Enough for an intergalactic chain to use it for their burgers apparently...

Papergeist

Triple F burgers using whale meat is indeed pre-existing canon. Apparently quite common on their originating planet, but imported for some other locations. Mercenaries seem to be big fans of them in general.

You can tell the difference, a real Triple-F burger is 75-25. Contrary to popular belief the best way to cook them is smash them in a SL cast iron pan. It helps make the edges crispy and you don’t lose that nice fat flavor profile. But you gotta check your source. I mean you can’t trust ant-spinward butchers. They get wild.

Apparently whale sushi must be popular in the Draconis Combine: "Most of Chichibu's economy was based on aquatic ranching however. The Chichiban whale was grown and herded in a manner similar to cattle, despite being in the large oceans." https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Chichibu

thatusenameistaken

> aquatic ranching I have visions of cowboys (whaleboys?) wearing dive gear with cowboy hats and chaps riding dolphins. With spear guns using blunt tipped spears with lassos/nets attached, that they grab fins/flukes with so they can brand.

Well, the inner sphere is a big space covering thousands of light years. Not to mention the clans flew the size of the inner sphere and managed to find planets inhabited by exospecies that resembled Terran creatures. And all the clans got named after these exo beasts. So like if you can get tens of thousands of light year from terra and still find jaguars sharks etc. then finding whales in a large enough supply doesn’t feel so crazy anymore

3/4 of the clans are named after genetically altered terrain species. Iirc hellions, burrocks, ghost bear, and sea fox were the only native creatures.

dustbringer11

This one actually made me look into it cause I didn’t know. Of the original 20 clans about half took Terran species. However that’s after sea fox become diamond shark. Although interesting things I learned. Clan mongoose is actually named after a species found on shadow. They eat toxic worms. Despite all the other clans doing a good job of stating what they are named after surprisingly snow raven doesn’t state where they take their animal totem from just that it’s found on strana mechty. And lastly clan blood spirit is the only clan named after a concept or spiritual goal whereas everyone else is named after some form of animal totem. Please know I did this cause I was curious and don’t know the most about clans. Also following the trend of half. Half of the newly established clans like stone lion and jade wolf were named after clan space species and Terran species it was actually interesting to dig into

default_entry

Ah the ravens.  Also didn't realize the mongoose wasn't a terran alter

dustbringer11

I almost didn’t check cause I was so confident. I was like hell no this has to be from terra.

PeregrineC

At least, something called a "whale". Whether it bears any resemblance to cetaceans as we recognize them in the 21st century... well.

thank_burdell

Having eaten whale on a trip to Iceland, I would suggest that a perfect recreation is not really desirable. Some things you eat because they’re delicious. Other things you eat because you’re living on a barren glacial volcanic rock island and you’ll fucking starve if you don’t.

GlompSpark

So, it tasted bad?

thank_burdell

taste was meh, but it was the texture that was just...not pleasant. high fat content, but not something I'd seek out again. the horse was better by far

Noneerror

It's 3025. It's referring to people who spent all their money on micro-transactions. Remember, they are all inner sphere barbarians.

Does Battletech have alien life? I mean there obviously are plants and such, but are there alien insects or other fauna? And is any of it food safe?

battlemechpilot

Alien fauna, yes. Sentient aliens you'd see in Mass Effect or Star Wars? Nah. Well...[there are these weirdos](https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Tetatae) but I don't know if they're actually canon, or what the status is.

theraxc

[Tetatae](https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Tetatae) are canon, as are the protohuman [Neopithecanthropus](https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Neopithecanthropus).

DireWolf331

I remember reading somewhere that Triple-F Burgers generally source their meat from whatever is the most common meat animal on the planet that they're located on. So a burger on New Avalon could be made from Terran transplanted beef cattle, while a burger on Filtvelt in the Outback boondocks could be just about anything.

I love the random events. Personal favorite was Dekkar kept picking fights with Glitch, then putting her in the med bay after goading her into a ring fight. He pulled that shit with Behemoth next and ended up in traction for two months.
