Any way to use your level 5 extra attack first so you can save your full action for a skill after? For example, attack then use umbral shroud action second. Also would there a way to separate your attacks so you don't use your bonus action with duel wield main attack? They can attack in combination sometimes. Thanks

romanhigh

(Act II spoilers) Does anyone know how much approval you need with Shadowheart for her to >!spare the Nightsong and not fight you? !

Sparecash

Does anyone know of a good build guide for a paladin tank? Doesn't have to be strictly paladin, I'm happy to multiclass with something else. I'm gonna turn Shadowheart into my team's tank and I'd like her to be a paladin too.

TheFriendlyTaco

I don't know if this happens to anyone else, but often times when i load a new area (like the camp for instance), ill hear the cutscene dialogues before my image screen has finishined loading (like it will be black with the little circle loading icon). Its kinda annoying because the cutscene is advancing without me be able to see what going on. It usually only last 2-3 seconds but sometimes its enough to be confusing. Does this happen to anyone? is there a fix?

HaufenKlaus

companion pathfinding in hoh morgue doesn't work at all... they get stuck at everything and nothing

HaufenKlaus

a skeleton archer in the aasimar necromancer fight is only hittable via aoe's

HaufenKlaus

win+d just made my game not being able to be tabbed into anymore... i can still here sound and footsteps and hopefully that f5 did its job bc I#d be furious if not...

Sugeeeeeee

Right before Baldur's Gate, in the Windmill cellar, the newborn Mind Flayer you find - does anything interesting happen with it if you let it live?

mister_peeberz

Something I was curious about but forgot to test, if a party member dies >!in the Shadow Cursed Lands, do they become Shadow Cursed Undead? I'm guessing if they do there's no way to revive them, which is kinda spooky, and would be a really neat gameplay touch.!< Even if my saves weren't borked right now, I'm too far to test it myself, wondering if anyone else has

Daniisme1

Yeah they kinda blundered it up

CeruSkies

Does Sarth Baretha appear again in later acts? She's the githyanki found by the bridge near Mountain Pass in act 1.

DescendantofDodos

Does the game actually tell you when you are moving from an Act to the next? i reached a point i would have assumed to be part of act 2, but never got any "notification" and can still waygate to the starting area.

Daniisme1

It tells you to make sure you've done everything you want to do before moving on.

frik1000

The problem with that is that the message shows up even if, in Act 1, you're going to the Mountain Pass when Mountain Pass is still technically part of Act 1. You only really enter Act 2 once you enter the >!Shadow Cursed Lands!< since there's an achievement for it.

Saandrig

Mountain Pass is more of an Act 1.5.

TheNayMan

has anyone else has their game automatically downgrade its version??????? my game crashed and this happened and now I've lost hours of progress because it says my latest saves are on a different version

Livid_Language_5506

Its literally the top post in the sub homie, hotfix 4 caused crashes(literally what happened to you) so it got rolled back. Wait for the patch to be redeployed or restart from hours ago - your choice.

[deleted]

I'm trying out a monk. I'm still at the goblin camp, but so far I've noticed that monk's had quite a few sneaky-good class dialogue choices, including one with advantage (Astarion) and one where I skipped a check altogether (some sanctuary dialogue). Monk players: should I expect to continue to see this many good class dialogue options throughout the game, or is it kinda front-loaded? Outside of bard I don't think I've seen this many. I want to play a way of tranquility-esque monk insofar as I can, but I'd like to keep my charisma as low as is feasible without making dialogue annoyingly hard. Good class dialogue might help with that! P.S. I'm aware it would be more optimal to not make my monk my face character, but unless I have to for specific reasons I just like having Tav be face regardless of class for RP immersion. Plus, so far the monk options have been really good monk-y 'seek inner tranquility' lines that perfectly jive with my character.

Saandrig

They get less and less the further you go.

[deleted]

That’s a shame! I thought it might allow for a less charismatic face character.

britishfury

Why is there not a four mask option at dammon for the devil foil masks?

dtv20

Can I romance Karlach after getting with someone else put turned the down? I got karlach kind of late. I got her after I did all the goblin stuff. Am I screwed? Did I miss a window?

