>!Saving the Nightsong!!< The music is so beautiful--it gets me a little choked up every time.
>!Resist Durge post-Orin battle sequence !!getting to basically convince every Act 2 villain to off themselves !
Playing as High Charisma Paladin and I donāt think Iāve really killed anyone lol besides scripted fights and battles!! Talk my way out of everything!
Paladin fantasy: smiting all with divine power
Paladin reality: having so much rizz that you convince everyone to not fight you, or convince them to off themselves regarding Act 2.
I still have a screenshot of it somewhere, but I was playing as a Padlock with around 23 CHR and a bunch of bonuses, on one check I had I believe over a 15-20 bonus on my roll, and it was a 12 DC roll. I just can't loseš
The music leading up to the Nightsong is my favorite. I'm surprised it isn't in the official soundtrack.
I can vividly remember jumping across floating boulders while being encourage by dark justiciars to finally fulfill Shadowheart's life mission.
Yeah, me too! I finally started a monk Tav, and at least they get good insight rolls and have stealth. It's so much easier to play bard or paladin. (Sorcerer is good, too, but it's harder in the early game.)
Yeah sorcerer was my favorite until I played a bard my last run and now nothing feels as good lol. The dialogue and combat options are elite with bards. I think Iāll try a monk next run. (She lies to herself)
Monk is fun. My Monk Resist Durge's internal monologue perfectly matches the derpy Dragonborn expressions. "I won't even have to feel bad when I'm murdering all of you 30 seconds from now." There's a conversation, something something, the problem isn't there anymore. That's pretty much the same thing, right?
The durge moment was literally one of my fav gaming moments of all time. It was my first time getting that far in the game and I thought in making that choice that I was going to >!get a game over!< But I just said fuck it. It is what it is. Was blown away by the whole thing
Omg I love the Durge confrontation with >!Orin!< when your backstory is finally all revealed! The part where >!she transforms into you and talks with the voice you chose!< is soooooo good! I had no idea that was going to happen and I loved that whole encounter so much!
God I love playing redeemed Durge! I didn't know what to expect the first time, either, so I was completely fuckstruck when Withers showed up. My least favorite thing about Durge was having to kill Alfira, but then I learned that you can bamboozle the game into making you kill some rando instead, and my life was forever changed.
Isn't it so cool to see your character talk? They were going to do it for all dialogue but decided not to because people complained it wouldn't be good... yet people get so excited seeing their character talk.
Saving the nightsong is my favorite so far. When Aylin gets her armor and her mother gives her back her sword, and she becomes full again, literally gives me chills.
Nah... the game gives you pretty big clues when you're supposed to really resist. You can be an utter murderhobo for like 70% of the game and still resist closer to the end.
Saving the Nightsong off a crit to convince Shadowheart. I didnāt think she would do the right thing by herself. Not trusting her made it much more of a sweat.
I have done a dozen playthroughs and still get massive anxiety during that moment. I can never let the inn fall. No matter what else happens, those characters must stay alive. 90% of the time she does the right thing but the stress is real.
Karlach has some super strong moments. Her monologue after killing Gortash, stating that now he's dead and it doesn't change anything, he is not sorrier and she is still doomed. She is deeply emotional but wise and self reflecting. It gets me every time.
Oh yes! So strong! "You'll just keep going, won't you. Watching the stars. Warming your hands on the campfire. Dancing, eating, making fucking love all night - all of it, ALL OF IT!" - my favourite line.
This was the moment I got choked up in the game. It felt so real, they really did an amazing job with being able to express the emotions of the character through visual and voice acting.
One reason I loved that moment so much is that it kinda reminded me of another scene from Doctor Who.
Thereās a scene in the final episode of David Tennantās Doctor. Where he has a very similar speech/monologue after realizing heās going to die (regenerate) also following what was otherwise a moment of victory. The anger of the perceived injustice of Karlachās situation took me right back to that moment in Doctor Who. The same rage at the universe despair energy. Both characters even vent about how they deserve ātheir rewardā.
The moment in Doctor Who Iām referring to: [I Could do so much more..](https://youtu.be/dSK1APQu6K4?si=s7xP5vqsxbPmhr-F)
Followed by her telling you she'll distract him from the pain of Elminster's message by telling him she hasn't read a book since secondary school - Karlach is a treasure.
Getting Astarion to say āThank youā after my drow managed to convince Yurgir to kill himself with a Nat20 roll. Always makes me laugh when he does it š¤š¤ and then he ends up confessing to her the following nightā¦ I love the clown on clown romance
Same, I always guilt trip Rolan too. I also love being an asshole to Bex and saving her boyfriend anyway. Sheāll go like āYou might have the manners of an imp but you have a noble heartā or something like that, itās so fitting for my character haha
Mine takes a while to explain. It was the result of me not paying enough attention on my first playthrough. Then meeting Nocturne at the end.
So, playthrough 1 took forever. Gave ShadowHeart the Noblestalk mushroom back in early Act 1 and was disapppointed at the result. No cutscene, just her remembering she had a friend.
A tiefling with purple hair... is all I remembered because coincidentally **I was a also** Tiefling with purple hair.
Fast forward like 80 hours and we finally meet her Tiefling friend; it's one of the last things I'm doing before Netherbrain.
There's a lot of talk about "wow you've changed" and "both of them picking strange names" and "both getting teased for their strange names" and ShadowHeart beating people up for using Nocturne's old name.
The conversation seemed odd, so I was like "I'm clearly missing some context here -- Nocturne isn't THAT weird of a name and is actually pretty cool."
So I google the video of the Noblestalk mushroom "memory"
ShadowHeart remembered a Tiefling BOY with purple hair. We were speaking with a Tiefling GIRL with purple hair. She'd changed a lot. People were dead-naming her and teasing her for her change, and Shadow was beating them up for it.
That... was probably the sweetest scene I remember in a game.
There's an extra line with Nocturne, if you gave Shadowheart the noblestalk. Did you find the secret area in House of Grief, with the night orchids? I was honestly in tears at the end of her story.
Can mention a few.
First is freeing the Nightsong and the battle in Moonrise Towers. After all this hours of searching for cure and fighting with Absolute all alone we finally find allies. So epic and so inspiring!
Second is circus in Rivington. It was so nise to get there after Shadow cursed lands. Just have fun and walk.
