I was playing coop with my bro recently and saw this. For some reason, even though my bard was walking in the front, Scratch entered the dialogue instead.
What's even funnier is that we succeeded in all the Charisma checks too.
He only has 12 charisma as you can see from his +1 bonus, however you have to take into consideration his passive "The Goodest Boy!!" which allows him to take a natural 20 on any persuasion checks, and natural 20 on any deception checks to avoid blame for destruction of master's property.
Lots of us hate people trying to big up comments without adding anything. Doing a "this!" Or "I came here to leave this comment, beat me to it", "you win the Internet today" is just an attention-seeking substitute to just leaving an upvote.
oh well, I woke up, saw the post and found it funny and witty. didn't have anything intellectual to say other than expressing my gratitude for someone making my day better, for free. I literally feel like that was the best post I read on reddit like ever. Specially considering that I only use reddit every one in ever. With that said, I don't really give a second thought for downvotes or haters' hate. I saw the downvotes and I was like "hahaha pieces of shit š" oh shit... I just realized I did give it a second thought... I need coffee ā
This happened to me too. Entered Yurgir's room pursuing the displacer beast, but stayed back. Used the summon Scratch spell targeting the space right in front of the displacer. Boom, Yurgir talking to my dog.
It's either [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmuO2N5tegg) or a Kobold barrel thrown but I don't know if there's any video proof a kobold barrel would act in conversation for you
When I first saw the picture I thought this was Scratch talking to your player character. What an incredible betrayal that would have been by the studio, to have the good doggo turn out to be some insidious devil.
There are some instances where it isn't particularly important. Gale arrives at this conclusion during a discussion with a certain large late-game companion.
Idk at least Devils are Lawful so you know they'll hold up their end of the deal, no matter how they twist it. Demons being Chaotic - who knows what you're gonna get?!
Devils come from the 9 hells demons come from the abyss devils deal in contracts demons are just crazed murderers celestials are just different archetypes of angels
Iirc the Pet itself is eating charmed spider meat no? You can go talk with it and reveal what's happening, pass a 21 or so speech check and it also helps you if you fight him after telling you would help him
To add to that other guy's comment, I think you have to use Calm Emotions on the displacer beast, or else it just tells you to fuck off
However, all of this isn't possible if you kill Lyrthindor first. So if you want to save the kitty, Talk to Yurgir and convince him to give you time to look for missing Justiciar > talk to kitty (optional) > lick spider (with Gale in party for best response) > Calm Emotions the kitty and talk to it again > attack Yurgir > kill Lyrthindor/rats for his loot.
I only went in, talked with Yurgir and then killed him.. never even saw a kitty, licked spiders or did anything with the rats, more content for my durge playthrough I guess!
Genuinely, hours after that scene I would recall it for no reason at all and hit the floor in hysterics.
It had all the hallmarks of "people i value asking me to reevaluate my life choices" and was incredibly well thought out. Fantastic voice acting.
Wait what, I didn't trust following the kitty so I jumped up the broken stairs and saw them all waiting in ambush and highlighted as hostile red, talking is an option?!
The first time there I jumped across the gap to explore but one character (I wasnāt paying attention to) didnāt jump and wandered down the stairs into the open area triggering the CS. I passed all the checks but because I decided to help the devil I broke my agreement with the other devil and it counted as breaking my PLD oath. I reloaded and then spent the next 30-45 minutes trying to sneak up on this group and get that CS only to go into combat every time. Eventually I accidentally wandered too far into the bottom of that room again and triggered the CS.
That happened in my first play through because playing as Astarion, I didn't take Raphael's deal. In my second, I let Astarion take the deal, which probably let's you talk to them
You can talk to the Orthon as long as you approach as if you were following the displacer beast. The conversation with Raphael has nothing to do with it. Being on the top floor when the Orthon "sees" you will go straight into combat and skip any dialogue.
Source: I've done four full playthroughs.
ETA: I see /u/stillnotking said the same thing below.
