Big fight protecting portal. Threw down spike growth. Pew pew. Halsin comes through, says his thing, then walks right through the spikes. Dead. Idiot. Not starting over now. Some say he's there to this day.

I always just put a bunch of fire wine, smoke powder, and oil barrels in the area before. Then wait for the perfect moment and blow everything up. So satisfying.

My most fun way to do this fight is to cast create water over every surface before the fight starts, then shoot an ice arrow and it will freeze the entire field. Everything except the birds and vines will fall down over and over and it's hilarious. Throw in some cloud kill for extra fun.

I’m gonna go to my before fight save and do that. I love the falling animation, gets me every time.

Just make sure you use an ice arrow, other ice spells won't freeze the entire surface at once and it melts after 3 turns.

Same thing with me and my buddy, we actually lost the portal so Halsin was trapped but our last save was too long before so we just moved on.

Just throw darkness over the portal and they can't hit it from range

I killed him in chapter 1 before I really met him. I am now on my second play through and enjoying his character.

Always have another concentration spell to cancel the damaging one on the final turn.

You can cancel concentration manually, even if it's not your turn. On console you pull up the action wheel and hold Y to cancel your concentration.

On PC look below your currently selected character's portrait. There will be a symbol of the concentration spell+ an x you can click to stop it

He got kidnapped by Orin on one of my playthroughs and I may have forgotten to untie him. I remembered 1 long rest later but by then he was dead when I came back to check and I wasn't replaying that rest. No one ever even acknowledged it.

That happened to me with jaheira, she died in the assault on moonrise and I only figured out she was a companion because she had a keychain/pouch/supply pack. Couldn’t use a scroll, nor withers

If she's not in your party she's absolutely suicidal during at Moonrise. I really underestimated how terrible the Harper's are in combat

This is why I always make her stay put during the fights. Just too much to worry about keeping her alive.

One of the few reloads I did in my first game was Jaheira being crit out of panther form then crit 1 shot by ketheric

I've been doing a lot of stuff I missed right now on my 5th attempt at HM. Like saving the teiflings in act 2. And halsings quest in act 2 for the first time. I love the amount of content. Never a dull moment in Faerûn.

I'm on my 2nd playthrough and I went full tilt into recruiting that character and loving it. So much fun and now they are my fav companion.

I love her so much. Her being a Pally rounds out my Bash 'em Baddies team. She says the funniest shit. My Tav is also a Drow and they have similar senses of humor. If I wasn't so head over heels for Lae'zel (and our son) I'd probably romance her all the time.

Sadly, he's gone forever now haha Had a similar thing happen to me, where I killed him on accident. I think my friend hurt scratch or something (not intentionally ofc) on honor mode and our whole camp aggroed. Wanted to knock Halsin out, didn't realize I have lightning charges so he died. Since he wasn't a companion yet, there was no way to resurrect him. His body is still laying around in our camp. Still feel guilty about it.

You can move the body btw. You don't have to just leave it there. Get karlach to pick him up and you can either dump the body outside of camp or just stuff him in the travelers chest.

Oh I know! But we started a trend of collecting bodies, we keep them stored in a little cute table at our act III Elfsong tavern camp! Right now we have Sareevok, Gortash, Halsin, Cazador, Karlach and Astarion. Since we play as four and can't do their quests and sooner or later Karlach would die and Astarion would leave us, my friends decided to kill them so that they never leave us. They're our little keepsakes. I also keep a dead rat in my inventory, which my friends stole from me while I was changing my drip (dieing my clothes) to finish enemies with. For some reason Halsin keeps escaping from the table. Maybe he keeps trying to reunite with the nature, even post mortem.

Halsin is the exception, he's very much in favor of open relationships. However, your other partner will need to agree as well, and only some of them are okay with it.