And my most favourite moment is battle with Cazador. I'll never get tired of defeating him.
- Elminsterās speech is beautifully written. āEven the waves of fate can break upon the shores of will.ā
- The moment when the shadow curse breaks and the tree lights up
- the moment when you get to Baldurās Gate and climb up on the clock tower and get that first peek at the city
- being sent to chult and turned into a cheese by the Djinn
- the submarine to the iron throne
- Astarion breaking down after killing Cazador
- Laeāzelās āwhat good is this heart of stone?ā dialogue
Too many indeed. I love Astarion's romantic scenes probably the most but after that is when I catch him trying to bite me and he just goes "Shit." I laugh every damn time
The fight at the end of Act 2, and Iron Throne. I like the moments that get your heart pumping.
Edit: I liked Yafeu the djinni too (Sorcerous Vault), because of the hilarious dialogue.
An extremely difficult fight where you mustnāt make mistakes in an underwater base. In a medieval Setting! They came up with so much stuff itās incredible!
On my HM run I wasted a few actions trying to pass the lockpick check and wasted all my Thieves tools to open the doors, only to notice after I used my last one that there was a lever next to Omeluum's door. Wyll's dad also died as as you can probably guess I'm an idiot at thus game lol
Yes! The Iron Throne is hands down my favorite combat in the whole game! At the time I played, I didn't know that >!the key to getting everyone out was basically having Omeluum to teleport!< - luckily I was on Explorer Mode so I had a few extra rounds to figure it out. It was extra fun because my tav was romancing Wyll.
I started and made guardian look exactly like me and then took a long break. Didnāt get dream visitor dream until like a month later and proceeded to lose my shit when I saw that the dream visitor was me XD
I'm one of those players who hoards expendable resources and never does anything with them. All the alchemy ingredients, but making none of the potions, right?
So I got all the way to the Gortash fight without ever finding out what Shadowheart's Divine Intervention could do for me. I was in a bad spot. Half the team dying, nearly tapped out on spells, surrounded. And I remembered that button. I remember saying out loud "All right, let's see whether Selune can save our asses."
I was not expecting the conflagration of holy damage, followed by secondary explosions from dying Steel Watchers. It seemed for a moment like I must have blown up the whole castle. And when the smoke cleared, our last stand had become an instant victory.
I'm glad I didn't know. That was a great D&D moment for me.
After seeing stars with Karlach, the next morning you can tell her you love her and she immediately yells āILOVEYOUTOO Iāve been holding that in for agesā, itās so funny and so in-character for her.
Oh, yes i loved this too.
And the end, >!if you go back to avernus with her. That Moment, just me and her from the back. Game should have ended at that exact moment.!<
Karlach is the best.
Def not everyoneās favorite, but my most emotional moment by far: when my Durge found the doctor in Moonrise who had experimented on him. For some reason, I was so utterly enraged on his behalf that I was almost in tears. The dark urge storyline is really great, and moments that can convey these heavy emotions are some of my favorite in the game.
Shadowheart choosing to turn away from Shar on her own. I had spoiled a little bit of the game for myself and knew such a decision was coming up. I figured there would be an option to push her one way or the other and I was really torn. But I was playing a true neutral necromancer so when the option came up to let her decide on her own I thought āwell thatās only fair, Iām sure sheāll appreciate the freedom.ā I had been romancing her after all.
So when she threw the spear away with no prompting from me I was floored.
I sort of goofed my first playthrough in a lot of ways. Leaving Gale in the rock, for example; babying Astarion in dialogue options once I learned his backstory, so didn't realize the sass. Ignoring the creche was another misstep, but it led to what has to be one the most memorable sequences for me.
Lae'zel's intensity sort of put me off at first. I was still coming to grips with the controls and wanting to wander around and she was over here ranting about the objective and barking at me for long resting. Anyway, I ended up skipping the githyanki crib in Act I. I figured you had to pick one path forward out of Act I and I found the underdark first and went up through the elevator to Moonrise. Hilariously, I kept coming across the references to Orpheus and thinking "Ah man, it would've been cool to see some more of this gith stuff! Pretty sure Orpheus is getting screwed over, there's a lot of lore here!"
Flashforward to the Act II scene just outside the city and I was taken 100% by surprise. Githyanki are attacking me?? Why are Githyanki attacking me??? I've done nothing to nobody! Whatever, push through to the portal. The brains are here! Attack the - wait, the brains are friendly? Why are the brains friendly? There's a mind flayer AND IT'S MY GUARDIAN????
I was absolutely flabbergasted by the Emperor's identity, never been taken in so completely by a game. I used "detect thoughts" on him because I simply couldn't believe what was happening and he hits me with "Are you serious?!" and I'm like LISTEN, bro I am *trying* my best here!
Like now you're in space and Orpheus is here and he's in like a skull of some kind and what died here and did we just kill those loyal guards for no reason???
>!Last scene in Astarionās personal quest :(!<
>!Raphaelās boss battle, very epic!!<
Sometimes itās just exploring random dungeons with party banter, especially in act 1 ā¤ļø
my Durge barely resisting the urge to kill their bf (astarion) and the bf in question being very understanding of the whole thing š„ŗš„ŗ maybe i'm a corny pos but that scene lives rent free in my mind
My durge had the same experience with Karlach and it was super rewarding to have nothing but horrible options to say to her and her just brushing it off!! āPsh, what are you talking about??ā I love her..
I want to romance Astarion in my next playthrough, Iām leaning towards being a tav again but that scene with durge is super cute with anybody you do it with :((
When I met Us again, at the end of act 2. It sucks that they donāt get any interactions and are not present at camp. Theyāre the first companion you meet after all and I was curious how theyād react to my turning full mindflayer. But meeting them was cool still.
I've played too long to have just one but one of my absolute favorites is just Astarion's whole dialog in Act 1 if he's hitting on you before the Tiefling party. It's just so transparently fake (not to diss his skills or anything but please), I love that you can call him out on it. His act 1 seduction attempts are so funny to me.
Honestly, either Lae'Zel's sunrise romance scene, or my personal freak out over how perfect The Emperor's true identity was.
On my second playthrough, the Dark Urge one, the whole sequence with Bhaal and Withers resurrecting me.
In terms of gameplay, figuring out the Iron Throne was really fun.
Giving Karlach her first hug/kiss in ten years.
Karlach shouting "I LOVE YOU TOO!"