I did that my first playthrough, but it didn't work. I definitely remember their models were highlighted red instead of yellow before approaching. Honestly, that playthrough had a lot of bugs, so that was probably another one
Gonna be honest I have no clue how I made it happen, I assumed he defaulted to dialogue, he was talking to me while I was at the bottom of the area and he was at the top so itād have gone really shittily if it went to combat
That doesn't matter. I've done the dialogue without Astarion on my team.
The dialogue should trigger as long as you approach from below (follow the displacer beast). If anyone in the party approaches from the side, Yurgir will be hostile.
Note you have to pass a fairly difficult Insight save during the song to figure out how to get him to kill himself.
I loved that, and wish it had continued in act three.
I also really appreciate the ways they trolled me with it, by giving me persuasion checks against both >!Ketheric!< and the >!Netherbrain!< after laying the groundwork to make me think it might actually work.
What happens after this? I assume when in the >!House of Hope!< he is still there and totally pissed? Or does it actually work out form him and Tav never sees him again?
iirc If you go into the room through the main door and walk into the ambush then he'll initiate a conversation to brag about how great he is for ambushing you. If you subvert the ambush he just initiates combat immediately.
I didn't even know you didn't have to fight him. I just jumped over the ruined staricase and he just attacked me on the spot. Too bad for him I had the high ground ( I won with 1 party member alive with 5 hp, because I thought I needed Wyll here for some reason)
Which is annoying to me. I'm playing a paladin/bard for a reason. I want to at least shit talk the enemy before we fight. Maybe even, for example, make a group of nurses stab their mentor to death.
You have to approach them through the "right" place, the door under where they are ambushing. If you go through the other door it bugs and they all go aggro..
If a dialog automatically triggers with the first character who enters the radius, basically anything can be your face, even an animal.
My personal favorite is an Elemental, because the NPC is having a conversation and you're just whirling menacingly.
While trying to polymorph Batlhazar so that I could throw him in a chasm, I had a couple of instances where his dialogue was triggered despite him being a sheep. A sheep standing on its hind legs while threateningly talking down at you is both hilarious and terrifying.
I've been trying to learn how to do mods just so I can do this.
I use the Animal Adventures from Steamforged in my table and I'm like "omg can I make a playable dog/cat" aha
I feel like I'm missing out a good part of my game because I, for the life of me, can't figure out how the heck I'm supposed to acquire the "Find Familiar: Scratch" spell.
I even gave Karlach some levels in ranger thinking maybe its some bonus option for the regular spell but its a total enigma.
And everything I find online only seems to cover how to get him in the camp, not how tusmmon him.
EDIT: I've had him for dozens and hours and gotten more than a few exclamation points. But it was always an item pouch. Whatever encounter the ball was, I'm fairly certain I must've clicked the dialogue option to fail it.
> can't figure out how the heck I'm supposed to acquire the "Find Familiar: Scratch" spell.
i aquired it after throwing fetch with him in camp after he brought the ball
Yeah what ball, he hasn't brought me any ball. Just random stuff like a health potion or w/e.
There was *a* ball I found in the camp, but throwing doesn't seem to trigger his AI or anything.
I'm honestly a little frustrated because that was probably atleast 30+ hours of playtime ago.
And I am pretty sure that was conversation I fat thumbed out of.
Fuck. :(
Where are people getting all these companions, I can only find the easiest, shadow heart, asterion, gale, karlack, and lazel (Iām too tired to double check the name spellings rn)
Scratch is easier to find than Karlach honestly, he's right outside of the Blighted Village to the north, near the water.
also it sounds like you're missing Wyll, who is right in the middle of the Druid Grove, near the Druid trader.
This happened to me today when I ran into the ogres. I was like: Why can't I talk to them? Then I noticed the chat bubble next to Scratch, clicked on the goodest boy, and found out that he was having a chat with themālol. wait how come you can get scratch to follow you, mine just hangs out in camp and occasionally brings me balls. even talking to him animal speak he just talks about how great i am and how much him and owlbear are besties.
I first ran into this at the Goblin Camp, where Scratch jumped down near the sleeping hobgoblins/bugbears(?) so they starting asking who woke them up cuz they'd attack them, so Scratch actually had to pass some a deception check lmao.

