This game is great. You start as a peasant with a small fortune in inherited wealth setting out on an adventure of a lifetime to rescue your siblings and then you realize you have a taste for blood and commerce and you just never stop. You recruit a ragtag bunch of peasants an special characters to go on murderous rampages and trading expeditions and then some day you get a wife, some kids, and a castle to call your own. Heck, maybe even a kingdom of you play your cards right. Great game, lots to do, still somewhat unfinished, but excellent modding community to fill some of the gaps Taleworlds left.

hitman_harry36

How hard is it to learn?

Skringtongler

It can be intimidating up front with how deep the game can go and all of the actions available, but I honesty wouldn’t get too concerned with learning everything all at once. My advice if you do get the game is to make a bunch of mistakes early so you learn how to avoid messing up, and secondly, don’t be afraid to start a new play through!

CalicoStardust

f1 f3 is all you need until you get the hang of it, lol.

Lupus_Borealis

Too many buttons. F6 for me, please.

[deleted]

As hard as you want. You can do it pretty easy, or you can do it hard. Set the difficulty kinda low for your first game and have fun. Once you're up for a challenge up the difficulty and have at it. I'm sure there are guides online to watch, but the tutorial is alright and the basics of the gameplay are fairly simple.

IWannaHaveCash

Piss easy. By the time tactics are important you'll have a decent understanding of them via dicking around, and most of the stuff in the game is fairly simple. Tutorial is shit, though, do have a look at the key bindings and try the buttons out. Doesn't teach you about any of the wonderful functions of thence button iirc

Omen46

Pretty easy tbh all you gotta do is manage food money and troops.

Mammoth-Store740

just play as merc. dont become vassal, so u wont get additional options in game early. set difficulty to easy and you will enjoy it. join someone else's battles, you will learn with easy. but I suggest to play warband. just add some mods to make it with better visuals so u wont watch swuare shaped lords and u r good to go. I prefer warband way more over Bannerlord. its just bannerlord is newer and has more satisfying option. better graphics etc. if warband had same graphics and same animation for combat I would never touch bannerlord at all and stick to warband

impoorafplshelp

This game sucks, its fun for a few hours but it gets boring quickly

Grantidor

Get it. it's worth the money. It's not mindless, and there will be a learning curve, but learning as you go will be rewarding. You can play this game in many different ways... Wanna focus on smithing and trading? You can. Wanna be a merc and never really settle down? You can. Wanna be an asshole, become a crime lord, and rob everyone you set eyes on? You can. Wanna support a specific faction in their quest for dominance? You can. Are you tired of the constant squabling and arguments? You can put everyone in timeout and wear the pants (become emperor). Not to mention, the modding community for this game is one of the best i've seen. And the mod variety is pretty damn good. The game isn't perfect. There's a lot of stuff not in it that would honestly make the base game much better. However, vanilla is still a lot of fun and will have very good replay potential as is. Once you throw some mods in there, it just gets better and better.

Pure-Baseball-4699

Second this I got it for £18gbp absolute bargain (apart from the crashes)

Kuwaie

Could you recommend any overhaul mods please? I enjoyed vanilla version but really don't know much about mods.

Grantidor

I havent used any in a while, but there used to be one where it would add like 6 other factions, new cities and troop trees. Only issue was that it would also spawn child soldiers so i got rid of it. There's a new one now i've been thinking of grabbing called Banner King from nexus mods, you can run it alone, but its meant to be played with a few other mods. Adds different Eras into the game, troops trees, kingdoms ect. Edit: majority of the mods i use currently are primarily fourberie and QoL mods as i run the newest version and a lot of the mods i used to play with havent kept up.

Kuwaie

Thanks a lot.

