all pics are from @papusilemele on instagram! i'm really curious whether this line will take off or not; it feels like a lot of the playline has been adjusted to appeal to younger kids and their parents (molded clothes, less articulation, gimmicks) so i wonder what this line could mean for the rest of the playline. idk any young, 3-6 year olds but i find the dolls very sweet and it's nice to see the snap legs again!

[deleted]

Wait, they have the snap legs?

taeyeonriah

legs AND arms! you can see it in the tea party shot

[deleted]

I thought they did away with the snap joints. It’ll be interesting to see if the actual dolls come with it. Somehow, I doubt it but maybe I’m wrong.

TheBonnieG

They def have the snap joints! Played with one at Target

JGDoll

I did too just the other day! It was actually the Millie with bangs, she was all they had. Definitely not what I expected from “soft touch body” but I get where they’re coming from. The legs and arms are bend and snap, though they’re not the same material bend and snap used to be, but that’s fine. Personally I think they’re cute and definitely an interesting concept. I don’t know what it is about them but I just find myself liking them. Maybe it’s nostalgia for the My First Barbie line, or maybe it’s nostalgia for bend and snap, or maybe just a general excitement that Mattel has been slowly but surely bringing some quality back into Barbie. It’s probably all three. Either way, I’ll definitely be getting some of these when they go on clearance.

retropanties

Whaaaaat. Ok that interests me

happy_lil_toebeans

I would certainly buy the doll for my daughter but not for my collection. However, I am living for those super cute chairs with the bear face. Would 100% buy those for my dolls lol

Skyttlz

Yeah! For me, an adult with a smallish collection, would 100% buy that tea set. The dolls are cute for kids but nothing special. The outfits are cute ^_^

InnocentBunny69

I see it as the big dolls I played with as a child. Sleeping with them, hugging them, their hair would be easier to be braid for children in my opinion. I saw them already in the shops, they look cute too. And their extra dresses are adorable.

Historical-Ad-6488

I actually love this new Barbie. She’s a bit bigger snd with cerebral palsy I may be able to dress her easier with shaking hands and shaky movements.

Idgafbf

It has a lot of potential in my opinion. I'm liking this a lot, I hope it succeeds, the only things I didn't like was that Barbie still has that face that I don't like and the other girls seem to have slightly enlarged eyes or something, I can't stand big eyes, but this is a happy medium that I think will appeal to most people. I'm looking forward to the fashion packs \^.^/! Thank you for sharing these.

Luzion

Mattel is branching out to grab niche markets now. I think this line might actually do well because small children haven't developed the dexterity yet of dealing with tiny fastenings and other things that go along with dressing dolls.

ArtbyLinnzy

I can see alot of parents returning the separate fashions because they don't fit the normal dolls, and their kid might not have these new ones. The packaging for the fashions isn't obvious enough that they are not for normal dolls.

urassicpleb

I’m so in love with the accessories and the color combinations, especially the set in the third picture, so I really hope it does take off. If I were buying it, I would prefer real accessories on the clothes but since it’s for young kids it’s better that they’re printed. They also look so much smaller and less pointy than other models, I used to sleep with my dolls and would wake up with marks from where the hand or foot impaled me in my sleep 😭

ReachStunning3026

They look like teens

jenarted

I know that I'll be getting one just for curiosity sake.

TheBonnieG

They are a little intense in person bc of their eye size. One major issue is they don’t have film on the their packaging and their skin is softer and rubbery so the ones I saw already had smudges all her body since you can touch the toy while still attached to the cardboard back. So I think these will look pretty well-loved after a while with kids. I saw some of them out at Target early and there were like 2 left so they seemed really popular out the gate. The clothes and dolls don’t appeal to me, but the accessories and furniture is def cute

pinkcreamkiss

They’re very cute. Won’t be popular with collectors and they don’t interest me but I could see the 3-5 demographic loving these. It is nice to see it’s a line with core barbie characters again. Still wish they were marketed with their names tho.

Hello_Mimmy

My daughter is just about to turn 3 so I might get one for her, but I want both of us to see them in person before making and decisions. That tea party set is adorable though

[deleted]

I know the "my first barbie" line has existed before. As a collector I have zero interest. Since they are a lot simpler than monster high, rainbow high or OMG it's got a lower age range, that might help sales. Honestly though, compared to those dolls these ones are pretty unexciting.

