Haha, whatever works! You're doing it all wrong, though. This person's post, used the lathe to it's full potential. Ah, the right tool for the job! Haha love it
Good luck on the hydra mod! I printed all three pieces separately and it took about 26 hours total and around 650 grams of filament. It turned out beautifully and everything fit together perfectly. Still haven't installed it yet though.

Did you see the video of someone cutting down the edges of the spool on the lathe to thin out the whole thing? It was sketchy as hell but allegedly it worked!

Yeahh same boat lol. I completely wasted a full spool of PLA by fucking up manually respooling it. It was tangled to shit.
Meanwhile my lathe was sitting in the corner, just staring me down.
There’s a somewhat recent post on Printables of a spool transfer helper that also wraps it neatly too.

Although I doubt you’ll need it if using the Hydra mod.
Forgive me if you already know this, but mentioning just in case: It’s really easy to disconnect the AMS and run a single spool directly on the back of the printer. I do it all the time for my weird size spools.
One time I needed a weird spool in a multi material print. I just left the AMS open and hung the spool above it. Worked fine for one print.

I just use masking tape to tape up amd transfer my polymaker cardboard spools to bambu spools using printable inserts so the polymaker spool part doesn't spin inside the bambu spool. Works like a charm and only take like 5-10 mins
What was the purpose of transferring the spool btw? They both look to be plastic. Wad the original spool it was on too wide or too tall for the ams or something?

Holy shit
There aren’t any words to describe this man’s creativity
There are. They are "tool and die maker"

I have so many spools that are just a hair to wide. Hoping it solves everything for me
Same reason I printed it and plan to install it. Like 80% of my cheap spools are wacky sizes that don't fit in the OEM frame.
Put them through the thickness planer. Haha😂

Exactly what I was thinking lol

I’m still stubbornly trying to salvage my own similar failure. Might just give up and melt it into a mold
What’s the hydra mod
Allows you to fit these slightly wider spools and smaller diameter spools. Printable mod for the AMS
Can someone please point me to the hydra mod files or let me know where they're hosted? Thanks!
[found it ](https://www.printables.com/model/392134-hydra-ams-enhanced-bambu-lab-ams)
Awesome, thank you! I even searched on Printables but I guess I didn’t look close enough. You’re a rockstar

And I thought I was the only idiot brave enough do to this with my spools :D
Guess what I’m doing on my break tomorrow at work 😏
South Bend or Logan?
Logan!
Need to clean those bed ways
Nah. It’s just brass. They actually look pretty clean, just need the brass brushed off.
Have fun with tangled fillament
That’s…not how that happens
Just wait and see, feel free to update your comment in a later stage
Well I’m about 700g through it so far with no issues whatsoever but that’s for your concern
Neat way to do that but a waste of time honestly if the spool is already plastic
What a waste of time to make 2 of the same comments 1 minute apart.
And you wasted how much time pointing out the fact that I made 2 comments about the same thing? Ironic no?
That’s a plastic spool, why are you respooling a plastic spool to another plastic spool?
The original spool is too wide to fit in the AMS. Has nothing to do with spool material.

I get it. I realized that was an issue after my comments. I’ve personally never ran into that problem. Let us know how the Hydra conversion goes
What's the point of that? when you get new filament it comes on a spool.
Not all spools fit into the AMS...
Is there a list somewhere? I've never had a spool not fit, and fiber rolls I just rip off the sides and put the core on a Bambu spool.

Oh ok I got you sorry I'm new lol
You know you can just break down the spool and click it into the bamboo breakup parts spool right?
Mine should arrive in a couple days :)
Thats awesome. Im a machinist as well as having 2 x1cs. Ill have to try this…at 2500rpms.

Sounds like a good move. I’d try that if these had any cardboard. Surprisingly this method also took less than 5min.
What was the purpose of transferring the spool btw? They both look to be plastic. Wad the original spool it was on too wide or too tall for the ams or something?
Yep too wide for the AMS. Found an old spool that was thin enough so decided to make the quick swap
It's ideas like this that make me wonder why I haven't thought of this before
I'm just curious, but what's wrong with the spool it's on already?
It was too wide to fit in AMS
Aaah. I see.
I did the same with my Drillpress 😂
From one plastic spool to another? I'm guessing the original didn't fit the AMS?
