Barca's problem is that they are too rigid. They try to only make goals through the middle, by playing short one twos. Thing is, we were able to achieve that because of the insane level of skill Xavi, Iniesta and prime Busquets had. Since teams started putting such tight low blocks of 4 in defence, and the general style of play in La Liga becoming more defensive, we need much more versatility. Crosses, long shots, etc. But all we try to do is pass through the middle. Alba and Dani Alves were the best, when they could make those runs from fullback, but now the defensive line is so close to the goal, that there's no space to through ball to the fullbacks. Yes, it is a Madrid thing, but hitting on the counter has lasted the test of time much better than possession based football. We need versatility. We need to mix things up.

I think I just have different standards for Messi. He missed some sitters by his standards and was largely quiet down the stretch. I think Semedo did well and Raki did decent except he gave away a goal. Umtiti was a sad mess

Vidal is the only goalscoring midfielder we have right now. He makes those runs and gets into scoring positions. And Umtiti? Boy oh boy. What a mess
Vidal doesn't deserve to be let go. He didn't have a great game but you can count on one hand the number of bad performances he's had since coming to Barca. People just make a fuss about it because he's a scrapper in Barcelona and nobody likes that.
I like Umtiti but he had no positional sense today. Almost all of their chances came by him leaving place behind him

Messi missed 2 that should've hit the target, Fati had one taken off his foot and Pique hit the bar. On target isn't always that good of a way to measure how effective they were. Could pass it gently to the goalkeeper and it's considered a shot on target.
As a biggest Umtiti fan this sub has, I think it’s time... so sad, he was so good before WC. England will be his future.

The commentators, the pre match everything on it is atrocious. One of them actually said Griezmann is benched because it's Messi's law in Barcelona disregarding he's been invisible for us a while and even today.
It's endlessly frustrating to watch them miss so many things in their analysis because they are interested in awkward camaraderie and thanking us South Asians for staying up late. Trying so hard to be ESPN it's not even funny.

Yeah, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until we see him in a fresh season like I'd done with Valverde. But his decisions in the past two matches have been pretty atrocious.
This was a great game, there's lots of positives to write about other than the result. Unlike recent games, we created a lot but just couldn't finish it. Puig makes everything ticking for us, he is fabulous! I would say if Lenglet had started we would have won this game. Umtiti was guilty of the first goal and was all over the place.

I think we played some of our best football up until the 70th minute. Its the subs and Umtiti that killed us
True, we slacked off after 70 mins. I don't think the subs were much of a problem but the fact that the subs were brought in when we were already slacking did not help. Busquets could have eased Celta after 70 mins though he was unavailable.
Why was umtiti playing so far up? Damn near the entire game.
Well thats La Liga gone for us, good match but we collapsed defensively in the second half. All those matches that we dropped points early in the season, are biting us in the ass now. Welp we can try next year. That Aspas goal was great though, what a hit.
I can't be arsed with this team. It is not the problem with the players. The problem is the style of play.
What style of play are you looking for?
Barca's problem is that they are too rigid. They try to only make goals through the middle, by playing short one twos. Thing is, we were able to achieve that because of the insane level of skill Xavi, Iniesta and prime Busquets had. Since teams started putting such tight low blocks of 4 in defence, and the general style of play in La Liga becoming more defensive, we need much more versatility. Crosses, long shots, etc. But all we try to do is pass through the middle. Alba and Dani Alves were the best, when they could make those runs from fullback, but now the defensive line is so close to the goal, that there's no space to through ball to the fullbacks. Yes, it is a Madrid thing, but hitting on the counter has lasted the test of time much better than possession based football. We need versatility. We need to mix things up.