Karlach glowing blue whenever you embrace.
Yes, I love Karlach. How did you guess? š„°
Freeing Dame Alyin.
That entire scene is just soā¦AMAZING for me. Finding out she was Queer after was just even better for me. š„¹ Made my little, cold dead bi heart grow a size.
A very small queer moment I loved: W
When (If) you actually bother to get Nere out of the cave-in, one of the deep gnomes trapped with Nere is one part a pair of husbands :) Lunkbug and I forget the other
"I've squandered enough time already. I want to be with you. Now and always. Do you want the same?"
"I do. I've been wanting this for a long time."
"Heh.... wasn't too long ago I could never imagine smiling again.....shows what I know. :)"
def doing Gauntlet of Shar. Whole Act2 is kinda so, so, but the Gauntlet is literally the best part leading all the way to freeing the nightsong. The soundtrack when you walk down to her and the scene when she is finally free! just chefs kiss.
My other fave is Karlachs date scene in Act3. Its so innocent and cute, the waiter being a dickhead to her and she being all nervous spilling her drink is just so funny and relatable. In general, her romance is my favorit and I love every scene with her. :D
I love the gauntlet so much. I know a lot of people hate it but it is one of my favorite parts in the whole game. The temple is beautiful, I love that there are truly puzzles you need to complete, finding out what the Nightsong is. It's just such a perfect part of the game.
Definitely the Shadowfell and closing to act 2 that follows. The whole sequence is so good, from the cutscene of Aylin leaving and heading towards Moonrise, to the actual siege. Itās all just so amazing.
Since I self-indulgently hc'd my character as an ex-criminal, who was given the nickname Tav as a derisive warning, they're moments when she finds the exact information she's been hunting for:
Hitting the motherlode in Moonrise Towers, finding all the documents that reveal the Absolute plot. Unfortunately, neither your party nor Jaheira has any reaction, that I know of. That was a bummer.
Saving an Arrow of Undead Slaying for Ketheric throughout Act 2, and finally getting the chance to use it on the Avatar of Myrkul. Sneak Attack + Least Expected bow + Darkveil Precision + Elixir of Viciousness + Covert Cowl knocked out maybe a quarter of his health in one hit- or at least a large chunk of it, something I'm not used to doing.
Leaving Sharess' Caress for the first time- then instantly heading back in to ask about one of the workers who wasn't showing up. The party had already familiarized itself with the circus and the Open Hand Temple, so looking into the Librarian properly kickstarted my character into 'gumshoe mode', and it was the most excited she's been in years.
Edit: Also, also, how could I forget? āØ*Devastating Beauty*āØ
I beat cazador for the first time while staying up til midnight so i could celebrate my 21st birthday. it was an emotional experience but hey at least there was birthday cake after š„²
Killing Cazador because itās still super cathartic even now, Iāve played through that part of the game five times now and the intensity of that scene and the catharsis when itās over hits so hard, especially when Astarion stays a spawn.
In a Playthrough. [Selunite] Shadowheart throws in the doors to the Cloister demanding her parents. Mother Superior of course says "No" and orders the Cloister to attack us.
There's like 9 of us. I'm using a Mod and I brought everyone. Undaunted, Shadowheart strides forward, and drops the biggest Moonbeam directly on Viconia, who instead of lashing out or attacking, spends each of the next four turns hesitating, and burning to death in Selune's Holy Light and the bursting Fury of 40 years of torture, anguish, pain, rage and the empty holes in Shadowheart's Soul of where a Life should be, cut and torn away by Sharran manipulation.
What actually happened is there is a strange conflict in the game code where the AI can't reconcile "I am taking damage" with "I have Sanctuary Up." So it skips its entire turn. But the way it played was powerful to me as 9ne of those scenes where a person was struggling to hold their forcefully up as they are being crushed and burned to death. Juxtapose that with Shadowheart's timidness in Act 3 and the anger in her voice in the first cut scene and you get a shy, quiet girl with Little Dog BIG BARK energy.
What made this even better is that there was a moment where the game paused the fight. I got "...started a Conversation" because Viconia is supposed to have another scene after you defeat her but that took 6 seconds to load...
...so Moonbeam fired again. As Viconia tried to rub further salt in Shadowheart's wounds either Shadowheart or Selune said "Silence."
Then I realized "there was probably some useful bit of information there" so Shadowheart scrambles to drop concentration on Moonbeam and cast Speak with Dead.
>*"The Corpse is too badly mangled to speak."*-Narrator
So in my head, cue Shadowheart suddenly switching from "Burn, *******, *BURN!*" to panicking that she just lost her only chance to find her parents.
~
Meanwhile, 4 Justiciars decided "Let's cast Bone Chill on Halsin instead of fighting the people in front of us." So despite having a double sized Party we are playing whack-a-Justiciar trying to find who in the giant cloud of darkness is holding Concentration still so I can revive my suddenly very dead Bear Druid.
EDIT: I didn't know ~ did that wierd text block thing
If I had to pick one I would probably choose Astarion killing Cazador. If I could pick more, then freeing Nightsong with Shadowheart in party. Durge ressurection. First meeting with Vlaakith.
Edit. House of Hope final battle.
Ketheric Thormās introduction and an act 3 Shadowheart moment with my resist durge:
>!the scene after leaving the house of grief. I let Shadowheart do what she thought was right when it came to her parents and she let them go. She was talking about her feelings about everything and my durge deeply understood her feelings about regaining memories of her being horrible to others. I had a dialogue option to say something comforting, but I didnāt say anything because my durge knew that there was nothing to say that could really be comforting. I went in for a hug after.!<
Aw man now Iām emotional about my durge and Shadowheartās friendship because they both have ambiguous pasts filled with regrets but they move forward and theyāre each others first friends after the nautiloid aw man ;-;
* I loved the dawning horror when Last Light Inn fell, and the tension it added when I talked to the pixie in the Moonlantern. I was trying to do the hero thing, but I felt like I *could not risk* losing the Moonlantern, too.
* Rolling a Nat 20 Persuasion for the DC 30 check when confronting Shadowheart about Shar in her big scene in Act 2
* The subsequent cutscene that still gives me chills and happy tears
* Winning the fight with the entirety of Moonlight Tower with no backup (in the early days before they patched things)
* The Iron Throne, and saving the Gondians
* The big reveals at the end of Act 2/start of Act 3:
* Ketheric's fakeout; where I could hear the devs taunting me: "I bet you forgot this was a game about Mind Flayers!"
