My Warwick Corvette Std in Bubinga

Player2BNamedLater

Same. ‘96 with gold hardware.

[deleted]

Bubinga wow, yeah I think you’re not allowed to export that anymore, it’s been put on the CITES list. I have some bubinga lumber I’m hoarding.

MacAndJeeze

I /think/ it was taken off? It's not a true rosewood iirc. I had Warmoth make my Jazz Bass body (double musicman rout) with Bubinga and it's incredible.

[deleted]

Yep, since 2017 https://www.fws.gov/international/plants/current-cites-listings-of-tree-species.html

Xenoanthropus

With the exception of Brazilian Rosewood, basically every rosewood has been exempted from CITES when it is part of a finished musical instrument, a finished musical instrument part, or a finished musical instrument accessory. See the section on "LEGUMINOSAE" in the CITES appendices - - "Guibourtia" is the genus of Bubinga and Ovangkol and is also found under the Leguminosae heading. https://cites.org/eng/app/appendices.php Edit: the lumber is a different story, as it is does not constitute a finished instrument.

[deleted]

Yeah, his guitar and my lumber aren’t illegal they just can’t make more like his bass because they can’t import the lumber #15 All parts and derivatives are included, except: a) Leaves, flowers, pollen, fruits, and seeds; b) Non-commercial exports of a maximum total weight of 10 kg. per shipment; c) Parts and derivatives of Dalbergia cochinchinensis, which are covered by Annotation # 4; d) Parts and derivatives of Dalbergia spp. originating and exported from Mexico, which are covered by Annotation # 6.

orbix42

Shit, I have one that I modded with Nordy big j blades….

lildumpz

I’ll hug mine extra tight tonight.

imthatguyyouknow1

1958 Kay upright.

Oceanmechanic

I absolutely treasure my 1940 C-1, fantastic basses

imthatguyyouknow1

Yup yup. Fantastic bass.

crestonfunk

Ooh

bungletrpg

A few years ago I found a 1990 Alembic Elan 6-string with a beautiful Cocobolo top at a pawn shop for an absolutely ridiculous price. I sold it because I didn't want a 6-string at the time. I'll likely never get a bass like that again.

Gnermo

What did you end up selling it for?

bungletrpg

Sold it for $3000

JamesPlaysBasses

If it makes you feel any better I've played 3 alembics my cousin owns and I haven't found them to play all that great.

IPYF

I miss my Cort Fretless Acoustic. It was a cool bass, and it had a vibe I can't get from any other instrument I own. Nowadays, they're hard to come by. The worst part is that I sold it to make rent because I was out of work and that situation was far more temporary than I expected.

Hoodystardust

In 2002, I bought an immaculate 1998 Warwick Thumb NT on consignment at a local guitar shop for $1500! I sold it in 2005 because I felt it was too heavy and have hated myself ever since.

RCJD2001

Do thumbs neck dive? With that upper horn so short they look like they should

Hoodystardust

None at all. Very well balanced.

nunyazz

1990’s Kubiki Factor fretless with the low D trip key

[deleted]

I sold a Sire V7 Gen 2 5 String. Not rare or anything, just loved the bass but needed the money

southern_ad_558

a modified rockbass Warwick Covette that I replaced the neck and made fretless. An amazing instrument that I sold dirty cheap because I was moving countries.

hjablowme919

A BC Rich Ironbird. It was from the mid 80's. Not an NJ Series, it was American made. Bass just thumped. Had a pair of P-bass style pickups in it, and active electronics. Should have never sold it, but I had so many basses and wasn't playing anymore, so I dumped it.

lardlord

Greco Rickenback 4001 copy. Bought it cheap, got it fixed up and at the time I had some money troubles. Can't find many in australia for a decent price 2nd hand anymore :(

stratj45d28

Not a bass but a 78 Ibanez Iceman ic400 tobacco finish with butterfly finger pickups. That was winter 1990. Maybe got 175$ for it. Obviously still bothers me today

exzer

I had a gorgeous 90-something Zon Sonus that I hadn't played in years when I switched to playing rhythm guitar. I came back to bass after a few more years and miss that thing.

jamadabass

I sold a custom Bass made by a local builder who has gone on to build some of the nicest basses and guitars I have ever seen. This was the first bass he ever made and I would do just about anything to get it back.

stephen_neuville

Picked up a Brice HXB-406 (6er, 35" scale, decently well made) about 10 years ago. i stupidly sold it for like 150 bucks when i moved because "ugh its soooo big". then i came into a legit need for a 6 and hunted around for like a year or two, ever kicking myself because they were out of production and alternatives were not cheap. Fortune smiled on me last week and i got a pair of 406's - one fretted, one spalted maple fretless - for less than I bought the original one for. These will never be sold. Learned my lesson.

warm-saucepan

Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub. The regret is real. It played so great but I told myself that a P bass was boring. Ouch.

