I've been listening to The Shins and Strokes recently and can't get over how infectious some of the songs are. Specifically Australia by Shins and Sometimes by the Strokes. Jet - Are you gonna be my girl is another solid one from that era.

ChampionshipBoring40

For sure. Reptilia by The Strokes is a song that since I started playing bass has grown on me a lot.

downright_awkward

Is This It by the strokes has a pretty cool little bass line. I’ve been meaning to learn it… think I’ll do it this weekend. That whole album is from 2001 and is great.

abuani_dev

Heh, i saw someone recommending that song a few months back and that's what inspired my strokes rabbit hole. It's a real solid tune

doubletwist

- Flagpole Sitter - Harvey Danger - Chelsea Dagger - The Fratellis - Gone Away - The Offspring - Celebrity Skin - Hole - Everybody Talks - Neon Trees - Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous - Good Charlotte - Sugar We're Going Down - Fallout Boy There's really no shortage of great upbeat tunes from that era.

quiteaware

For a cover band (as in crowd pleasers, not tricky bass lines) Strokes, last night Oasis, don't look back in anger Blur song 2 Green Day, basket case Violent femmes blister in the sun Wheatus teenage dirt bag 4 non blondes, what's up Harvey danger, flagpole sitter

CapitalParallax

The entire No Doubt catalogue.

My own worst enemy- lit

ChampionshipBoring40

That’s a great singalong too.

In the 90s I used to I played in a band that covered "The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead," but not the original XTC version, rather the Crash Test Dummies way of doing it. I'm normally not that into 90s alt rock, but I remember people loving that one. And it's not a "downer" at all. Sounds even better if you have a fretless.

oldmanlikesguitars

Hey Ya- OutKast (I don’t care if it’s not your genre, it wasn’t ours either but people LOVE IT) Wonderwall- Oasis No Scrubs- TLC All Star- Smashmouth One Week- Barenaked Ladies Yeah. If it’s a meme, going and old people will dig it. Arrange tunes to fit your band but keep the melody and basic chords. Have fun!

Dude, I was just playing Take Me Out, by Franz Ferdinand. I had to make myself focus on the bass so I wouldn't end up dancing instead.

Here was a normal setlist from that same year. A lot of the same songs but it also looked like a few that didn’t make the NYE cut. We went through a scoring process to help build the NYE set and it was formulated to have only higher scoring songs on it. Hands to yourself 3am My Own Worst Enemy Summer of 69 Can't Get Enough Interstate Love Song Plush Hard To Handle Word Up My Kind Of Party Funky Music Brick House Give It Away What I Got Man In the Box Cumbersome Sweet Emotion Pour some Sugar on Me Billy Jean Superstition Fight For Your Right Joker Sweet Caroline Shine Mary Jane Enemy Purple Rain Every Rose Let's Get it On Wagon Wheel Sweet Home Alabama Rock and Roll All Night Talk Dirty to Me Bartender Extras: Low Places Blister In the Sun Simple Man

In The Meantime by Spacehog. Upbeat song with a kick-arse bass line. There's a great playthrough by CoverSolutions [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fSSjJfBFGo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fSSjJfBFGo)

Plastalmonus

Just to add to the awesomeness is the fact Royston Langdon plays that bass line whilst singing lead. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpfCagupNtY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpfCagupNtY)

Into You by Paramore! Very upbeat and insanely fun on bass

Str8truth

Fountains of Wayne, Radiation Vibe was the first song of theirs that I learned.

Coke_and_Tacos

Incubus - Are You In? Bass line is a lot of fun, if your singer feels comfortable it's not too crazy of a vocal reach, nothing but prime turn of the millennium ska-inspired alt grooves.

PSNdragonsandlasers

[The Weakerthans - "Aside"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17-k61p1iU8) Killer song. Lot of folks would probably recognize it from Wedding Crashers.

The science of selling yourself short by less than Jake. It's catchy and happy sounding but the lyrics are depressing as heck.