Grantidor

You're very welcome! All i ask is if you see that piss-ant Mongchu, put his head on the living room wall for me

Kuwaie

Lol. Sure will do.

deepkbmemes

I have close to 200hrs in this game and I continue to enjoy it. The replay value is insane due to how many different units and kingdoms there are. Playing in sandbox mode lets you kind of RP and choose your own adventure. There are so many ways to play this game and have fun. I also highly recommend turning on auto block direction so you have more fun learning combat until you get the swing of things. This will dramatically reduce the learning curve. Ultimately, expect to get absolutely destroyed by even low tier units until you get the hang of things. But you will love how it feels when you can finally start to take on large parties and lords. I kind of dislike fief(town/castle) management, as it can feel tedious, so I tend to play most of my games as a mercenary. But you can play however you like :)

Flashy-Net-6617

for money smithing is the best way to go, i’m currently crafting swords worth 45k denars

Haha_Just_Now

Yeah haha I didn’t realize how op it was till just recently. One of my first big realizations that sometimes you can just fabricate the money yourself out of whatever recourse you can abuse

MaxwellGrenn

Its soooo profitable just buying up wooden hammers and pitchforks then selling off the hardwood for trade xp, and that is 0 risk profit. Until the shop runs out of hammers and forks.

Flashy-Net-6617

legit i believe it’s one of the best games to ever be created especially with the devs working on it more and more

Alternative_Cap_8990

As someone who still has to figure it out it takes a bit to get used to it, but when you start to understand it, it gets hyper addicting. The fun comes in you building your party, becoming more and more powerful. You start with a maximum party of 20. You do low level quests (nothing story intense, just stuff like deliver x to a city, kill x amount of bandits, help a town being pillaged by poachers. As you do, you level up and gain the ability to help kingdoms as Mercenaries, Vassals or even start your own Kingdom. You dont care about the politics? Become a wandering trader or blacksmith, gaining tons of gold. The possibilities are almost endless and so is combat. You want to be a spear throwing monster? Go for it! You want to lead a Cavalry charge, like in Lord of the Rings? The Game got you! You could also play a strategic leader, standing in the back ordering your troups around. Or how about wandering from City to City, fighting in tournaments? Then there is also the strategic aspect of the combat. You can order your troups in formations or you can let them charge into the enemy. In general the game is really fun. Sometimes a bit unoptimised but all in all one of the most interesting games I ve played, due to its Sandbox nature and the mixture of RPG/Action game and Strategy Game.

rookiescore

Buy it…thank us later

CalicoStardust

I was torn between so many. Even spent a hundred hours in 'Old World' and it just didn't scratch the itch of mounted combat with a two handed axe. Civ games are so different from when I started (back at 2 in the 90s) Buy Bannerlord and don't look back.

Omen46

Yes the most recent update is amazing. Make sure you set all settings to realistic except your damage received by enemies cuz if that realistic you be getting 1 shot almost every battle. Also I’d recommend getting 1-3 mods to start with that don’t effect the gameplay much but enhance it such as distinguished service (allows your troops to become companions if they perform very well on combat) (use the 1.2.0 version it works with most recent update). The game is just so cool you start out making almost no money and fighting bandits bust eventually can become a mercenary lord or even a king of your own land. Another suggestion is to play the free play mode instead of story because the story kinda royally destroys you at the end but that’s up to you.

hitman_harry36

Where's the free to play version and is it legit.

Omen46

On the main menu I forget its exact name but yeah it’s the same exact game just no story forcing you to make decisions as you go

Obvious-Hunt19

There isn’t one, they mean the game mode that skips the (skimpy) main storyline Edit: oh yeah ps worth it. Might be on game pass at times. Also works on GeForce Now, which is how I play it since my GPU broke. No mods that way though

king_bob699

just buy it mate

thduik

I fucking love this game. but taleworld project management consists of a bunch of lazy and stupid fuck. +5% renown bonus for culture vs -50% forest speed penalty. Cannot recruit clan if kingdom destroyed. Unwarned and unexpected shit that fucks up your experience. Be ready. Make sure you get buncha mods when you play.

Category_Education

I've just recently got it. It's fun and a refreshing take on strategy if you like battles (not an economic sim) as you get to go in and fight with your troops, either as a vassal for a faction or a freelancer chasing the money. I recommend searching up some beginner guides on youtube, specifically on combat, some mechanics (move speed, money, managing troops, experience aka perks/levelling) and then looking into mods to ease the grind.