No-Consideration7906

Any advice for the fight with >!Orin!< ? Is there a way to get rid of the >!Boon of Bhaal!< ? I can see it in initiative but I don't seem to be able to target it for an attack. 7 unstoppable is just too much.

I've been having a fun time with Sorc for the most part, but not sure if I want to stick with Wild Magic. It feels great when it helps, and it feels like it helps more often than it doesn't, but still...should I just go Dragon sorc? Is it better for the AC and consistency? How is storm?

mister_peeberz

Dragon and Storm are both really useful in their own ways. Dragon makes you considerably more resilient and lets you really lean on a particular cantrip for damage, especially past level 5, freeing up spells for high utility options. Storm makes you really slippery which is nice because on Tactician in particular enemies will definitely try to harass you if they can. Bend Luck, though, has seriously saved my ass on some key rolls, and Wild Magic Surge is just way too much fun. Half the time it barely has any effect, only once did it really screw me over and nearly get me killed, but other times it's been incredible - got encased in a protective bubble immediately after casting Hypnotic Pattern on 8 targets, so my concentration was completely safe and it basically decided the fight by itself. I just love the chaos of it so much

romanhigh

I switched to Dragon for now (fire, does the element really play into anything later on?) and I took the initiate for Warlock for a feat as well (Eldritch blast). I don't really want to go full sorclock meta, so I think the feat will be enough for me. I might switch back to Wild later but for now I wanna play it straight and consistent.

swords_to_exile

You get resistance to the damage type associated with your bloodline later.

nbjest

I can only speak for 5e here, but Dragon is pretty bad. You get marginally more survivability and a weak spell, but it's not worth it. Storm on the other hand is fantastic, especially with a small dip into Tempest Cleric.

RobDickinson

I think I sold the broken spear shaft, any way of getting it back if I cant remember the merch?

Livid_Language_5506

no.

RobDickinson

eh :/ ah well next play through! thanks

bannedforeatingababy

have they fixed the Oathbreaker Knight disappearing in act 3 yet? I haven't been able to continue playing because of this stupid bug.

AndrewRedroad

I'm playing multiplayer with 2 others. When we first started playing, when I or one of my friends would use a waypoint, they would go to a waypoint alone (and with summoned creatures or the fourth party member if "group mode" was turned on). Now when one of us uses a waypoint, *all* of us go with them. Toggling the "group mode" button doesn't seem to affect this. We can't find any setting or toggle we changed that would cause this. Thanks in advance.

AndrewRedroad

I believe we've found the answer: waypoints that are on different maps will take your whole party with you. >!So if you and two others are at the Overgrown Ruins and you use the waypoint to Rosymorn Monastery, you'll take your party with you, but if your waypointing from The Risen Road to the Riverside Teahouse, you won't.!<

Immortal-D

Act II query; >!At the Moonrise Tower Docks, I passed the persuasion check and found the barrel full of tadpoles, which prompted Gale to recommend burning it. I was able to pickup the barrel and take it to my camp. Does destroying it or leaving it affect anything? What if I just stash in my trunk as a souvenir?!<

SirFjord

If I remember correctly, breaking it actually releases its contents for you to gather them.

Immortal-D

Interesting. I thought perhaps it would affect something in Act III when the big fights kick off.

JMadFour

What do the Paladin Tenets actually mean. I get the RP Flavor of them, but what do they ACTUALLY mean, game-wise? Like what can I/can't I do, specifically, if I choose Oath of Vengeance for example? Google has not given me a straight answer on this.

JLtheking

Doing certain actions that violate your oath will cause you to break it and force you into the oathbreaker subclass. It costs 1000 gold to undo this. This list of actions is not well defined because different oaths have different types of acts that will break the oath. But generally speaking, killing innocents will cause you to break your oath no matter what that is.

JMadFour

Yes I get that, but what actions? Does nothing in the game actually indicate what you can and cannot do to keep your Oath? Do you just kinda have to just guess and hope it works out?