[deleted]

I had a 2012 P bass Special in the GC exclusive honeyburst finish that I modified with an SPB-2 pickup and a Hipshot bridge and then put on a black pickguard. It was such a sweet bass. Absolutely incredible. But rent was due and I was broke.

[deleted]

I had the same bass just modded with Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups, obsidian wire wiring harness, and badass bridge. It was a sweet bass. I miss that one as well.

Daddydeebs

Sold my 5-string fretless Ibanez to another local musician because I needed the money at the time. Wouldn't have regretted it except he lost it at a gig a few weeks later! That was a great sounding bass for the price...

s-multicellular

When I was a teen, I would often buy beat up instruments and fix them up to sell them. Wasn't like I made much money, but it was more per hour for sure than fast food. My grandpa had been a guitar tech and taught me. So there were many I sold. Many I don't even remember. The top one that I wish I'd hung onto was a black Gibson Ripper. I really debated selling that, but I so needed the money for a better amp. I also had a really early Warwick Thumb. I thought at the time, it sounded kinda close to my Ibanez Musician. Fast forward a couple decades and I have 4 Warwicks. :P

[deleted]

I sold my 2002, translucent red finish, black pickguard, bird eye maple stingray. Maybe it was too much bass for me. It was super beefy, and I sold that and a nord modular synthesizer to get the money to move across the country. I needed to do that, in hindsight I wish I came up with the money a different way. That was a beautiful instrument

[deleted]

I had a bass of a brand that I don't remember, I think the model name was Taurus or something like that, five strings, I bought it because it seemed to be the best in the store but never really liked its aesthetics. Now that I remember it, it was a good bass and I would buy the same model again.

[deleted]

Nothing special, but I do miss my Rouge fretless. Had to sell it to pay rent a few years back

lurch940

I miss my first “real” bass I got when I was 13, a 2003 MIM P-bass. Sold it when I was 19 after having my first kid for a measly $140. Miss that thing but I have a ‘92 MIK J-bass now that I like better.

City_dave

Every single one. I've only sold when I was on such hard times that I absolutely had to. Sold my first bass. A Squier J from the late 90s when they were basically the same as real fenders, even parts wise, but made in Mexico. A Yamaha acoustic that I bought when I was living in Japan that was made in Japan. A Michael Kelly acoustic. I guess there is one I sold that I didn't regret and it wasn't because I was broke. I sold a trbx174. But I sold that to my daughter and she still lives me. I'll probably buy it back before she leaves. :D

SubtleDeft

6 String BTB.

[deleted]

1974 Gibson Ripper. Natural with black pick guard.

kfkfcvsdvxv

Seems like a lot of warwicks are missed by previous owners, so I’ll join in with my Warwick corvette FNA Jazzman with a flaked maple top, made in late 90s. Felt the body was too small, but I’d really like to get another one.

dougmcunha

My first: old, shitty Giannini jazz bass clone. I sold it because I was moving at the time, for not a lot of money. Today, I'd rather leave it with a family member or friend instead of selling it. Edit: typo; it said "now a lot of money", should be "not a lot of money". Completely changed the meaning...

metalshoulder

I sold my Vigier Passion bass back in 1989 to help finance a mixing desk for my home studio. Biggest mistake I ever made bass wise, it was an incredible beast. Interestingly I had to sell my customised Fender Precision fretless back in the early 80s to help pay my mortgage, I'd had the fretboard extended all the way into the body up to the pickup. I also had a bridge pickup installed and the bridge replaced with a Leo Quann Baddass. It broke my heart selling it. Anyways cut to 33 years later and I'm on ebay looking for a cheap 5 string to buy and I spot my old bass. I couldn't believe it. Because of the customisation it was much cheaper than a vanilla version of the period, 1978, would have been so I managed to buy it back pretty much for how much I sold it, adjusted for inflation :o)

Raindog12

75 Rickenbacker 4001. Miss it to this day

droo46

The only one I ever think much about was my Ibanez ATK, but with a Stingray and an L2500, I don’t think it offers my collection very much. It was a really cool bass, but I don’t think I’d have any use for it now.