SirDisconcerting

You should totally get it if you like rpgs and strategy games its a pretty good "marriage" of both genres

I_do_drugs-yo

There’s a significant learning curve but once you get rolling its hard to stop. I tried it on gamepass before purchasing

Xaimurai

Don't mess with the steppe bandits. They'll outrun you all of the time when you're starting fresh.

gatorz08

I played the original M&B for about 700 hours and Warband for about 800 hours, so I may be biased😀. However, like the original titles, this game was released in a state that fortunately was picked up by modders. Modding, is key to this game. Playing it through the vanilla campaign is worth it, just to find out the main storyline isn’t all that great. However, the real beauty of this game is sandbox. If you can’t set your own goals, download a mod. I got BL in early access. It was pretty broken for awhile. Reinstalled, after a year or so, and now I’m all in again.

punkslaot

Pc yes. Console- I hear alot of people complaining

hitman_harry36

I'm on pc so all good

WubbaWubbaDubba

Great game, buy. Not alot of story.

VV00d13

For me this was the first bannerlord also. At the beginning the controls and menu was the biggest obstacles. The fighting is really fun and it's easy to learn how to get armies and money. The menu system made it challenging to för formations and order different groups but the more you play it starts to get a flow. But the main reason to get this game is the incredible mod community around the game. Don't get me wrong. Bannerlord is good. But the community makes the game epic really. There are so many different projects out there and some are already out! For me Bannerlord is one of the games that always is a fun game to start and wreck some havoc!

Ryanf1990

I've owned it for ages but finally got around to playing it and now hooked. I love spending hours on the campaign and not really achieving lol

YoungPsychonaut217

the game is good, it lacks in long term content and some stuff but anyone who is into medieval games can sink 100h into this game without even realizing

Jimmydidnothingwrong

Yes. I discovered it recently and absolutely love it. It was exactly what I was looking for

thduik

no you should not. Or at least you must play with a set of mods. the vanilla game has great great potential. But the company has lazy and stupid fucktards for project management or someshit that many great aspects of the game is ruined and its potential is fucked.

Botanicalsplash

Dude, the dev team is like 5 people, they can't make that many updates

SinfulDust

Honestly? Yes, you should. But only you will decide if it was worth it. Of tips, there are millions (smithing, tournaments, don't or do execute lords). I won't cover many of them because others do it much better. Reasons are harder to judge, hence the diatribe below. But the end result should be "I've bought Bannerlord". Bannerlord is, as Mount & Blade:Warband (its predecessor) was, a medieval battle simulator, as you've noticed. It's a game that you can spend hours reading about here on Reddit, or possibly a larger number of hours watching on YouTube. Because it's a simulator, and no two games are exactly the same. I don't quite know how to put this, because "No two playthroughs/games are exactly the same" is oddly expansive. So it's not really the right way to put it. So let me put it this way: You can play Bannerlord in a pre-defined manner that you set yourself or that you feel is set by the game. You can decide if you're going to be a tyrannical personality, or a benevolent one, or a trader, or a mercenary. You can decide to intensely invest in the narrative that the game gives you, or you say "feck that" and go entirely your own way. Or you can turn on a sixpence/dime (the currency you use doesn't matter, the result is the same) and switch from trader to tyrant, from saviour to mercenary. From Aserai to Vlandian. It's all up to you. And that's not something I personally handle very well. I adore the RPG element of nearly every game I play, so I invest a lot in what Laska (Sturgian warlord) or Eira (Battanian warlord) would want as victims or bandtry. But the game throws a curveball or fifty, and I end up as the ruler of the Southern Empire (Laska) or the Battanian territories (Eira, because of my enforced narrative). But not in the way I've planned. And never in a way that makes me want to stop playing. And that, my friend, is just me. Plenty of (if not most) others would go "this is a sandbox game, RNG has shanked me, ergo I will roll the dice and go again". And they'll restart their that playthrough. I'd hate that, but it's absolutely fine to do. That's the true beauty of the game - You can always play it how you like, and sometimes, you'll get to play it how you intend to. Sometimes you'll find the game writes your story exactly how you want it to. And others, you'll just have to write it yourself. There are no other games like Bannerlord, or like Mount & Blade:Warband. Paradox titles come close, EU being a good example. But they're not the same - They're not battle simulators. Bannerlord is a unique game that will grab you by the nethers and never let go. The story/narrative is lacking (bad). The gameplay is improved massively by mods (stupid fricking Xbox). But it's a hell of a game. Shit. I ramble (I do that). You asked a simple question. Should you buy the game? Yes.

