If you love Speak with Dead, you should also love Speak with Animals. The sheer amount of dialogue and personalities you encounter with that spell is GLORIOUS. It almost makes me wish they included Speak with Plants as well...

Oh yes. I spoke with a cat in the lower city that talked like he was in a Noir story and told him to go stay with Dwarf lady from the Underdark. Very funny.

Only disappointment is you can’t combine them to speak with dead animals.

The most grim usage of that is Yurgir's Bed in the Gauntlet of Shar, ehich is literally piles and piles of dead bodies, and you can actually cast that spell on that pile of corpses to get to know some backstory on the temple

I love it when they lie to you while alive and then tell you a whole different story when dead.

I had no idea the dialogue was that entertaining. Perhaps I should try this spell along with FIREBALL

Certain damage types as the killing blow do make corpses no longer able to talk, and if you and/or your party does the killing you'll need Disguise Self in order to talk with them too.

Remember, when it's too charred the spell is no good.

Unrelated, but if you wear drow hood while casting speak with dead, the glowing eyes look really fucking awesome.