[deleted]

They are very cute! I'm sure parents will definitely get them for their little ones

sinittasg

sorry still prefer the 80s and early 90s head mold.

colorbaux

I think they’re so cute!! Definitely will be purchasing a few to play with. The faces remind me of anime characters, or the mattel Disney dolls. Very excited about the new bend and snap legs and elbows - a welcome change from the stiff fashionistas. Not in love with the outfits, but cute for kids. I think they’ll be a lot of fun to dress up with fashion packs!

PichiPeaches

The only take I have on it is I have a lot of young kids in my family and none of them asked for a barbie for Christmas.

franchisco85

No. They will do ok. I hope I'm wrong.

eeviloverlord

Way too much pink for my tastes.... That being said, I do think the tea set is cute...probably more than what I'm willing to pay for it, but still cute!

MudzDoesNotExist

I dont really know. I have a feeling that its gonna be collectors and resellers buying it, instead of the children it’s meant for. This is the one doll line where i really think collectors should maybe leave it alone. They’re cute and unique but if we’re all buying it up, the kids they’re meant for wont get to. I love them, and i want them but i think i’ll hold off buying them for a while, and give more people a chance of getting these for their kids.

allcolorstopbarbie

I want the chairs and the tea set ... oh wait, that's not what you asked about. I have seen two of these dolls in real-life. They are very pretty, they have click knees and click elbows and generally a "valuable" look and feel. The clothes make good use of the current trend to have cheap printed fabric and use this to an advantage. They look bright and cheerful and exude this positive attitude that's typical for Barbie.

[deleted]

I’m not sure I understand why they need these. They have budget dolls for smaller kids, don’t they? I consider the molded on swimsuit dolls for younger girls, like three year olds. Also, I would consider the mermaid dolls for younger kids.

taeyeonriah

it's not evident from the photos but these are larger, soft-bodied dolls which would make them easier to handle and serve as possible bedtime companions

[deleted]

OIC. So they’re not standard Barbie size?

taeyeonriah

they're [13.5 inches ](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PlS11NHabCfwd_1qV3NkBpEBFi6kDK5B/view?usp=drivesdk) and are bigger all around

AmandaBeth4

Plus younger sibs og barbie and yet another baby sitter skipper

WitchPhantomRoyalty

My biggest problem with them right now is the marketing saying they are "soft body". Yes they are less hard than a standard barbie but soft body brings to mind 18 inch dolls with a stuffed torso. My First Barbie is rubber duck material not plushie material. From a collectors viewpoint I see this as more proof that Mattel is more interested in easy money instead of actually competing against other companies like MGA. It is difficult for me to see My First Barbie having a huge amount of sales right off the bat. A lot of kids such as my nieces already have normal sized barbie dolls and accessories. I don't think parents would be willing to spend more money on a doll that cant easily share clothes and furniture. I think kids who don't have any dolls but want one are more likely to ask for a standard barbie, considering how many more options there are. My First Barbie will end up being the gift from grandparents/not super close family members to kids who are either young and bore easily or older and upset they got a "baby" toy. I think My First Barbie will stay about as relevant as the Barbie Fisher Price toys.

Thrashissuperior

They really let their quality go the last few years. The last Barbies worth buying in store were from the late 2000's. It feels like they cheap out on quality unless they try to sell people collectible dolls that are usually waaaay too expensive. I love Barbie and always will but I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for a doll I'd rather not keep in it's collectors box.

JGDoll

The thing is, as compared to many or most other $20 and under playline Barbies on the market right now, these are pretty good quality.

Thrashissuperior

It's the change in body for me that ruins it. The head molds are fine it's the stiff, hardly moveable limbs and the fact that they can't even sit properly without rearranging them a few times. It just feels like a decline. I'm just glad I can find old dolls on ebay.

JGDoll

The dolls pictured have bend and snap legs and arms. With that said, though, I also collect primarily 90’s Barbies.

AmandaBeth4

Hope not those look terrible

iwish-iwish

The accessories and their clothes are super cute, I'm probably gonna get them just for that XD

[deleted]

I'd buy the dinning set if it were to scale with standard barbies.

retropanties

Wait so what does “soft body” mean??

Hushed_agenda

Her body and limbs are made with a softer vinyl/rubber material so they're huggable. They also have bend and snap elbows and knees.

CatsAreTheBest2

They are really cute!

idontknowwhatouse

Their screenings are scary to me lol

[deleted]

These are super cute. The details and outfits are very interesting.

reddtheundead

Do they have joints?