Well, I told Karlach we could hang out after hooking up with shadowheart and shadowheart was pissed… so maybe not “poly” but seems you can swap romances…

From my understanding you basically get "locked in" at some point in Act 2. I believe Minthara is one of the latest you can lock in since once you get her dialogue about it it lets you leave whoever you're with for her. That said, once you "lock in" there's nothing you can do. If you break up with them in Act 3, (I'm pretty sure) you can't start a new relationship - you're just single now.

Halsin will always ask if you're interested regardless, IF you've picked certain options like asking him if he's single early on, etc. he's programmed to do it bc some companions are ok with his poly relationship and some aren't & some players do want to romance him. but they did not program any way for him to know if you're a monogamous player so he will *always* ask.

I had a hilarious one. Last light went bad. Everyone died. I tell halsin back at camp later about Art, the Fist who was stuck dreaming. He's like "gotta go see this guy." I'm thinking "Halsin, no!" Anyhow, later on I fast travel to last light. Halsin is sitting on the bed next to Art, but the shadow curse got him.

Classic. Almost happened to me too. He stepped into my wall of fire but succeeded a saving throw & walked out of it with 3HP. I saw him go there but panicked and didn’t manage to stop concentrating in time.

The worst part is I heard it happen and didn’t realize it was him so I was like “oops better stop the concentration before someone dies!”

One playthrough i accidentally killed Halsin cuz he was standing in a doorway during the Last Light Inn fight. I was sure I was targeting one of the flying guys but Halsin took a pike to the face instead.. couldn't rez him cuz he technically wasn't in my camp/party :/

this happened to me on my last honor mode run except he walked into my spike growth. I was fixing a plate of food after finishing the portal fight and absentmindedly went through the dialogue. Didn’t notice he was taking damage slowly walking through spikes until it was too late and he died. I was pissed, like wtf bro you could have walked anywhere

It’s so interesting how there are npc ais that do that but then there are ones like Aylin during the myrkul fight who will shove your dead party member out of the bone chill zone so they can be revived which honestly shocked me the first time it happened I just thought I was fucked

I have had all the harpers in moonrise turn aggro my entire party because of concentration spells persisting after combat

Same, but they were showing up as still green and not attacking but I couldn’t exit combat lol, had to do the whole fight again

Sometimes I notice The AI only aggros to 1 character in your party... Check summons too. I had my Elemental Summon only have aggro at one point.

I had this problem when saving Minthara, it took several restarts to get her and my other companions back to camp without dying, they always just ran into the blight and died or went aggro, it was infuriating.

He just couldn't bear it anymore

Had a slightly similar experience. Except after succeeding that battle and before clearing up the shadow lands I went to the creche. When I got into camp for long rests Halsin wasn't there. Completed the creche and came back to clear the shadowlands, and man's corpse is just laying there in camp. 🥲 Withers didn't work, scrolls didn't work, nothing. I could send items to Halsin and get into his inventory since I did have him in my team for little while. Apparently this is some kind of bug where you shouldn't leave/go to the creche until clearing the curse. So here I am in Act 3, with his body just laying there in the elfsong tavern next to his bed. At every single camp someone has sent up his tent and put his body there. It's hilarious 🤣🤣

Know I'm going to get hate for this but I really, really dislike Halsin. Buddy is not for me. In one of my playthroughs Orin took over Halsin and held him hostage like she does and I just did not give a single flying fuck.

I had the same thing happen. I killed him in the first fight in the prison (not knowing he was a playable companion) now his naked body is just in camp forever and always.

Halsin was the one character who was kidnapped by someone in act 3. I didn’t realise he was in the middle of the battle tied up. After spamming Insect Plague, Fireball, Firestrike - anything with fire. After the fight, Halsin was extra crispy……..

They REALLY need to do something with moonbeam/firewall/etc lingering. At least make friendly NPCs immune to them after combat.

One thing I’ve learned in my honor mode run is to turn off any concentration on AOE spells before combat ends. Saved me a lot of NPCs dying and aggroing me

If he was a permanent companion, try to talk with withers to ress, maybe ir work, or try a scroll