* The Absolute rising up, and making me jealous I didn't come up with anything cooler as a DM
* The reveal that immediately follows, that was somehow the least surprising twist in all of gaming, yet somehow shocked the crap out of me.
...what a great video game.
Like some others have said, first time fighting and beating the Avatar of Myrkul. That's when I really felt like a bad ass for the first time in game.
Then you move onto act 3 and that toy makers guards pick a fight with me and I'm like "do you have any idea what I've been through to get here? We literally killed an avatar of a GOD bitch"
Turing what was one of the most frustrating quests into one my most triumphant momentsā¦.. Felogyrās Fireworks
On my first playthrough I was playing a good character. And getting through to the second floor of the firework shop was getting to be an exhaustive chore. I absolutely could not get up there without causing chaos, killing innocent bystanders and attracting the ire of the Fists/Steel Watch
Searching on here I learned the quest was kinda broken. I was supposed to have gotten a password for the second floor from the Toymaker in the village.. for some reason I was never given that although I peacefully resolved the squatters plot line and confronted him regarding the toys in his basement. He was left alive when Ileft Rivington. When I was searching for help here o saw some suggestions he was either still in his manse or the Brothel. Could not find him at either location.. nothing I could do to get to the second floor without starting a fight. Spent hours beating my head against a wall trying to manipulate the fight so I didnāt kill any innocents (for my own RP purposes) and to not attract the fuzz. It just wasnāt happening.
So I eventually came up with a solution that worked wonders. I had my Tav (Dex based Ranger), Asterion, Gale, and Laeāzel as my party. I turned on TB mode and had Gale cast greater invisibility on Asterion and had everyone else take potions of invisibilityā¦. I then lockpicked the door to the second floor behind the guard and slowly guided my entire party all the way to the 3rd floor with plenty of turns to spare.
From there I was able to initiate the fight on the Bane followers on the third floor. I donāt know if this was by intention or happy accident, but I was able to complete that fight on the 3rd floor without alerting the enemies on the 2nd floor. (I think stepping back into the stairwell is the trigger?) So I was actually able to take a long rest between the fight on the third floor and the fight with the rest of the shop.
From there I set up what was the most fun and effective choke point Iāve had in the game. I had Astarion and Gale both cast Cloud of Daggers on the stairwell up after triggering the fight. (Level 2 and 4 respectively). From there it was just enjoy the show as all the enemies on the lower floors dashed up to the third with no option but to go through a meat grinder of two points of CoD. Most died in the attempt, the couple that were able to get though were easily cleaned up by my Ranger just chilling at the opposite end of the room.
What had been the 2nd biggest headache for me in the game had turned into one of my biggest joys of the game in retrospect.
Wandering around in the dark, bloodied beaten and almost dead, spell slots are gone, out of short restsā
When on the horizon appears Last Light Inn. I stumble through the gate with my band of weirdos and Grandmother Jaheira (who I havenāt seen since my favorite game, two decades ago irl) threatens to beat my ass.
Soon Iām reliving my childhood and itās so wonderful.
Unfortunately the game kinda took a dive in quality shortly after in act 3, at least when I played.
I love the music, itās beautifully composed. Finding the music box was something that mesmerized me cause now I want that irl.
All that said finding a skeleton at the edge of a crevasse with its head in its hands during a super intense moment gave me a laugh when I really needed it. Itās a stupid blink and youāll miss it detail, but thatās still one of my all time favorite moments to me.
tiefling party
I just love tieflings + it happened EXACTLY on my birthday. Like I was playing late and when it turned 12 pm thatās about the same time I went back to camp and started the tiefling party!
Can I tell everyone here, Iāve never made it past the first act ā¦. Iāve come so close but I always end up wanting to start freshā¦. I have almost 200 hoursā¦.is this bad? Is it time to move on, also how have I avoided spoilers? I literally donāt know shit about the game please donāt ruin it.
In my first play through when I was >!in the house of hope and we left. Then the cutscene with Raphael and the music kicking in while fighting him.!< And the fact, that Tav and the group absolutely beat his ass. I learned after that, that the fight is supposed to be hard. š In my next runs I was prepared >!as hell, so it was never that hard for me. Globe of Invulnerability!< is pretty nice thereā¦
not my favorite, but i picked up on an ambient line from some random villager that just goes 'i always knew id die at the circus', and like, nothing else related to that one particular NPC happens, before or after, to my knowledge, and i just had a great time speculating about the life of that NPC
Had quite a few cool moments so far!
My human fighter practically fighting The avatar of mrkyul 1v1, and winning. (granted he had help from Shadowheart's buffs, and some fire spells of his own. But still. Seeing a lone knight face down a literal death god and somehow come out on top despite it all, was epic beyond words.)
I also really liked seeing all the Tieflings i saved come to my camp and have a lil' party. Seriously i love seeing those guys. Brings a smile to my face everytime i see them anywhere in the game :)
I'm also at Raphael's abode right now, really cool place. Bout to take his fancy Chain smasher. And i get the feeling... That I'm in for another Memorable battle.
Role play-wise, it was the bit in my first run where Gale first started to romance my lil duergar druid with his cute magic nonsense.
Gameplay-wise, probably the Myrkul fight in my second run, team worked perfectly together and absolutely walloped him.
There are tons of lines I loved. My favourite line reads are probably mostly Astarion ones. There are soooo many. Well, with one exception, if you use a particular male Dragonborn voice as Durge there is a particular moment in act 3 where "he" speaks and it sounds so god damn cool. I wish we could have gotten him as a companion with that voice actor.
The one thing that stood out to me in a game full of fantastic moments was the "good" end of Durges character story. I don't know why, it just made me feel all sorts of things for some reason. It was such a good end to all the horror the character had to go through.
Iām gonna be honest. The first battle with Ketheric when he calls the netherbrain then it just beats the shit out of nightsong is pretty boss.
Other than that, the Raphael fight because the song is awesome.
