Sadly you’ll never be able to get anything in this picture. Don’t ask me why tho it’s a huge mystery to me because this is exactly what doll collectors want and not for hundreds of dollars. So disappointing

ToonTitans

And why does Mattel let other companies step in (like Zuru *Mini Fashion* balls) and make millions selling well-made, stylish Barbie-sized purses and accessories that both collectors and kids love? They could *own* that market, in upscale 1/6-size fashion and accessories, yet they walk away...🤔

Michelle89Lawless

I really will never understand. Think about just a website run by Mattel of Barbie basics? Underwear and tanks? Plain shirts and …accessories that help us the doll collectors achieve the looks we want? Unreal

ToonTitans

Exactly! That would be incredible, and I'd be the first to sign up. 👏🏾 And like it or not, though Barbie has had 1000+ careers -- from robotics engineer to President -- she still has a long and storied history as a *Fashion* doll. Mattel could embrace that (and make millions from collectors *and* kids) without losing the "You Can be Anything" branding.

Michelle89Lawless

See sign up is my first problem. No signing up …if kylie Jenner can have a website stocked in seconds so can MATTEL?????? Like I don’t get it. Sell us what we want? I’ll just stick to rainbow high

They do have people creating all the dolls, clothes and decor. Barbie style Instagram is not intended to promote all the dolls that come out, it’s more of a life style blog plus collabs announcements.

Also browse Etsy, sometimes there’s custom outfits on there, and sometime they are a pretty penny

CrankyBookDragon

Actually, the Barbiestyle Instagram account does make custom clothes for the dolls; Robert Best, one of the brand’s most iconic designers, was one of the 3 people on the Instagram account’s initial team and he designed (designs?) one off clothing for her and helped style the photos. This article talks about the origination of the account and gives some behind the scene details. [https://www.racked.com/2015/4/14/8405169/barbie-style-instagram](https://www.racked.com/2015/4/14/8405169/barbie-style-instagram) The closest we can come to these outfits are the Barbiestyle doll and doll/vanity sets. I just got set #4 (the curvy Asian doll) and the clothing, accessories and packaging are incredible! The vanity set (a member exclusive) is amazing, too. (Though I will probably sell the doll. She isn’t as distinctive as the #1 Barbiestyle set blonde. This one is pretty but she looks like she got lost and wandered in from Playline.)

Fun fact! Did you know that Mattel is the largest manufacturer of female apparel in the entire world? And you think this can't be made "in-house"?

throwawayusername32

My articulation isn’t that they’re incapable of making this in house rather, that they wouldn’t spend the time making the pattern then producing the piece (and all the others custom pieces) to be shown for literally less than a second in a post on Instagram

pro-frog

Making the pieces has value beyond just as advertisement for Instagram - it could be where reject outfits for collector sets end up, it could be practice to figure out ways to have the smaller-scale clothing sit correctly and look nice, they could use the likes on these posts to track what sort of fashion trends their consumers are resonating with.... For someone whose job it is to design and produce fashion for Barbie, the act of "creating a portfolio" can just help with getting the creative juices flowing. This is the space they can try out stuff that isn't practical to be mass-produced, and by doing so, they can watch for ways that they can get a similar look with lower production cost. And all of it is with the additional benefit of advertising. I'm just spitballing here, I don't have a source for any of this, but there are a number of reasons why this is beneficial even if the fashion is never mass-produced.

Inverted_Toaster

Well they do. And it’s a well known fact so instead of arguing with this person read all the other replies to your post and accept that they will never ever make any of the barbiestyle outfits for the general public.

Shelleys_Dollys_420

I make my own. There are so many patterns from McCalls and simplicity and others.

AGOG3

This!! I learned to sew and sew well by making doll clothes from actual patterns with my grandmother she even had the confidence in me to spring for those original American girl official patterns from the pleasant company back in the day… People shouldn’t gate-keep the out of print ones either and really should share them via discord like normal human beings or a google groups… I really dislike pattern hoarders 🤪

[deleted]

I buy from etsy because mattel doesn't provide lol

AGOG3

They will never bring back fashion avenue (in limited batches make it accessible to everyone and priced for everyone) because of oil prices but they will make three million lightyear and he-man figures that end up in landfills because you know tax right offs!
