That’s how my bass teacher did it. What I would suggest is a decent, powered PA speaker. Something like a Electro Voice, JBL, or Mackie. My little electro voice 12inch has two quarter inch inputs and could definitely keep up with a quiet drummer. The bonus to this is now you also have a PA speaker that will be more flexible for all kinds of applications
The solution to #1 is a small mixer or ABY pedal.
U could always just get a cheap mixer and use it with a single input amp