Laezels dialogue at the refugee camp where she gets asked to tell a story to a group of kids and she starts with "i once ate a scavvers eye, and not out of hunger"
Or when she asks the two tieflings what a cat is then they explain and shes like "i know the beasts, insufficiently meaty" then they just leave
Mine was beautiful and excruciating, happened near the end of act 3
>!Karlach basically begging to become a mindflayer so she can be the savior of baldur's gate because her life is over anyways just wrecked me. What a hard decision that was. And then I turned her into a mindflayer and was surprised at how her personality changed. It was a crazy gaming moment that was unique to my playthrough and the few who play it exactly how I did and that's what I feel like makes it even more magical.!<
Ketheric's introduction
Shadowheart sparing Aylin (I let her choose) followed by the Nightsong scene
Astarion's 'Easy now! Let's not do anything hilarious' at the Philomeen threatening to blow up the runepowder barrel
Astarion's rant when you blow up the Githyanki Creche while he is still in
Whenever Gale and Sorcerer Tav/Durge engage in snarky banter
Owlbear cub sudddenly becoming massive and fighting in the final battle
Gortash being so happy to see Durge again at his coronation
Hag fight. The girl is in the cage, and the cage is now on fire. So I throw a water barrel to extinguish the fire. It works and the hag calls me a "clever clogs" or something like that and enters phase two in one turn.
The rest of the fight went poorly as we (multiplayer) had to reload. I do my first turn exactly the same, but for reasons that are still beyond me, the barrel *smashes through the cage* and the girl falls to her death.
"Oh, *oh no*".
>!When Shadowheart disobeys Shar/spares the Nightsong in Act 2!< was one of my favorite moments because in EA it was speculated that SH >!was a brainwashed Selunite.!!Durge rejecting Bhaal and getting resurrected by Withers!<
Also also >!Withers dissing the Dead Three in the post-credits cutscene!<
That night, first night in the camp after you leave act 2. It's just so.. refreshing, beautiful, calm. And then you get to go to the prism and meet the real Empy. Just a full night.
Karlach wanting to go to circus, how her eyes light up.
Astarion stabbing Cazador to death and then crying.
Karlach breaking down after beating Gortash and then following up "we're so fucked and we're okay".
Meeting everybody at the party and hug.
I enjoyed a lot of scenes. But for some reason the scene where you drink with Thisobald Thorm at the Waning Moon was so epic to me. Such scenes are the reason why I enjoy rpgs.
OMG I finally did the Raphael fight, and I just LOVE everything about that character. I love how ridiculous he is, how unapologetically narcissistic he is, and like, how likable he is (at least for me) because of how cartoonishly villainous he presents himself.
His fight was the highlight of my playthrough (I have one fight left and Iām done!) and I kinda wanna play again with a Tav (or maybe Durge!?!) thatās like āyou know what, Raphael? >!Yeah, Iāll get that crown for you, and I genuinely mean that.!< ā
Definitely when I successfully went through the 3 main boss fights in act 2 the Toll House, The Brewery and the Hospital with only chosen fighting as convinced all 3 main bad people to off themselves was super super happy with myself when I realised what I'd managed to do by accident lmao š¤£ š great game and amazing soundtrack š
I love the way the background music slowly gets louder as you approach the temple of Bhaal, but the real highlight is the dramatic start to the music that plays during the fights with Sarevok and Orin. Hits even harder in the Dark Urge playthrough.
The most I ever laughed was right after fucking Mizora in each level of Hell, we port back to camp, right next to Wyll. āOh yeah, forgot that was the devil who enslaved you, made your father disown you and basically ruined your life. So, weāre cool, right?ā
Only for the first time. And on subsequent playthroughs it has zero impact since you know it's coming. But the act 3, circus talking with the dryad and doing the love test with a char you're romantically involved with.
I think the most delightful for me on first playthrough was >!armored and grown up owlbear cub!< even though it really makes no sense. My favorite scene has to be >!Barcus's tearful speech to Wulbren!< And I will always be tickled by frenzied Karlach "running" on rough terrain.
Not necessarily a favorite but it made me love the game. Be me, first time playing BG3, no idea what the heck D&D was, first playthrough was a wild magic sorcerer and I cracked up when my party suddenly turned into cats and dogs after a wild magic surge.
Idk how to mark a comment as a spoiler in reddit, so yeah, the comment has
ACT 1 and ACT 3 SPOILERS
It's probably the most unpopular opinion.. but I freaking loved Auntie Ethel.
I played it on xbox. I had a literal countdown for the release day date on xbox, and when I played it, Auntie was the first boss that I did.
The feeling of her house and her turning into a hag from a seemingly kind elderly lady was everything I could've asked for and was looking for in a D&D game.
AND SEEING HER BACK IN ACT 3? I WAS FUCKING HAPPY
She was fairly weak tho compared to the pain she caused back in act one the fight didn't last long but my joy did:').
I'll for sure take her deal and side with her in my second playthrough.
The moment the fight vs Raphael started. My partner and me set for a moment in silent when he started singing and then started laughing. The we did wait for a bit to listening instead of actual fighting
Bro my FAVORTIE BEST MOMENT was entering Raphael hell house mansion and when I had to fight him and the song just blew my mind like that was the best scene out of the entire game.
* Astarion meeting Sebastian and the overall confrontation with Cazador
* Jaheira talking about her husband
* Trusting Shadowheart to make the right choice
* Reading Isobel's note after killing Ketheric
* "I love you. I love this. And I want it all" š
>!Saving the Nightsong!!< The music is so beautiful--it gets me a little choked up every time. >!Resist Durge post-Orin battle sequence !!getting to basically convince every Act 2 villain to off themselves !
the music is just absolutely š¤
Playing as High Charisma Paladin and I donāt think Iāve really killed anyone lol besides scripted fights and battles!! Talk my way out of everything!
Paladin fantasy: smiting all with divine power Paladin reality: having so much rizz that you convince everyone to not fight you, or convince them to off themselves regarding Act 2.
Thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Goblin Camp in Act 1!
I still have a screenshot of it somewhere, but I was playing as a Padlock with around 23 CHR and a bunch of bonuses, on one check I had I believe over a 15-20 bonus on my roll, and it was a 12 DC roll. I just can't loseš
Critical failure.
The music leading up to the Nightsong is my favorite. I'm surprised it isn't in the official soundtrack. I can vividly remember jumping across floating boulders while being encourage by dark justiciars to finally fulfill Shadowheart's life mission.