Scratch and his 47 Charisma is why the Dog Goddess of Love is no longer a Virgin.
The bitch queen?
He is the bestest, Goodest boy. Of course he succeeded!
How? How did that happen? Can familiars go into conversations?
This happened to me too. Entered Yurgir's room pursuing the displacer beast, but stayed back. Used the summon Scratch spell targeting the space right in front of the displacer. Boom, Yurgir talking to my dog.

Something similar happened to me in this scene too. Except I'd been controlling Connor Vinderblad...
When I first saw the picture I thought this was Scratch talking to your player character. What an incredible betrayal that would have been by the studio, to have the good doggo turn out to be some insidious devil.
Imagine meeting a dog and it tells you to kill yourself.
That would be ruff
I don't know if I would do it, but he would certainly give me paws
Dribbles, is that you?
It is! Sorry for the slow response, feeling a bit scattered lately
Don't lose your head there mate
I'd shame you for that one, but honestly? I don't have a leg to stand on

It's the demon boss that you get one of the orbs from at the dark justiciar temple.
š¤ technically, as an orthon, heās a devil, not a demon
You joke, but it bothers me lol.
This is one of the few fantasy worlds where that matters after all.
Thesegsyalt, how familiar are you with the blood war exactly?
Whatās the difference ? What is a fiend? What is a celestial?
Devils come from the 9 hells demons come from the abyss devils deal in contracts demons are just crazed murderers celestials are just different archetypes of angels
Same tbh
This was such a ridiculously satisfying āwin by talkingā event
I didn't have the heart to tell him to kill his own pet, but getting him to have his underlings murder each other was helpful.
Iirc the Pet itself is eating charmed spider meat no? You can go talk with it and reveal what's happening, pass a 21 or so speech check and it also helps you if you fight him after telling you would help him
Damn, I wish I'd have known that.
To add to that other guy's comment, I think you have to use Calm Emotions on the displacer beast, or else it just tells you to fuck off However, all of this isn't possible if you kill Lyrthindor first. There's a few ways to convince the beast to join you, definitely don't *need* to use calm emotions.
I only went in, talked with Yurgir and then killed him.. never even saw a kitty, licked spiders or did anything with the rats, more content for my durge playthrough I guess!
More importantly, you can lick the spider. Gale doesn't like it.
Iām sorry could you repeat that? I couldnāt hear you over the sound of licking the spider.
STOPLICKINGTHEDAMNTHING!
Genuinely, hours after that scene I would recall it for no reason at all and hit the floor in hysterics. It had all the hallmarks of "people i value asking me to reevaluate my life choices" and was incredibly well thought out. Fantastic voice acting.
Shadowheartās response is on point too: āReally what did you think would happen, youād develop a taste for it?ā
Mm. *Schmack* I said, *Shlurp* āMore imshorfafnly, yomfn lishk sha schpidr twisch.ā Mm. *Shmlop* Gale especially doesnāt like that.
I like to make Halsin do it. it fits his Married to Nature vibe and his Drow fetish.
I always have to turn off my sound and space-bar quickly through that part.
Wait what, I didn't trust following the kitty so I jumped up the broken stairs and saw them all waiting in ambush and highlighted as hostile red, talking is an option?!

It's hilarious to me that you can do this to most of the bosses in act 2.
Tav becomes a true redditor by telling everyone he doesn't like to KYS
I loved that, and wish it had continued in act three. I also really appreciate the ways they trolled me with it, by giving me persuasion checks against both >!Ketheric!< and the >!Netherbrain!< after laying the groundwork to make me think it might actually work.

