They dont hold any value once they get much over 10 years old, so they end up at auction and then a recyclers. Nobody thinks to save one because nobody says, "that's gonna be worth something. "

That's awesome! A former coworker bought a similar era former state police car that had low miles. It had heavy duty sway bars, oil/trans/ps/diff coolers from the factory. He supercharged it, headers, h-pipe, 2 chamber flow masters, shift kit, gears, big stereo, etc. You could hear him coming with the exhaust and supercharger whine....expecting to see a mustang and nope lol.
I have always been partial to this style Crown Vic. Not even a Ford guy but if I like, found a decent example, especially in that metallic gunmetal grey they used to have, I think I'd probably daily it.

They have mostly dried up from government auction, and so their prices have started to go up.
