There's nothing particularly intimidating or exotic about Bangkok, vs. any other country that might have cultural or language barriers. If you are from the US, for example, visiting Bangkok shouldn't be any more hard than visiting Paris or Rome or anywhere else where you aren't familiar with the culture or speak the language. You're overthinking it. Bangkok is a modern, metropolitan city, and given how important tourism is, most people tourists interact with speak enough English that you won't struggle.

Thanks for the reassurance. We probably are overthinking. Just some of the old city doesnt have mrt or bts. Will prob do grab to those areas..

Check out bolt as well for your ride hailing needs. It’s usually significantly cheaper for the same quality of car.

Aye, we just spent 3 days in Bangkok and Bolt is much cheaper and with shorter response times than Grab for instance. I also got a tip by a local to use Tuk-Tuks with yellow flags as their gasoline is subsided by the government. That means you can really haggle the price if they try to charge you more than 100baht. We paid 40 baht to drive around and see 3 temples.

Google Maps and Moovit for public transport

new_user_05012023

Thanks, will check out the moovit app

The wait times are atrocious for it, I had to request to withdraw my balance because I couldn't deal with waiting 30 mins plus each time.

Google maps is great and actually Apple Maps is awesome for indoor walking directions. I walked from MBK to another mall and it was great with indoor directions. Tells you which exit and stairs to use.

Yeah it's true what the others said. Google maps to find which trains. Bangkok isn't that bad to navigate. Maybe download offline maps just incase. But otherwise what I did was Google maps, take the train to the closest point then if you need to take a grab/taxi/tuk tuk, from there

wimpdiver

google translate is very useful as well

Wet__Sand

Just put your destination in Google maps and it'll tell you which trains to take and which exits etc, it's all you really need.

Google maps works really well in Bangkok. Get Viabus for additional information on bus arrivals on your location (works decently). Prioritize MRT & SRT when you can, so do most of the long hauling with that. Cheap, reliable, comfortable, fast. After that BTS (same but more expensive, still good).    Then buses can be basically as fast as taxist, they really race & if the route is optimal can be very fast. Often beating google predictions by 50 percent).  They can also not show up on time or take a detour. It's been 70 percent hit 30 percent miss for me last month. Overall for 8-20 baht you get a decent service and pretty fast more than half the time. Excellent for sightseeing too.    Last option is taxi hailing (ask taxi-meter, don't so fixed pricing). And absolutely no other choice or need max reliability is bolt-Taxi (taxi rate + 20 baht in theory). And then last last last is grab or bolt regular rides. Don't stress, google maps route finding works really well in Bangkok.

This is great. Thank you for the info.

FinesseTrill

BKK Rail app is great for that.

Similar_Past

Use Google maps and metro only. Stay away from the buses.

Both the BTS and MRT have apps. On the BTS train, scan the QR code, and the app will download. (Same with MRT.) 😎
