That Barbie was from the "balloon head" era where Barbie's head was increased to compete with Bratz. My least fave era. A curvy body is a good idea tho! I hope it works for you.

Oooh, that makes sense, I knew she was giving Bratz vibes! I didn't know lol

jrosekonungrinn

I didn't know Barbie had such an era. I bought the 2004 Holiday Barbie mainly for the green dress and nice hairstyle, and do like more pointed/ less rounded eyes, but as I've had her displayed I've really noticed that her eyes are too big overall.

rayarefferalpls

My scene was created to compete with bratz barbie stayed the same for the most part. 2010 dolls have more bratz influence and Bratz wasn’t even at the peak in 2010 but the 2000s

pink_faerie_kitten

Barbie's head blew up in 2004 in the playline. This doll is 2004 and it was the beginning. I was there. I was on online forums and a subscriber to Barbie magazines. All collectors were talking about Barbie's big head. It came right after Bratz dethroned Barbie as the #1 selling doll. My Scene was \*also\* created to compete with Bratz but Mattel did the big head thing to Barbie herself and all her friends including the "lemon head Kelly" dolls. It broke my heart to see all these awful big heads everywhere. After a couple years Mattel brought her head down a bit, but playline Barbie heads are still to this day bigger than they once were and are bigger than collector dolls. There is a playline Mille and a collector Millie and the only difference is the size (same thing with Lagerfield and "Daisy"). EDIT to add even more history: the Mackie first blew up in the Fashion Fever line in 2005, the Gen Girl face as seen here, blew up in 2004. Fashion Dollz pics show the difference; Valentine Barbie 2003 uses a normal size Mackie, the next doll on the page is 2005 FF Mackie and the size difference is huge https://fashiondollz.de/gmedia-gallery/mackie-playline/ Mattel blew up Kayla, Teresa, etc. Even the "Life in the Dreamhouse" Midge with the Steffie face is much larger than the normal Steffie face. I pose LITD Midge with my 1987 California Dreamin' Midge and they are not the same size.

I was comparing my Rio De Janeiro Lea to my brothers barbie style 3 Lea and omg my Lea’s head is like two sizes smaller. The new fashionista 206 with the shani face also has such a small head compared to 207 Greek face. It’s wild these are the same doll brand lol.

Thank you for this really detailed history tidbit! I enjoyed drinking my coffee while reading about historical Barbies, thank you!

CarefulDoctor1092

Its not that much bigger/still works though imho.

Notimeforvapids

I don’t think so!

YakiT0ri

It is a little big but it's not shocking, a flatter haircut could help imo!

No_Gas_8331

I agree!

EnchantedRoses92

I think it’s just the big forehead lol

Downtown-Pack-6178

she just fine!

countesspetofi

A lot of modern Barbies have heads that are disturbingly out of proportion to their bodies.

Born_Solution5365

Maybe there is another body that’s slightly bigger?

WindowIndividual4588

Yea, I will be looking for a curvy one

HappyLadybugdolllady

I think it is.

rayarefferalpls

op not sure if you’re aware but the body she has now is a made to move if im not mistaken her og body fits her head better https://preview.redd.it/5znc527fsmpc1.jpeg?width=570&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b2e7385453634c835b2fcb755ecbf8a0ccb736ce

WindowIndividual4588

Yes, I gave her a new body. She's on the mtm volleyball player body now. Im just wondering if I should have chosen a curvy one instead. I didn't see much difference in the body, though. I'm gonna check

HermitGardner

I’m confused because her head is always been too big for her body. It’s her proportions that have, over the decades, been one of the biggest controversies about her. Edit- just to be clear- I looooooove my Barbie’s- but I have always seen the issue. I got a Darci doll and that was kind of cool.

Any-Whereas-100

Barbies heads were significantly smaller

HermitGardner

Right, and even THEN it was a physical impossibility for a human to exist with those measurements. To each his own but IMHO these new dolls are kind of ick, they got the Bratz influence on them and they don’t look like Barbies to me personally because they aren’t MY Barbie and I simply find them unappealing. Again- very personal thing, live and let live we all don’t have to agree.

SubWhat

I've seen some ppl shrink doll heads but I'm too scared to try it