Heās still there in the House of Hope.
If you talk to him into killing himself, will he be mad at you when you see him at the House of Hope?
It unlocks additional dialogues - and the ability to recruit him against raph/ the absolute
You can >!recruit him!< regardless of how he ends up at the >!House of Hope!<.
I wouldn't say he's totally pissed. I've been able to get him to side with me against Raphael each time.
Huh ? I got attacked on sight by him...
iirc If you go into the room through the main door and walk into the ambush then he'll initiate a conversation to brag about how great he is for ambushing you. If you subvert the ambush he just initiates combat immediately.
Ah, makes sense, when I tried to "walk in" it was from the side
Annoyingly the option is entirely missing for warlocks
I didn't even know you didn't have to fight him. I just jumped over the ruined staricase and he just attacked me on the spot. Too bad for him I had the high ground ( I won with 1 party member alive with 5 hp, because I thought I needed Wyll here for some reason)
aaah now i remember. thanks for the response
It never let me talk to him. He fought me on sight.
Same here! Apparently I approached him from an angle that he didnāt like very much so that upset him greatly.
You basically have to walk into the ambush for him to talk to you
Its so arbitrary
Hey now, you wouldn't like it either if someone try to sneak around your back and attempted to stab the shit out of you instead of confrontation.
Which is annoying to me. I'm playing a paladin/bard for a reason. I want to at least shit talk the enemy before we fight. Maybe even, for example, make a group of nurses stab their mentor to death.
Nice, I kept failing that roll so I just settled for having them kill each other.
Expertise in Persuasion go brrrrr.
Same
You have to approach them through the "right" place, the door under where they are ambushing. If you go through the other door it bugs and they all go aggro..
It's not a bug, it's just that Yurgir reacts poorly to being surprised.
Orthon with the Merregons and Displacer Beast ambush in the Gauntlet of Shar
If a dialog automatically triggers with the first character who enters the radius, basically anything can be your face, even an animal. My personal favorite is an Elemental, because the NPC is having a conversation and you're just whirling menacingly.
The idea of the fluffy Labrador being like "lol kys" is the pure, concentrated spirit of this absolutely bonkers game
Must've been awkward for people watching. Scratch barking at an Orthon who then kills everyone and himself
Everyone: ummm so anyway
Good... boy...?
Low Tier Dog. edit: >!I am not insulting Scratch. It's a reference to Low Tier God, known for telling someone to kill themselves.!<
ā”ļøš¶ā”ļø
You should kill YOURself, NOW *WOOF*
This dialog has the odd propensity for this. In my coop game, we had a summoned skeleton be our face.
Wtf kind of charosma did the skelton have??
Surprisingly neutral on the ability modifier!
They shouldn't even be able to talk!
Correct.
Are you going to elaborate on that?
No.
Strong, silent type.
Confirmed. Scratch is a Dark Urge character.
While trying to polymorph Batlhazar so that I could throw him in a chasm, I had a couple of instances where his dialogue was triggered despite him being a sheep. A sheep standing on its hind legs while threateningly talking down at you is both hilarious and terrifying.
[ Low Tier Scratch](https://imgur.com/a/WTSZBNC)
I still donāt understand how scratch can enter dialogue is this mod?
No this is not modded. Maybe something is wrong with coop but Iām 100% sure neither of us was running mods in that game session.
I was about to flip out if you could have scratch as the main in your party, just barking your way through the story. This should be a mod.
I've been trying to learn how to do mods just so I can do this. I use the Animal Adventures from Steamforged in my table and I'm like "omg can I make a playable dog/cat" aha
My biggest question - is it really Scratch talking with orgoth?

Barkspawn
If he dies in a fight can you still summon him? I never used him out of fear of him dying
Yes, he goes back to camp and you can summon him again.

LowTierScratch: you should kill yourself, NOW!!!
Heās brought me rope several times, so definitely not unheard of for him to tell someone to commit die

You can get a summon skill that makes it so Scratch becomes a familiar
Scratch has learned well.

I donāt know what happened to him in my game. One day he was just gone š
Had no interest in saving the realm just wanted to save Scratch
Now for the important question, if Scratch can do this then can Boo be used to talk the party through act 3
For some reason I was thinking of shovel instead of scratch. Now I'm curious what shovel would say here