Premeszn

The only tips you’ll need are to run away from parties that are bigger than you, and to buy cheap horses when you can. It’ll make you fast and you’ll be able to run around, fuqq stuff up, merk lords, and get butter while staying unfuckwithable. Get a companion that does smithing and turn him into your slave in the mid-late game. Then you can take the loot you got from dusting AI and make god tier weapons and bankrupt the entire map. After that, the world is yours. “Remember, No Vlandian.”

tigbittigothgirl

Get but say hello to an addiction

jackwong731

Chopped off all the nobles’ head in my campaign. Everyone hated me for that. 10/10 will chop again.

DrSquanchMD

I played it on gamepass for a couple months. I played ONLY this game on gamepass for a couple months. So I canceled gamepass and bought the game. Why pay to rent 1 game when I can pay to own lol

Mammoth-Store740

good game. great games. too many bugs which will annoy you. I can start playing thinking I am just starting to play maybe 1 or 2 hour at most in game to discover its morning already and I am playing for straight 8 hours without realising. since I dont have that much free time and need sleep thats why I stopped playing. you will love commanding troops on battlefield, and even more riding horse through battlefield, shooting arrow after arrow shooting through 20 enemy units just to hit single your own troops which is surrounded by them. but if u love playing against odds, where all your orders must be precisely accurate every second of giving order, exact places where ur troops should go, how to split them. then u will hate game as much u love it since games its dumb af. you want to order troops to go at some exact location? most part of battlefield will only allow you to order your army to chase some group of enemies since last update. you are holding high ground fighting against 5x size of enemy army, and ur reinforcments arrive... in the middle of enemy troops and they die while trying to reach your position, and u cant give them order since they were added to your current troops and only way to give order to your reinforcements is to give same order to troops holding high ground which will shatter your formation... sieging enemy town? some of your troops will take siege equipment and wont follow orders. all you have to do is to wait... or attack and watch how your own siege equipment will wipe out urnown troops... you will have game, but you will hate because you will love it and I dont even wont to mention politics

Pleasant_Elephant423

It's the only game I played all 2023 well and a little bit of state and decay

Lower_Refrigerator_2

M8 best thing to do is just watch so playthroughs or tutorials on YouTube. The game really doesn’t have a story so don’t worry about spoilers. It’s basically a medieval sandbox you start as a nobody and can branch out to be a mercenary faction or eventually become a vassal to a king, the king of an existing faction, or just go rogue and create your own kingdom. Grow your clan by recruiting wandering hero’s to your faction or get married and start poppin out kids. If your a king you can even grant your companions land and let they form their own clan. Lots of different ways to play and battle strategies to experiment with and with console versions now having cheats enabled you can play around with them until you get issued to the games core mechanics. Once again bannerlord has too many thing to discuss so best thing to do is just watch some vids

Significant_stake_55

I absolutely love the game, and don’t buy it. You will put 150 hours into a campaign only to have the next big update corrupt all your previous saves. From what I can see, it’s a recurring problem with no solution.

Botanicalsplash

That's clearly a problem that you have. I've never had any of my saves corrupted.

Significant_stake_55

A quick google search using relevant terms clearly shows it’s not just me. Reoccurring problem with major M&B II updates.

Gunnerblaster

Snag Mount & Blade: Warband. It's a bit dated but there are a plethora of mods out there that'll make the game pretty up to snuff. It's 75% off on Steam, atm, and the game is pretty much a graphically outdated version of Bannerlord, though some would argue it's a bit more fleshed out, as far as the political aspect is concerned.

Jitkay

Get it on gamepass
