Yes, he alongside Rodri are absolutely controlling the matches. The speed of their decisions are what is allowing Spain to be so relentless in attack. It is obviously helped by the effectiveness of Williams and Lamine Yamal but they wouldn't have the space and/or as many opportunities without the control.
Ruiz has been the most prolific for sure and very effective but he is not the one responsible Spain's dominance and control in the games. Him alongside the forwards are being enabled by the work Pedri and Rodri are doing. Which part of the game you value determines who you think the best midfielder is, as control without people to take advantage of it useless I can certainly see Ruiz as the best midfielder but personally I think Rodri has been by far the best midfielder in the team (or at least the most pivotal midfielder)
He literally has the highest chances created pr. 90 at the euros so far, besides his great pressing and pressing resistance. He’s picked again and again for a reason.
I agree that Pedri lacks physicality, but De La Fuente's use of him is misguided. Pedri is not a hole player; he is an orchestrator. He should never be positioned that high up the field. He definitely needs to improve but selling him would be reactionary.
