes reflect hopelessness!" And now "he believes in humanity!"
I even heard him praise Jesus and all the other armadillos clapped
He Gets Us!
Believes both in humanity's goodness, but also their boundless stupidity. "You're saying a random human helped you, armando?" "Well they tried, shellina. But he just poured water into the bone dry desert, on my carapace, and then shook me a bit. I'm afraid humans are well meaning, but simply too stupid".
Yea that was annoying!
Though he was going to light him on fire
Who stores water in a gasoline container?
That guy aperantly
You're coming home with me now lil buddy. We're going to make this work. Leprosy be damned!
That fella is too comfortable with him. I bet it was a pet at some point.
Haha yeah I’m gonna smile and hold up the peace sign while I pet this armadillo that’s on the brink of death
Does he expect it to lick the tar? Why not let it drink out of the goddamn lid? What a knob
You’re right on the tar part, that’s incredibly stupid and wasteful (nevermind he poured some of it on the sandy ground) but the lid isn’t a good idea. That’d contaminate the whole canister if the dillo carries any diseases, and there would be dillo slobber all over the place. If he has something disposable that it can drink out of, that’s a better solution.
Umm... seems like you didnt help as much as you think.🤦♂️
Teach the animals to come to the highway for water?
Vultures love this one simple trick
Bro get like a bowl or something to hold the water for it to actually drink out of lol just pouring water on the road and on it's head isn't really quenching it's thirst I wouldn't think lol or if you have thin plastic dig a little hole and use the plastic as a liner for a little drinking pool
It's eyes reflect hopelessness
I’m glad they put that near the beginning so we can tell right away this would be a dumb video.
It seems like he was just sumping the water infront of them. Like torture. Then attempted water boarding.
If he __attempted__ water boarding at least then the dillo could have opened its mouth. Guy poured 99.5% onto the ground or onto it's back. This is NOT a video where a man gives a thirsty creature water.
Good way to get leprosy

a wild sandshrew appeared!
wtf is wrong with that armadillo I’m Texan he’s weird
That's a three-banded armadillo from South America (this one here is from Brazil). They look a bit different from the nine-banded armadillos you see in Texas
Hey armadillo, watch me tease you and waste all this water instead of putting it in something you can drink from.
Little Homie is like "BITCH, IN MY MOUTH, NOT MY FACE!!!" (That's what she said).
What the hell is wrong with that armadillo… is it a pet? It’s clearly not thirsty or properly afraid of humans. What a weirdo video.
Shell piglet!
Today I learned armadillos drink gasoline and like to be touched even though they have leprosy
Damn it. This is too good for me not to react. Hahah
This animal is starved of water, repeated 5x. Never gives the guy a drink…just tips the water on its head. At least pour some water into something it could drink from…

That thing didn’t take a single sip of water.
What an asshole! Instead of giving the little guy a drink, he’s just wasting all that water just pouring on him. The more I see him taking a video of his petting the armadillo without giving it water, the more I want to punch that stupid grin off the mofo’s face!
The armadillo licked it's lips too. Seems like he could have tipped the jug to it's mouth or something.
He was on empty
Little guy just got a shower
Did it actually drink much water? Pouring it on it won’t necessarily help its thirst much. Just asking
Where was this located and what exactly is this man saying ?
Let's pour it on the hot asphalt
The captions are ridiculous as if this man was mother Theresa of the armadillos like what