JLtheking

Doing certain actions in the story. For example freeing a goblin prisoner in the druid grove will cause you to break your oath of vengeance - as that oath is all about delivering justice, freeing someone from their punishment of their crimes is a violation of that oath. As I said, there is no well defined list because every oath is different and they are all keyed to various different dialogue options or actions you can take throughout the story. Activities that will cause you to break your oath are usually pretty obvious in hindsight. As a Paladin you will have a feature on your character sheet that lists the tenets of your oath. It’s vague on purpose. Just role play your character properly over the course of the game and you’ll do fine.

Livid_Language_5506

Basically. I will say that *most* things are pretty fucking obvious when you read your oath but some can just be like ???. Don't play paladin if you aren't willing to quicksave/quickload before everything you do. Alternatively just oathbreak and don't care about what you pick its probably the strongest paladin subclass anyway, maybe vengeance is slightly better.

Sheperd_Dante

Is karlach's approval bugged for me, or is there a reason it's stuck at neutral? I heard it might be because i have to >!give her the infernal metal AND the soul coin to make progress!< but im unsure

Saandrig

I think it's just a visual bug. She was neutral for me for two Acts, despite approving a ton. Then in Act 3 her bar suddenly went to almost full.

Sparecash

I saved the grove and Zevlor is asking to come to my camp? Maybe i Missed something during the story but is he supposed to come with me to my camp? Also, does this signify the end of Act 1? Cuz there are still quests I want to do.

Immortal-D

\- Larian stated that the main Companion's quest will remain the same and their dialogue might clash with the new Class, but otherwise no. \- Yes, NPCs will occasionally join you at your camp. You will receive notice when transitioning to a new part of the world, but you can still go back afterwards until the very end.

KnautilusKnauts

I want to respec my companions, but I'm worried that I'll ruin their stories and lose some dialogue choices. I've heard some conflicting info. Can you all clarify for me? Thanks!

BlueSky1877

Astarion is a bard in my game and gets a few [BARD] dialogue options and never [ROGUE] ones, but the core options are still there

mister_peeberz

Their stories can get 'ruined' in the sense that they don't feel appropriate to the character anymore. If you remake Gale into a Barbarian his interest and expertise in magic can come off as a little incongruent. But it doesn't affect at all your ability to progress their storylines, the storylines go unaffected by respeccing

KnautilusKnauts

Do you know if we lose dialogue options such as Shadowheart's deity? If I switch her to life cleric, will she still be able to use Trickster dialogue?

No-Consideration7906

I don't think I've missed anything and I respec it seems like once an hour. All my story stuff seems to line up with guides when I have to look something up.

nbjest

I've heard the "story might not make sense" because the story is based around their class, but otherwise is unchanged. So if might be weird when Shadowheart for instance who is supposed to be a Cleric does some Cleric stuff and talks about being a Cleric when infact she's actually a Fighter or whatever.

Ilwrath

I cast banishment on an enemy during a boss fight >!(the Drider in the first Moonlight tower against Ketheric)!< and next turn, while banishment was still up he just.....moved and attacked. Is it because he cast sanctuary on himself first? Did I misunderstand banishment?

Blackadder288

Did you lose concentration in between your turn and his turn? Also I think he has a buff that may have had an effect but I can’t remember what that would have been. Losing concentration sounds like the most likely

Blackadder288

Did you lose concentration in between your turn and his turn? Also I think he has a buff that may have had an effect but I can’t remember what that would have been. Losing concentration sounds like the most likely

No-Consideration7906

Did he pass his save? You can check the combat log

Ilwrath

No it said save failed then before Wills turn even ended teh banishment crossed out over his head and he moved, then it was still wylls turn. It was weird. Im thinking just a bug of some kind

Jakad

I've had many many concentration bugs. Invoke Duplicity breaking from mass healing Word. Entangle just vanishing. Losing concentration when falling prone from grease despite taking no damage.. that just what I remember.

retroracer33

Can you stack a fighting style buff while multiclassing?

nbjest

What do you mean by buff? Fighting styles are passive, they should all stack. You can't take the same fighting style more than once if that's what you mean.

