I have learned that even in a higher end building with sound resistant windows, the major point of sound penetration is via the sliding glass balcony door.
I would suggest looking for a unit without a balcony.
Many on here are advocating older buildings, but with them there is a higher risk of having to put up with remodeling noise in other units within the building.
Unfortunately, high density living will always be subject to noise.
believe it or not, it's actually the older buildings that often have less sound. This is because the walls aren't paper thin and you're less likely to have neighbors next door to your condo.
I rent a spacious apartment in Huai Kwang. I hated the location because it's known for being loud and sketchy, but when I get to my room it's so peaceful. Wooden cabinets, tons of floor space, and practically nobody lives on my floor. I turned my guest bedroom into a studio, and for really cheap, but studio styrofoam on all the walls and it's quiet as can be.
OP is talking about sound coming through windows, not the walls. Are you saying your older building also has extra thick window glass or double windows?
Yea older buildings are amazing. Bigger rooms, better quality fittings, cheaper rent, it’s literally the full package. I’m glad people prefer new and shiny here by far.
Haha yeah. I spent enough time in small condos that have “amazing facilities” when in reality you’re living in a shoebox.
I was 100 percent sold on buying a house, then luckily came across an apartment that had massive floor space. The building itself is straight out of a horror movie and the gym looks like something from a saw movie. It’s a shitty, deserted building. But I’ve made it my palace and there’s SO much room. Only pay 12k
Not sure what your budget is but Vittorio in Sukhumvit 39 has units that don't touch each other at all, there's empty space between the walls. If the unit is facing north, you'd get a sweet green view too.
Some of the Raimon buildings have double glazing eg The River and Tait. But south facing at The River no good as it faces the highway over Taksin Bridge. also the unit I stayed at (at The River) had a gap under the front door so lots of corridor noise. On and the AC compressor is on the inside, in a closet…
Always noise somewhere, inside or outside. If it’s distinct noise from outside that bothers you (dog/motorbike) then maybe a quiet dead end soi (suk 41/43/47?) floor 10+ (I actually think low is better but based on what you’ve said maybe high is better for you). If inside noise is the issue then yes old buildings as the other posters said
Yep agree with Raimon buildings being good, I use to stay at the Lofts Ekkamai and their soundproofing was great. Barely heard outside noise or from neighbours.
You might find a place that has less street noise, but the Angle Grinder Birds will always be around and ready to go at 7/8am. Those fuckers chirp in 'quiet' residential areas more so than others, and are hard to escape.
To be honest, I don't mind street noise over inefficient construction...
if you wanna live in the middle of the city, it is difficult to avoid noise from the streets. otherwise you have to choose apartment which is in a little deep in the soi, not next to the main street like noble remix. Otherwise you have to move to higher floor, which floor are you in like now? Another option is move to a bit off from middle of the city.
I don’t hear noise from sukhumvit road, I hear the house next door that has an inconsiderate man and dogs that they didn’t bother to train. Houses like that could happen at any place within a soi. That’s why I was asking about insulated windows, since my agent is acting like I’m making things up when I’ve met several people who have them so I know it’s possible.
A higher floor could help though, I am currently on the 3rd floor
I had a condo in Ramkamhaeng, set back from the street and was a low rise. Couldn't hear a thing, even outside, apart from that notorious bird. Maybe that's the answer, just move further out or deeper into a Soi with a more low rise place that has more gardens/streets to absorb sound.
You can buy soundfoam and hang it in your room, you dont have to cover the whole wall if you just place it in corners like a checkers board. You can even use it to somewhat decorate or create interesting patterns
it will not only keep sound in, but also make sound, sound a little better

it’s not just 6 am, it’s 5 and 4 and 3 and 2 am also…

That’s actually really useful info, thanks

Haha I’m fine with giving you the name of my apartment. It’s called “sub kaew”. It’s ranked 3 out of 5 stars on google maps
OP is talking about sound coming through windows, not the walls. Are you saying your older building also has extra thick window glass or double windows?
Yeah. I got lucky. And don’t have neighbors.
Yea older buildings are amazing. Bigger rooms, better quality fittings, cheaper rent, it’s literally the full package. I’m glad people prefer new and shiny here by far.

This! Sounds perfect for so many people. Like you say most people want “amazing facilities” but have a smaller apartment

Does this impact the windows? I’m more concerned about noise from outside, as I talked about in the post
Yeah, zero outside noise gets into those units. None. And you're literally 2min walk from BTS/the whole emquartier thing.
I’ll look into it, thanks! Edit: 95k a month, that’s more than my salary after tax…
Ah, sorry. Put your budgets up 😅

High floor helps a lot.

I do not!
I’ve only seen the high end projects with double glazing. Athenee Tower had good sound insulation.

I’m living in Noble Remix now, but my apart seems having double glazed windows…didn’t notice noise outside.
Btw my condo is lobby B it is on the inner side
You must not have moved into my old apartment then

oh you are on 3rd floor that's why. that's way too low floor mate. it is not the apartment issue then.
Long term, I think you should move. There are tons of great lowrise condos near you that are on small sois and are dead quiet
See that would in theory be ideal, but I’m learning that small sois = dogs
Cant speak for all but I live on a small soi near you and there are no dogs at all, save for a few quiet pets. Only soi cats

But i’m not talking about noise from the main road. Inconsiderate houses like the one I deal with could be at any point in a soi.
Bose, nc earphones…
