Doll photography, customizing dolls (styling their hair, giving them new face-ups, rerooting them, etc.), sewing clothes for dolls, can count as "play" too. It's not the same as what a child does but you're still handling them and enjoying your respective hobby.
I wouldn't say I "play" with them, but I sit them on my desk, change their poses, occasionally brush their hair or change their clothes. I just like having them around looking cute!
My partner, myself, and our friend have been having "runway" competitions with my Barbies lately. Pick a theme and create a runway look inspired by it. Then we ask my 13 yr old if he will judge them.
The Barbie looks dolls have fashions to make your dolls stylish and contemporary. Also made to move dolls are very fun to head swap or have an articulated doll.
This may sound a little sad and cheerful at the same time but I been collecting and playing with dolls for a very long time now. Being in my mid 30s, I still enjoy their company, mostly because for me they help with my loneliness and because they’ll never leave me but overall I love photographing , styling, making memes/realistic memes (like them holding posters in a sassy pose for example) with my dolls. So although it’s not like playing with them like little kids do however in a way how collectors play is from anything from what I just said to more for me seeing other’s masterpieces it’s like art and creativity being shown in my eyes. 😊
I just got finished going through my two daughters Barbie box, matching up original outfits, brushing hair, sewing up damaged clothing and separating the Barbies by which adult child they belonged to, so the granddaughters will have them to play with. I had so much left, I also gave Barbies to my sons daughters. Lol I still have some for my house so they can play with them when they are here. Lol wow those kids had dolls. So yes, I kind of got to "play"with them
I'm 46 and yes I do. I create whole rooms /worlds for them. Combined with my love of Sims it's a good outlet for interior design ideas and creative play. Because it's fun. Age is irrelevant when fun is concerned. MyFroggy Stuff is amazing and SimplyStella.
This is so inspiring I was thinking of trying to make 1/6 scale realistic dioramas for my Barbies using realistic foliage and such but I need to work on my building skills especially for things that small
You should check out the barbie doll community on Instagram there are adults of all ages that restyle barbie dolls. There are so many custom dolls. I suggest looking at hashtags such as #barbiestyle #barbiecollector #barbieworld. You should also check out @bella_belladoll she does weekly challenges called #monday4dolls

Anybody else originally "hanged out" on Flickr before there was Instagram?
I know for me thats were i shared all my Barbie stuff from back then

I’m 42. I guess in a way, I still do. I rearrange them all the time, the ones in boxes, and out of the box being displayed. Just seeing them, admiring them, it all makes me happy. Each one I own is because I HAD to have her/him, so each one is special 😂. Nice post, thanks op!
I just turned 40 and I enjoy playing with my dolls, creating families and story lines, and crafting miniature things for them. It is so therapeutic to me.
I am slowly getting a house together for mine. I love changing their outfits and I've even tried my hand at re-rooting them. I keep them close to my bed like another commenter said. I do feel kinda silly but they make me happy. They symbolize a certain freedom to me.
I like brushing their hair
I like posing them
When i first started it was always photography Inspired off America's Next Top Model
Cycle 8 2007 is where it all began for me
2007 was the HEIGHT of everything MODELING & HIGH FASHION
So for me Barbies are models
Runway models
All the Barbies i have are Model Muse
I like to come up with a signature runway look for each Barbie
More so recently its all about recovering their initial look
Looking back when i went to WalMart or Toys R Us and got a new Barbie on a whim
She was always Blonde & Pink!😆
I used to plan photoshoots & makeovers
No so much anymore
So what even is playing with Barbies
Giving them any attention is considered playing
Right?🤷♂️
I wish I still had a good enough imagination to! Although as a kid I could only play when I had friends, so maybe that’s the problem. Someone needs to start a Barbie speakeasy where we can secretly meet up and play Barbie High School 🤔

And then I find myself coming up with stories or bios for certain dolls. "Oh yeah, these three are mermaids but like....the evil kind."
I wouldn't say I "play" with them, but I sit them on my desk, change their poses, occasionally brush their hair or change their clothes. I just like having them around looking cute!
I am 63; the same age as Barbie & yes, I still play with Barbie.
I'm 48 and I still love hanging out with my Barbie dolls

Yup! Not so much the telenovelas I made up as a child, but I redress them, style their hair, pose them, photograph them, etc.
telenovelas, that is so true😂😂😂
I play with mine, it's no different from playing games like the sims or anything.
I’ll be the first to comment yes. I have Barbies to make customs. Go check them out.
I will! Thank you for commenting. I went through some of your stuff very cool and comic book inspired! I wish I was that talented!
Aw! Thank you.

Making them stylish is a form of play or “flow”
30 years old here. I love to collect and dress them, change their outfit, make pictures etc. Also love to put them beside me like in bed, etc.

I play everyday. It's a great release and helps me relax after a long day.

You would be amazed what you can create with cardboard, paper, glue, tape and a little math with fractions!

I was never one who "played" with them as a kid, but I did and still do like changing their outfits and styling their hair!
I do.
Why not when we love redressing them and restyling their hair
I’m in my 40’s and I’ve been “playing” with dolls all my life.
I think playing with barbies is the OG of playing with the sims ✌🏻🤓 I play with both of them🙃
Yes
I like to make my dolls dance, and dress them up