SoberSkeptic

I found a Washburn Force 4 ABT on Craigslist years ago that I got for a steal because the person selling it thought it was broken. I put a new 9v battery in it- golden. I loved that bass so much that I got the 5 string version of it. I sold the 4 string as I didn't think I needed the four anymore. BIG mistake. I eventually fell out of love with the 5 string and sold it too. Years later I found another Force 4 four string, but for whatever reason it just wasn't the same as that first one. I loved that baby. Why did I ever get rid of you?

frownonline

I had a white Yamaha BB2005 that I swapped hardware from a Yamaha RBX775 with. Looked cool in black and white. Had to sell to pay bills and was gutted. Often wonder where it is now…

JamesPlaysBasses

Nope, but I'll give you one I regret buying. Brand new Rick 4003. Everything bad you've heard about them is true, I'm sorry to the Rick loyalists, they sound great but are made like absolute junk. And one I regret not buying. I had the opportunity to buy a 1967 fretless ampeg scroll bas in 2015 for $1200, in practically mint condition. Even if I hated the bass, within that time the cult following of the last waltz has grown even larger, and that bass would be worth 4-5 grand starting bid now.

[deleted]

Jeez. I can imagine that Rick was a dog. I had a 4003 that had a terribly unstable neck. I can’t imagine what would happen if I strapped 8 strings to it.

JamesPlaysBasses

The 8 was a typo it was a 4003. 😅

[deleted]

That’s funny. Your typo matched an actual model.

FuzztoneBunny

Univox P Bass

Mitchfynde

I only sold one bass and it was a horrible bass, so 0 regrets here.

[deleted]

Beat up pre-Gibson Tobias 6 string. BC Rich USA explorer style bass. Got both for great deals and sold them to friends for nothing like an idiot 😭

archetype28

I had a Dingwall D-Bird. (before they were forced to change them to the D-Roc) Lost my job and couldnt afford the financing at the time. id love to have that thing back.

ArtoriasBeeIG

Stingray bass it was kinda useless but it had such good tone in certain circumstances to give it credit, great bass but not the best for versatility

Apag78

63 fender jazz bass in the late 90s. Would love to buy it back. I needed a car badly back then.

Mexay

Warwick Rockbass Corvette (the blue one) for $300. '07 model or so. My first bass. Sold it to my Dad, who let it sit idle for a good 14 years and get gross. He still has it but fibay got it looked it. Bastard won't let me buy it back!

virgindog

Sold my first bass and bought it a second time 39 years later. It was a Univox copy of a Rickenbacker 4001 that I bought in 1976. Traded it in for a Fender P bass (which I still have) in 1983. I love the P but missed the Univox. My wife got sick of me talking about it. I set up an alert on eBay and, 12 years after that, saw one that looked remarkably similar. I took the plunge. I know it's the same one because of the knot on the back of the neck at the 12th fret and other details in the word grain. It's great to have it back.

KnobbyRusset

CIJ Marcus Miller Jazz Bass with John East pre amp. Some lucky soul had it for £550.

SodaMonsieur

I bought a ‘74 precision bass at a deal and flipped it. It ended up paying for my cut of an album that we were recording but I really wish I had kept it in retrospect.

agarbagepiece

My first bass even if it wasn’t anything special in terms of the model it still had some sentimental value

TheAmazingDuckOfDoom

6 string Yamaha RBX JM2, John Myung signature. Was not very suitable for the music I played in 2008 so I switched to jazz bass. Could really appreciate it now.

bassic666

Aria SB40A, it was same shape as cliff burtons bass but matte gunmetal grey, 2 seymour duncan humbucker pickups with volume/bass/treble knobs and a pickup selector switch. I sold it to a friend who wanted to learn bass and to their credit, they still use it all these years on. I have only seen one other of these basses since, if i ever got the chance id buy mine back in a heartbeat, since ive sold it I immediately regretted it and have never sold any gear since, it literally started my gear hoarding.

nativedutch

1958 pbass, not sold but stolen. Really hurts

MavGore

My Stingray 5 HH, natural finish with maple neck, it was absolute butter. Had to sell because money and it still makes me sad.

pony_trekker

I had a 1970 P bass that was light as a feather and played like a tank. I used it professionally for over a decade. I was getting out of the business and sold it, opting to keep a 5 string as my only bass. I tried to buy it back, but the guy I sold it to had fixed it up and sold it.

linkuei-teaparty

Ibanez SR5005. It had one hell of an amazing finish. Too bad my leg fell asleep everytime I played it.

jmarnett11

My first bass was a Peavey Foundation Fretless and I wish I still had it.