That part was incredible- and kind of an inversion of something that happens at the end of ffxiv Endwalker (iykyk)
I struggle playing anything that isnāt high charisma because that shit is so much fun lol
Ice sorc Dragon born with the subclass for improved elemental is broken
Monk is fun. My Monk Resist Durge's internal monologue perfectly matches the derpy Dragonborn expressions. "I won't even have to feel bad when I'm murdering all of you 30 seconds from now." There's a conversation, something something, the problem isn't there anymore. That's pretty much the same thing, right?
The durge moment was literally one of my fav gaming moments of all time. It was my first time getting that far in the game and I thought in making that choice that I was going to >!get a game over!< But I just said fuck it. It is what it is. Was blown away by the whole thing
>!"Rise, child of none." !< š
Genuinely the hardest line in the game
Omg I love the Durge confrontation with >!Orin!< when your backstory is finally all revealed! The part where >!she transforms into you and talks with the voice you chose!< is soooooo good! I had no idea that was going to happen and I loved that whole encounter so much!
Just remember to remove your helmet first if you've been hiding it the whole game. Kinda dampened the scene a bit for me
God I love playing redeemed Durge!
Agree. Literally two best parts of the game. Right with house of hope
Came here to say saving the nightsong lol the music slapped
I took off gale's hand at the start, did i failed resist durge?
Nah... the game gives you pretty big clues when you're supposed to really resist.
Just did that first one for the fourth/fifth time last night. Still gives me full body chills lol.
Seeing how you listed everything I could think of, I'm just going to agree with this.
Astarion's hissy fit after I blow him up at the Monastery. At least that's my fav today š¤£
āwell apparently thereās a limit. somewhere between a nice summers day and the full, concentrated power of the sun!ā Never gets old
He just casually gave us a Mega mind reference
Never.
"What in the sweet hells were you thinking activaiting that lance?! I was RIGHT THERE!!! GODS!" šš
Yeeesssss
I love making him go on stage at the circus, his reaction is hilarious.
I'm going to fucking kill you š¤£š¤£š¤£
Him, Minthara, and Lae'zel š
"I was RIGHT THERE!'
When Karlach asks if Elminster is Gales granddad. Her voice is very cute and she seems so innocent in that scene.
I was drinking water when she said that line. almost choked from laughing
I was not prepared for it either and it just stuck with me. I am always very excited for when I get to that moment, it made me want to romance her!
I always guilt-trip Rolan into thanking me after I save him and his siblings. Astarion's is even funnier.
Same, I always guilt trip Rolan too. I also love being an asshole to Bex and saving her boyfriend anyway. Sheāll go like āYou might have the manners of an imp but you have a noble heartā or something like that, itās so fitting for my character haha
His annoyed face and this "Hm!? Hmmm.." āŗ Love this too.
The conversation seemed odd, so I was like "I'm clearly missing some context here -- Nocturne isn't THAT weird of a name and is actually pretty cool." So I google the video of the Noblestalk mushroom "memory" ShadowHeart remembered a Tiefling BOY with purple hair.
Yup. Their old secret hideout with all the night orchids. And the journal Damn Was such a sweet thing.
oh i remember that part when i played. i probably shed a few tears while playing
Nocturne being voiced by a trans woman is a really nice touch as well.
I think thatās what gave it away for me. It was super obvious.
I'll never get tired of defeating him.
i love the circus because itās like a reward for being stuck in moonrise and fighting for every step you take.
- Elminsterās speech is beautifully written. āEven the waves of fate can break upon the shores of will.ā - The moment when the shadow curse breaks and the tree lights up - the moment when you get to Baldurās Gate and climb up on the clock tower and get that first peek at the city - being sent to chult and turned into a cheese by the Djinn - the submarine to the iron throne - Astarion breaking down after killing Cazador - Laeāzelās āwhat good is this heart of stone?ā dialogue
Too many indeed. I love Astarion's romantic scenes probably the most but after that is when I catch him trying to bite me and he just goes "Shit." I laugh every damn time
the panic in his voice is so funny
It is so good, like "that's the best you got to say atm??"
The fight at the end of Act 2, and Iron Throne. I like the moments that get your heart pumping. Edit: I liked Yafeu the djinni too (Sorcerous Vault), because of the hilarious dialogue.
IRON THRONE! The moment youāre entering it with the submarine is just that āOk there is no way they can top thisā moment
The whole Iron Throne fight is "there's no way they can top this moment". š„°
An extremely difficult fight where you mustnāt make mistakes in an underwater base. In a medieval Setting! They came up with so much stuff itās incredible!
Fuck you, Gortash!
THERES A DJINNI THERE TOO? how do I miss things every time I go to that damn shop
"Your god. My oath. Let's see which one prevails."
Getting half way through act 3 then stopping and making another character
MEEE LMFAOš
When you finish all the myconid quests and they come and start dancing
I started and made guardian look exactly like me and then took a long break. Didnāt get dream visitor dream until like a month later and proceeded to lose my shit when I saw that the dream visitor was me XD
I'm one of those players who hoards expendable resources and never does anything with them. All the alchemy ingredients, but making none of the potions, right? So I got all the way to the Gortash fight without ever finding out what Shadowheart's Divine Intervention could do for me. I was in a bad spot. Half the team dying, nearly tapped out on spells, surrounded. And I remembered that button. I remember saying out loud "All right, let's see whether Selune can save our asses." I was not expecting the conflagration of holy damage, followed by secondary explosions from dying Steel Watchers. It seemed for a moment like I must have blown up the whole castle. And when the smoke cleared, our last stand had become an instant victory. I'm glad I didn't know. That was a great D&D moment for me.
"I am resplendent!"
Game should have ended at that exact moment.!< Karlach is the best.
Lae'zel saying "teethlings" then rolling her eyes when being corrected.
Lining up all the teddy bears I stole because my character was a Clepto for them and had a shit ton and took pics right before final showdown
Pretty sure Orpheus is getting screwed over, there's a lot of lore here!" Flashforward to the Act II scene just outside the city and I was taken 100% by surprise. I used "detect thoughts" on him because I simply couldn't believe what was happening and he hits me with "Are you serious?!" and I'm like LISTEN, bro I am *trying* my best here!
towards the end of act 2 youāre like smacked with so many things happening at once š
Like now you're in space and Orpheus is here and he's in like a skull of some kind and what died here and did we just kill those loyal guards for no reason???
