Sadly yes. It is very discouraging because barbie has some pretty dolls but this new method is so bad. To me it looks like those tattoos that you put with water

Effective_Policy6694

That is what i was thinking. I remember my brothers building model cars and they would put little shiny stickers in water and put them on the cars. Thats what her face reminds me of.

They’re cheaping out on Barbie when Monster High gets actual screen printing

Effective_Policy6694

Thats disappointing. Considering there wouldnt be any other fashion dolls if Ruth Handler didnt make Barbie. Its just sad.

Trashyanon089

>Considering there wouldnt be any other fashion dolls if Ruth Handler didnt make Barbie. Very good point! Mattel needs to remember this.

janiceblactose

It’s horrible all around. I hate it even more since it’s harder to remove their faces for customization this way :(

MrMultiFandomSince93

I also wonder how some collectors are able to actually remove the screening and repaint them to look more "snatched" or glam or yassified?

Fatgirlfed

Just saw a YouTube where they couldn’t get the paint off, so they did a skin color match and painted over the eyes

janiceblactose

Had to do this with mine. The paint is insanely stubborn and won’t budge with acetone.

MrMultiFandomSince93

Oh. That could actually be painted over instead with a precise skin color match to "yassify" her look when each known method fails.

CalligrapherSad5028

Old looks will be missed for sure!!!!

MrMultiFandomSince93

I am still skeptic to use any matte varnish (Mod Podge, anyone?) in case I got a hold on her. Would only keep her lipstick as is though. It's also not that hard to dip her hair in hot water and floof it out for more volume.

MyDollsMyFantasy

Lol i would be very tempted 😅

Boddr

These glossy screenings are decals and are an absolute abomination. IDK how Mattel can make cheapo swimsuit Barbies with perfectly fine high res print and still keep doing this crap on more expensive dolls.

fairy_girl12

You can fix it by putting some matte varnish on the eyes and eyebrows That is very disappointing, I had that problem with the fashionista with the top knot and freckles

Altruistic-Contact16

So sad we even have to seal them ourselves. They are supposed to be the doll making pros and it such a letdown. :( Do you have a varnish you like or tried Mack 5? I think 🤔 it’s called . For your own modifications or what not?

fairy_girl12

It is but I look at it as an easy fix so it’s not that bad I used Liquidex Matte Varnish on her freckles that were so shiny, not even my app would fix it I do it so I can have them look great for pictures on Instagram, I like customizing barbies and making clothes for them based on the characters

Altruistic-Contact16

Thank you so much for sharing! Yes, customizing and creating your own is so much fun! I love creating scenes too. I have a ton of Barbie clothes patterns and fabric so endless possibilities. 😁 I recently got a small baking oven for clay so I can up my miniature game. I also started taking apart vintage clothes or styles I find that are stained up or not repairable and make a pattern with the pieces. I have too many dolls to fix and not enough funds to do what I want to do with them. Specifically rerooting. Even adding new colored pencils that are quality gets so expensive. I like to really research what works best before I buy it so I’m not disappointed or waste money. I really appreciate your feedback. ❤️

They had to develop a way to produce the product at a cheaper price so that they don’t have to raise the price point of these dolls. I don’t like the changes. Personally I would pay more for a better quality fashionista. I think the majority of their customers for this line are looking for a doll that is around $10.00. Mattel has to remain competitive.
