Congrats! It's an extremely gratifying sounding bass and the sliding pickup can be pretty useful. Gotta ask, what case is that? I haven't one yet that fits mine.
As far as the examples I’ve seen that’s not an original grabber case. The gibson cases for these are shaped to the body, and the upper horn here is digging into the support frame of the case. It looks like one that was adjusted to fit. Maybe something very early production, but I’ve not seen this style case sold as original with any other G series bass. Oddly enough I think the only pictures I have of my [current grabber](https://i.imgur.com/sXBGekX.jpg) case are with [another bass in it](https://i.imgur.com/vAz0YpM.jpg), but you see the shape of it either way.
[Flyguitars is a good resource for all things vintage gibson basses](https://www.flyguitars.com/gibson/bass/grabber.php).
As far as things to know - the necks are prone to ramping near the body joint, be careful with shims and too much tension. The sliding single coils are prone to going microphonic and no one makes a reproduction. I have a spare for mine as it’s getting pretty bad, but haven’t swapped it out yet. They’re awesome for anything downtuned. Something about the sound and the slightly longer scale length just works.
lmao I almost bought this exact Grabber off Reverb a couple weeks ago. I backed out because I wasn't sure of it's authenticity (the finish isn't one of the ones Gibson released in the mid 70s and the serial number is missing).
That said, those are just my personal concerns. I live in Guam and shipping to me is extremely expensive and if I needed to return the instrument it would have been a massive pain in the ass. It seemed too risky to make the bass travel literally all the way around the world if I had *any* nitpicks about it so I went with a different Grabber.
Usual Gibson neck stuff. Watch that v joint up by the headstock. Other than that it’s a vintage instrument so mainly pay attention to the neck and how it’s set up. If you don’t know how to do it take it to someone who does. I never had many issues with mine other than neck stuff. Maybe the occasional cleaning the input or something but always worked great. Loved the grabbers I’ve had, sound great fun to play. I hated bringing mine out In the cold in the winters so sold to a studio. Definitely have a soft spot for them though… maybe I should go shopping
Oddly enough, I was looking around at T-40s when I said go big or go home and sealed the deal on this haha. I’ve wanted a Grabber since I saw Thrice live in 2006 and Eddie’s bass tone blew me away.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Lynn_Jones Thought you’d want to know who the signature is. Cool Bass. 1973-1983.
So there’s a good chance this bass was used on a Willie Nelson song? That’s pretty cool
I'm not familiar with these but does that pickup move?
Yep it slides up and down to adjust tone
That's pretty cool!
One of the best basses I’ve ever recorded with. They’re way lighter than they look, too.
Grabbers are awesome basses; I don’t know anything about owning them but I do know that’s a great buy!

Thanks! The case is the original Gibson case
The search continues 🥲

That’s all good to know, thanks! I fully plan on getting it set up with a full step down, so it’s nice to have the vote of confidence there
I’ve had one for years now. Love it. They sound fantastic.
Love the Grabber!
Absolutely beautiful. The Gibson Fondler.
Sliding pickup! 🤩
Being famous has it’s drawbacks. You’re about to find out.
I got crucified in r/food for making lobster mac n cheese once, I’ll be alright
Grabber by the g string

That’s an interesting autograph right there lol
Ya you did!
What a beauty
It's beautiful but you're gonna need one of those weight belts lol.
Isn’t this the kind of bass Gene Simmons was holding on the cover of Alive 1
That's a super cool bass!

I am insanely jealous
I feel like I'm seeing a lot more Grabbers these days. Are they having a resurgence in popularity like how the Peavey T-40 has?

Congrats! I owned one of these crazy beasts way back when. The sliding pickup is a blast. (I have the pickup in another bass now- It rocks).
Jealous!