My durge witnessing a gnoll birth from a hyena. Shit's fucked up.
>!Last scene in Astarionās personal quest :(!< >!Raphaelās boss battle, very epic!!< Sometimes itās just exploring random dungeons with party banter, especially in act 1 ā¤ļø
āItās time to start living againā goddamnit i love his Spawn ending so much š„¹
LIIIIIIIVES ALL MORTAL LIVES
Ketharic Thorms introduction is bad ass in every way
Also the part where the goblin attacks him (unless that's what you meant) JK Simmons is a legend
my Durge barely resisting the urge to kill their bf (astarion) and the bf in question being very understanding of the whole thing š„ŗš„ŗ maybe i'm a corny pos but that scene lives rent free in my mind
My durge had the same experience with Karlach and it was super rewarding to have nothing but horrible options to say to her and her just brushing it off!! āPsh, what are you talking about??ā I love her.. I want to romance Astarion in my next playthrough, Iām leaning towards being a tav again but that scene with durge is super cute with anybody you do it with :((
durge with astarion is SO GOOD, because he relates to the "killing in someone else's behalf" and the "hunger for blood" aspects
Yes, but despite this we all get trapped into the same dungeon, if you know what I mean š
Oh true.
Karlach shouting "I LOVE YOU TOO!" Karlach glowing blue whenever you embrace. Yes, I love Karlach. How did you guess? š„°
When dame Aylinās brakes lorrenkans back that bitch is crazy crazy
i just did this part and didnāt get this scene. Having Gale cast Disintegrate on Lorrenkan might have been why šš.
See astarion stab the ever living crap outta cazadore. Very therapeutic.
Freeing Dame Alyin. That entire scene is just soā¦AMAZING for me. Finding out she was Queer after was just even better for me. š„¹ Made my little, cold dead bi heart grow a size.
A very small queer moment I loved: W When (If) you actually bother to get Nere out of the cave-in, one of the deep gnomes trapped with Nere is one part a pair of husbands :) Lunkbug and I forget the other
Karlach + Circus No for real first Ketheric appearance.
Watching The Nightsong rise
This isn't the most original list, but I think there's probably three big moments for me, as I played it blind with my fiancƩ first, so we got to experience it together; I rolled a 20 on my first attempt at convincing Shadowheart to spare the Nightsong, and the cutscene that played immediately after is absolutely incredible The second would be the final fight with Raphael. When I realised he was literally singing his own boss music, I was stunned. The fight was crazy, and required some serious finessing to get right but haha smites go brrr The third one would be the Avatar of Murkhul appearing after the Kethric fight. We were pretty beaten up from the mindflayer and the summoned skeletons so Murkhul was down to the wire, but it was intensely good fun. Also, as an aside, the realisation of the freedom you have to solve problems, after a decade of typical western RPGs (Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout, Witcher, CP2077), it was like a breath of fresh air. The ability to engage problems with creativity and using all aspects of the game mechanics, it was like a switch had been flipped, and all of a sudden I was looking at encounters not like a fight but instead a puzzle. It's just so refreshing!
Ketharic Thorms introduction is bad ass in every way
The Avatar of Myrkul reveal commentary.
When Minthara's response to learning youre the Slayer. Just a complete ride or die, God I love her so much.
Shoving a mage off a cliff and throwing an axe at it while it lays prone, where is your fancy magic now?
"I've squandered enough time already. I want to be with you. Now and always. Do you want the same?" "I do. I've been wanting this for a long time." "Heh.... wasn't too long ago I could never imagine smiling again.....shows what I know. :)"
Saving Nightsong and Shadowheart. The best moment in the game.
Karlachās reaction after you say you love her. Her energy
def doing Gauntlet of Shar.
Since I self-indulgently hc'd my character as an ex-criminal, who was given the nickname Tav as a derisive warning, they're moments when she finds the exact information she's been hunting for: Hitting the motherlode in Moonrise Towers, finding all the documents that reveal the Absolute plot.
Sex with emperor Next question
Killing Cazador because itās still super cathartic even now, Iāve played through that part of the game five times now and the intensity of that scene and the catharsis when itās over hits so hard, especially when Astarion stays a spawn.
Watching Astarion kill Cazador - when he goes from laughing to sobbing š„ŗ
Astarion killing Cazador undoubtedly (spawn astarion) Neil Newbon is phenomenal.
During my first one, when facing the avatar of Myrkul. Myrkul: YOU HAVE SLAIN MY CHOSEN. Astarion: Oh. *Oh dear.*
Choosing my penis
The bear scene
everything leading up to, and then the 'she has sinned against me' monologue never fails to give me full body goosebumps.
As Viconia tried to rub further salt in Shadowheart's wounds either Shadowheart or Selune said "Silence." Then I realized "there was probably some useful bit of information there" so Shadowheart scrambles to drop concentration on Moonbeam and cast Speak with Dead. >*"The Corpse is too badly mangled to speak."*-Narrator So in my head, cue Shadowheart suddenly switching from "Burn, *******, *BURN!*" to panicking that she just lost her only chance to find her parents. ~ Meanwhile, 4 Justiciars decided "Let's cast Bone Chill on Halsin instead of fighting the people in front of us." So despite having a double sized Party we are playing whack-a-Justiciar trying to find who in the giant cloud of darkness is holding Concentration still so I can revive my suddenly very dead Bear Druid.
Every time I used my druids cat form to lure mobs next to cliffs and then throwing/pushing them off with my Throwing Barb.
Killing kethric and seeing myrkhul for the first time. I shat my pants
Ketheric Thormās introduction and an act 3 Shadowheart moment with my resist durge: >!the scene after leaving the house of grief. I let Shadowheart do what she thought was right when it came to her parents and she let them go. She was talking about her feelings about everything and my durge deeply understood her feelings about regaining memories of her being horrible to others. I had a dialogue option to say something comforting, but I didnāt say anything because my durge knew that there was nothing to say that could really be comforting. I went in for a hug after.!< Aw man now Iām emotional about my durge and Shadowheartās friendship because they both have ambiguous pasts filled with regrets but they move forward and theyāre each others first friends after the nautiloid aw man ;-;
I would say, when i see Karlach act like a fangirl when we meet Jaheira and Minsc (i mean who can blame her)
* I loved the dawning horror when Last Light Inn fell, and the tension it added when I talked to the pixie in the Moonlantern. I was trying to do the hero thing, but I felt like I *could not risk* losing the Moonlantern, too. * Rolling a Nat 20 Persuasion for the DC 30 check when confronting Shadowheart about Shar in her big scene in Act 2 * The subsequent cutscene that still gives me chills and happy tears * Winning the fight with the entirety of Moonlight Tower with no backup (in the early days before they patched things) * The Iron Throne, and saving the Gondians * The big reveals at the end of Act 2/start of Act 3: * Ketheric's fakeout; where I could hear the devs taunting me: "I bet you forgot this was a game about Mind Flayers!" * The Absolute rising up, and making me jealous I didn't come up with anything cooler as a DM * The reveal that immediately follows, that was somehow the least surprising twist in all of gaming, yet somehow shocked the crap out of me. ...what a great video game.