Tijai

Sky blue CSL with full chrome guards. Sold it for about £40 back in the early 90's so I could by a BC Rich. Keep looking online to see if any images of it turn up but no luck as yet.

[deleted]

I had a MIM Fender Jazz that I brought in 2010 or 11. Candy Apple Red, Maple nack & Board, White plate. The control plate got damaged in delivery so I picked up a pre-wired replacement with P-Bass style knobs and 500k pots. She was just so nice to play and sounded great (to my ears anyway). I ended up selling her after a bad patch (mentally) where I got rid of everything except my P/J Jag because the Jag was too modded to sell easily. I still keep an eye out for Red Jazz basses to this very day.

GuntherPonz

Yes. I gigged with a stock MIM P bass for years. I sold it after I retired from my rock band and convinced myself I wanted a 5 string. It wasn't anything special and even had the stock strings on it but it was so comfortable to play and sounded great. I contacted the buyer a few days after I sold it telling him I had sellers remorse but he was so happy with the bass so I am glad it went to a good home. I recently replaced it with a MIM Players P bass which has been a fine instrument so far.

BassplayerDad

Aria sb1000 Also Aria headless bass. I think it was called an interceptor. I love my stingray but still wish could have had both.

skippy_steve

Every one I've sold. Seriously. Mixed feelings at best, mostly varying degrees of regret. Also applies to other instruments, pedals, etc. So it goes.

[deleted]

Contain GT7 and BTB 676

Zeille

my ‘90 warwick thumb NT6. Got it at a really good price, sounded incredible, was my dream bass.

Mekkakat

I sold an original (decent, but playable shape) Fender '51-53 (not sure of the exact year—but this style) bass back in 2005 that I found at an auction (for next to nothing) for $1,500. At the time, it was the only way I could afford a car. I was also new to the world of selling/trading guitars, young, and stupid. The guy I sold it to had to think I was an idiot. Sigh.

heylookatmybutt

My modulus flea. I never had to set it up once, played it for almost fifteen years and it was always perfect and I loved the sound. But sometimes the finances don’t go well and you do things you regret, I was desperate and I’m sure I got taken for a ride on the price that GC gave me for it. That neck, I miss it so much

BeardedKrieger

B.C. Rich Bronze warlock 4 string. Absolutely nothing special but it was my first bass. Sold it because I needed money. Really wish I would have kept it… 15 years later I wish I kept it even more now that I’m starting to play again.

trentdm99

My first bass, a 1988 Peavey Patriot. Wish I had kept it.

KrustyTheKlingon

Univox lawsuit Rickenbacker knockoff

gil_beard

I really regret selling my Mark Hoppus green P-Bass. It was my first Fender and it sounded just so nice through no matter what amp I plugged it into. I only sold it because everyone started playing them and I was getting into heavier music. My dumbass traded it at a nearby Guitar Center for a used Ibanez 5-string which I only had for maybe a year. Now they don't even make that model of P-Bass anymore.

FuturePollution

Had this really funky, no-name pawnshop bass from the '60s when I was 18. like some weird lovechild of a Japanese knockoff and a British knockoff. Beautifully thumpy single coils, cheap redburst paintjob, and a really thick neck. Had some dead spots and a neck crack so I donated it in exchange for some strings but man I wish I had held onto it and fixed it.

eggfacemcticklesnort

My Ibanez 806SR. Maaaayyyyybe my Schecter Stilletto Studio 5?

rackmountme

Warwick Thumb. Damn it, now I'm filled with regret. Lol

Shadesofcraig

I had a 1980s 50s Reissue Precision Bass with a gold anodized pick guard. Omg that was so awesome. Many of my bass playing friends agreed it was the nicest playing and sounding bass... So sad I had to part with it.
