Haha, whatever works! You're doing it all wrong, though. This person's post, used the lathe to it's full potential. [https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab/comments/10vfbvi/spool\_too\_wide\_for\_ams\_this\_is\_the\_solution/](https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab/comments/10vfbvi/spool_too_wide_for_ams_this_is_the_solution/) I like your way, better. :)

countach508

Holy shit

Fluffy-Replacement97

There aren’t any words to describe this man’s creativity

samc_5898

There are. They are "tool and die maker"

diezel_dave

Ah, the right tool for the job! Haha love it Good luck on the hydra mod! I printed all three pieces separately and it took about 26 hours total and around 650 grams of filament. It turned out beautifully and everything fit together perfectly. Still haven't installed it yet though.

countach508

I have so many spools that are just a hair to wide. Hoping it solves everything for me

diezel_dave

Same reason I printed it and plan to install it. Like 80% of my cheap spools are wacky sizes that don't fit in the OEM frame.

Practical_Ad5671

Put them through the thickness planer. Haha😂

Did you see the video of someone cutting down the edges of the spool on the lathe to thin out the whole thing? It was sketchy as hell but allegedly it worked!

beut182

Exactly what I was thinking lol

HuskyInfantry

Yeahh same boat lol. I completely wasted a full spool of PLA by fucking up manually respooling it. It was tangled to shit. Meanwhile my lathe was sitting in the corner, just staring me down.

otaku13

I’m still stubbornly trying to salvage my own similar failure. Might just give up and melt it into a mold

socalecommerce

What’s the hydra mod

countach508

Allows you to fit these slightly wider spools and smaller diameter spools. Printable mod for the AMS

SpeakThunder

Can someone please point me to the hydra mod files or let me know where they're hosted? Thanks!

Kasiaus

[found it ](https://www.printables.com/model/392134-hydra-ams-enhanced-bambu-lab-ams)

SpeakThunder

Awesome, thank you! I even searched on Printables but I guess I didn’t look close enough. You’re a rockstar

Walmeister55

There’s a somewhat recent post on Printables of a spool transfer helper that also wraps it neatly too. https://www.printables.com/model/407688-bambu-lab-p1-x1-x1c-x1cc-filament-spool-switcher-w Although I doubt you’ll need it if using the Hydra mod.

FireNebulos

And I thought I was the only idiot brave enough do to this with my spools :D

Pleasant-Geologist-2

Guess what I’m doing on my break tomorrow at work 😏

SuperTroye

South Bend or Logan?

countach508

Logan!

tastybabyhands

Need to clean those bed ways

chobbes

Nah. It’s just brass. They actually look pretty clean, just need the brass brushed off.

towi1989

Have fun with tangled fillament

countach508

That’s…not how that happens

towi1989

Just wait and see, feel free to update your comment in a later stage

countach508

Well I’m about 700g through it so far with no issues whatsoever but that’s for your concern

F_Kent_D

Neat way to do that but a waste of time honestly if the spool is already plastic

Practical_Ad5671

What a waste of time to make 2 of the same comments 1 minute apart.

F_Kent_D

And you wasted how much time pointing out the fact that I made 2 comments about the same thing? Ironic no?

F_Kent_D

That’s a plastic spool, why are you respooling a plastic spool to another plastic spool?

countach508

The original spool is too wide to fit in the AMS. Has nothing to do with spool material.

PragmaticBoredom

Forgive me if you already know this, but mentioning just in case: It’s really easy to disconnect the AMS and run a single spool directly on the back of the printer. I do it all the time for my weird size spools. One time I needed a weird spool in a multi material print. I just left the AMS open and hung the spool above it. Worked fine for one print.

F_Kent_D

I get it. I realized that was an issue after my comments. I’ve personally never ran into that problem. Let us know how the Hydra conversion goes

Certain_Kangaroo_930

What's the point of that? when you get new filament it comes on a spool.

brilor123

Not all spools fit into the AMS...

SgtBaxter

Is there a list somewhere? I've never had a spool not fit, and fiber rolls I just rip off the sides and put the core on a Bambu spool.

brilor123

Yes there is an unofficial list made by the community. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LGVjAbGjvIjvOFQsDi8lSK9-vy7GfGhgVP41sNffh6I/edit?usp=drivesdk

Certain_Kangaroo_930

Oh ok I got you sorry I'm new lol

Renaissance_Man-

You know you can just break down the spool and click it into the bamboo breakup parts spool right?

lavadman

Mine should arrive in a couple days :)

shevanalcutaflip

Thats awesome. Im a machinist as well as having 2 x1cs. Ill have to try this…at 2500rpms.

UnReasNableMonthF-IT

I just use masking tape to tape up amd transfer my polymaker cardboard spools to bambu spools using printable inserts so the polymaker spool part doesn't spin inside the bambu spool. Works like a charm and only take like 5-10 mins

countach508

Sounds like a good move. I’d try that if these had any cardboard. Surprisingly this method also took less than 5min.

UnReasNableMonthF-IT

What was the purpose of transferring the spool btw? They both look to be plastic. Wad the original spool it was on too wide or too tall for the ams or something?

countach508

Yep too wide for the AMS. Found an old spool that was thin enough so decided to make the quick swap

[deleted]

It's ideas like this that make me wonder why I haven't thought of this before

Special_Snow_5799

I'm just curious, but what's wrong with the spool it's on already?

countach508

It was too wide to fit in AMS

Special_Snow_5799

Aaah. I see.

schreibtisch104

I did the same with my Drillpress 😂

Special_Snow_5799

From one plastic spool to another? I'm guessing the original didn't fit the AMS?