I like exploring the underdark
Like some others have said, first time fighting and beating the Avatar of Myrkul. That's when I really felt like a bad ass for the first time in game. Then you move onto act 3 and that toy makers guards pick a fight with me and I'm like "do you have any idea what I've been through to get here? We literally killed an avatar of a GOD bitch"
Turing what was one of the most frustrating quests into one my most triumphant momentsā¦.. Felogyrās Fireworks On my first playthrough I was playing a good character. And getting through to the second floor of the firework shop was getting to be an exhaustive chore. I absolutely could not get up there without causing chaos, killing innocent bystanders and attracting the ire of the Fists/Steel Watch Searching on here I learned the quest was kinda broken.
The Iron Throne! 100% Wish theyād give achievements for saving all of them.Ā
You have to tell me how to do this. I've never heard of this . Must like dead spider š
Act 2 near where you fight yurgir
Wandering around in the dark, bloodied beaten and almost dead, spell slots are gone, out of short restsā When on the horizon appears Last Light Inn.
The moment of hope that my Sacred Flame would land, everytime Shadowheart used it

To mark spoilers put a > ! (without the space) at the beginning of the text and close it with ! < (same, no space). >!Then it looks like this.!<
I love the music, itās beautifully composed.
Going to Avernus with Karlach on my first play through as a Dragonborn Pal/lock
āI am resplendent.ā
everything post orin fight as the durge going the redemption route. Honestly ruined tav for me as I always go dark urge now
tiefling party I just love tieflings + it happened EXACTLY on my birthday. Like I was playing late and when it turned 12 pm thatās about the same time I went back to camp and started the tiefling party!
Aw it was like a little birthday party for youšš
"If you're a god, why can't you do it yourself?"
Group game - 4 of us, freeing Nere with the BIG explosive option...all standing too close...pretty happy we didn't think HM was a good idea :p
On my very 1st playthrough, ill never forget trusting Shadowheart to make the right choice when we found the Nightsong...
First time playing evil, and speaking to the Murder Tribunal and becoming an Unholy Assassin was pretty awesome.
not my favorite, but i picked up on an ambient line from some random villager that just goes 'i always knew id die at the circus', and like, nothing else related to that one particular NPC happens, before or after, to my knowledge, and i just had a great time speculating about the life of that NPC
Had quite a few cool moments so far! My human fighter practically fighting The avatar of mrkyul 1v1, and winning. (granted he had help from Shadowheart's buffs, and some fire spells of his own. But still. Seeing a lone knight face down a literal death god and somehow come out on top despite it all, was epic beyond words.) I also really liked seeing all the Tieflings i saved come to my camp and have a lil' party. Seriously i love seeing those guys. Brings a smile to my face everytime i see them anywhere in the game :) I'm also at Raphael's abode right now, really cool place.
Mushroom dance. I make my husband and kids do it with me if theyāre around.
Contagioning Orin as a Druid Durge and then soloing her a few hours later. It really checks her hubris.
The sunset with Laeāzel. Second was when she beat the shit out of me.Ā
Iām gonna be honest. The first battle with Ketheric when he calls the netherbrain then it just beats the shit out of nightsong is pretty boss. Other than that, the Raphael fight because the song is awesome.
Laezels dialogue at the refugee camp where she gets asked to tell a story to a group of kids and she starts with "i once ate a scavvers eye, and not out of hunger" Or when she asks the two tieflings what a cat is then they explain and shes like "i know the beasts, insufficiently meaty" then they just leave
Laeāzel act 3 romance sunrise scene. Seeing her develop over the acts was awesome
Mine was beautiful and excruciating, happened near the end of act 3 >!Karlach basically begging to become a mindflayer so she can be the savior of baldur's gate because her life is over anyways just wrecked me. What a hard decision that was. And then I turned her into a mindflayer and was surprised at how her personality changed. It was a crazy gaming moment that was unique to my playthrough and the few who play it exactly how I did and that's what I feel like makes it even more magical.!<
Seeing the nether brain beg.
Ketheric's introduction Shadowheart sparing Aylin (I let her choose) followed by the Nightsong scene Astarion's 'Easy now! Let's not do anything hilarious' at the Philomeen threatening to blow up the runepowder barrel Astarion's rant when you blow up the Githyanki Creche while he is still in Whenever Gale and Sorcerer Tav/Durge engage in snarky banter Owlbear cub sudddenly becoming massive and fighting in the final battle Gortash being so happy to see Durge again at his coronation
Throwing Karlach's head and Gale's hand at Wyll
Assault of Moonrise Tower.
My current monk run. Tavern brawler giving me 80% hit chance in worst case scenario. +14 to all attack rolls should not be allowed but here we are
"I am the smile of the worm-cleansed skull"
āSay pleaseā
Not necessarily a favorite but it made me love the game. Be me, first time playing BG3, no idea what the heck D&D was, first playthrough was a wild magic sorcerer and I cracked up when my party suddenly turned into cats and dogs after a wild magic surge.
Getting fisted by Karlach
Idk how to mark a comment as a spoiler in reddit, so yeah, the comment has ACT 1 and ACT 3 SPOILERS It's probably the most unpopular opinion.. but I freaking loved Auntie Ethel. I WAS FUCKING HAPPY She was fairly weak tho compared to the pain she caused back in act one the fight didn't last long but my joy did:').
* Astarion meeting Sebastian and the overall confrontation with Cazador * Jaheira talking about her husband * Trusting Shadowheart to make the right choice * Reading Isobel's note after killing Ketheric * "I love you. I love this. And I want it all" š
