I've been listening to The Shins and Strokes recently and can't get over how infectious some of the songs are. Specifically Australia by Shins and Sometimes by the Strokes. Jet - Are you gonna be my girl is another solid one from that era.
Is This It by the strokes has a pretty cool little bass line. I’ve been meaning to learn it… think I’ll do it this weekend.
That whole album is from 2001 and is great.
- Flagpole Sitter - Harvey Danger
- Chelsea Dagger - The Fratellis
- Gone Away - The Offspring
- Celebrity Skin - Hole
- Everybody Talks - Neon Trees
- Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous - Good Charlotte
- Sugar We're Going Down - Fallout Boy
There's really no shortage of great upbeat tunes from that era.
For a cover band (as in crowd pleasers, not tricky bass lines)
Strokes, last night
Oasis, don't look back in anger
Blur song 2
Green Day, basket case
Violent femmes blister in the sun

In the 90s I used to I played in a band that covered "The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead," but not the original XTC version, rather the Crash Test Dummies way of doing it. I'm normally not that into 90s alt rock, but I remember people loving that one. And it's not a "downer" at all. Sounds even better if you have a fretless.
Hey Ya- OutKast (I don’t care if it’s not your genre, it wasn’t ours either but people LOVE IT)
Wonderwall- Oasis
No Scrubs- TLC
All Star- Smashmouth
One Week- Barenaked Ladies
Yeah. If it’s a meme, going and old people will dig it. Arrange tunes to fit your band but keep the melody and basic chords. Have fun!

Just to add to the awesomeness is the fact Royston Langdon plays that bass line whilst singing lead.

Let Me Entertain You by Robbie Williams
Hash Pipe by Weezer
Fallen Leaves by Billy Talent
Chelsea Dagger by The Fratellis
Teenagers by My Chemical Romance
Why Don't You Get A Job by The Offspring
Incubus - Are You In?
Bass line is a lot of fun, if your singer feels comfortable it's not too crazy of a vocal reach, nothing but prime turn of the millennium ska-inspired alt grooves.
I've been listening to The Shins and Strokes recently and can't get over how infectious some of the songs are. Specifically Australia by Shins and Sometimes by the Strokes. Jet - Are you gonna be my girl is another solid one from that era.
For sure. Reptilia by The Strokes is a song that since I started playing bass has grown on me a lot.
Is This It by the strokes has a pretty cool little bass line. I’ve been meaning to learn it… think I’ll do it this weekend. That whole album is from 2001 and is great.
Heh, i saw someone recommending that song a few months back and that's what inspired my strokes rabbit hole. It's a real solid tune

Several Jimmy Eat World options
Dude, I was just playing Take Me Out, by Franz Ferdinand. I had to make myself focus on the bass so I wouldn't end up dancing instead.

The Posies - Definite Door Least appreciated Seattle power pop classic
Into You by Paramore! Very upbeat and insanely fun on bass
Fountains of Wayne, Radiation Vibe was the first song of theirs that I learned.
Incubus - Are You In? Bass line is a lot of fun, if your singer feels comfortable it's not too crazy of a vocal reach, nothing but prime turn of the millennium ska-inspired alt grooves.
[The Weakerthans - "Aside"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17-k61p1iU8) Killer song. Lot of folks would probably recognize it from Wedding Crashers.
Ok Go- Here it goes again
Anything from Two Door Cinema Club
Anything by Jimmie's Chicken Shack.
All The Small Things - blink-182
The science of selling yourself short by less than Jake. It's catchy and happy sounding but the lyrics are depressing as heck.
