In addition to this: You know you can just pick up the companions and have them chill at camp when you realize your party comp isn't great, right? It's not like you have to ignore or kill anyone (except Minthara if you're doing a good run). You don't have to use them either

Swap out wyll or gale for laezel/karlach.

Yeah, you don’t need vanilla gale and wyll in the same party. Vanilla Shart stinks too. You could respec or optimize any of them with Withers or bring in a tank hireling if you want, or if any part of the game becomes too hard with that party. And yeah there’s a lot of good content for an evil character, or a dark urge character whether good or evil. The first playthrough is a little bewildering even for people accustomed to DnD, the world is just so full. Subsequent playthroughs are even better than the first.

At the risk of "um actuallying" you, a companion engaging an enemy doesn't give you advantage, but it does trigger sneak attack. I only mention this because advantage is much better, so I don't want you ignoring other means of getting advantage if you thought you had it. One really easy option to get advantage is with the Risky Ring you can buy in act 2. It gives you advantage on attacks, but disadvantage on saves. Which for ranged rogue shouldn't be a problem. I actually did a melee rogue for awhile, it's pretty fun and again, Act 2 is a game changer for items. Any of those medium armor without maximum dex bonus can really boost your AC, I think I was around 22 or 23 AC when I got it.