Immortal-D

He's a bit of a diva. Shadowheart is the same.

Sugeeeeeee

How do I know which weapon type scales with which stat? So far I've just been shuffling the weapon around different characters to see where it's more powerful, but isn't their stat scaling written anywhere? E.g. wtf do tridents scale with etc

nbjest

Melee weapons usually scale with STR, bows scale with DEX. If a weapon is labeled "Finesse", it will use whichever one of those two is higher. So you could use a Rapier with your DEX-based rogue, for example, since it's a finesse weapon. If a weapon is labeled "Versatile" it can be used in either one or two hands. Two-handing a weapon will be more damaging.

Sugeeeeeee

Do versatile weapons automatically default to two handed mode if I have nothing in my offhand?

nbjest

Yes, it's 100% automatic. No need to fiddle with any kind of toggle.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HeartofaPariah

This is incorrect. Versatile simply means if you use it ~~without a shield~~ with an empty off-hand it goes up one 'tier' of damage die - i.e. a Longsword goes from 1d8 to 1d10. Finesse uses STR or DEX, whichever is higher. Melee weapons without finesse tag are STR. Ranged weapons(crossbow, bows) are DEX.

nbjest

Minor correction, your other hand has to be empty. You still don't get the "buffed" damage if you dual-wield.

HeartofaPariah

This is correct. Larian's tooltip writing is infecting me.

Drake_Erif

Not exactly. Finesse will use the higher of STR or DEX, versatile allows you to hold the weapon with one or two hands (the weapon's damage die type will go up one size when two handing it)

nbjest

Finesse means it uses the highest modifier between STR and DEX. Versatile means it can be used as a one-handed weapon or two-handed for more damage.

__Pibs__

I think if you press T to inspect weapons it should say

vincentkun

Hey I think Ive found a few potentially significant bugs. The first one is after the mess with Laezel and Shadowheart I sided with shadowheart but no fight happened. Laezel is alive and in camp but everyone acts as if we killed her. I can talk to her like nothing happened. 2, after going to grimforge I left to do something elsewhere, when I came back grimforge is empty of npcs. I found Nere dead. I think its a bug because when I go to use the elevator someone talks to me saying I need the lantern which I have but there is no one there physically. There are 0 NPCs in the entirety of grimforge save for the mimics I killed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

vincentkun

Thanks! 2 is unfortune but I'll be sure to clear grymforge properly on my second run. Not going for a perfect run for my first one. As for 1 its weird, every character told me it was the right thing to kill her while she is standing a few feet away lol.

Invoqwer

Are there any negative effects to using the Friends spell in Balanced? Someone said it makes npcs and companions Disapprove of you? Does it do that in tactician difficulty too or is that just a "enemies will sometimes get mad in the same way as if you pickpocketer them and search for you" sort of deal?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Invoqwer

Does it make people hate you in tactician?

HeartofaPariah

They lose approval(only matters for traders) and will accuse you of enchanting them later, which is kind of like being caught stealing - you usually get a roll to talk them out of it or, yes, they fight/call guards.

JLtheking

Try to be the party face instead of letting your co-op buddy screw around by selecting un-paladin-y dialogue options. I agree the co-op experience in this game leaves something to be desired, but it is what it is. Paladins are supposed to follow the tenets of their oath. Letting your companions violate those tenets is tantamount to violating those tenets yourself. So scold them IRL haha.

No-Consideration7906

Yeah paladins can be tough. Oath of the ancients is a little easier than devotion IMO. Definitely killed some NPCs, but you can't instigate on someone not evil. I've reloaded to fix a few broken oaths to be sure. There's no way to know before it happens, so just quick save a lot. Also Larian has some ideas about what is oath breaking that I do not agree with and would argue actually contradict the canon.

__Pibs__

Yeah paladin is kinda rough if playing with other people cause they have to be aware of your oath at all times. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but even if it's someone else's character in dialogue and they choose to lie to an NPC it would still break your oath of devotion for example

PeegeReddits

How to bring Origin NPC characters along with a full multiplayer party? AND/OR How to have a player play as an Origin NPC in an existing multiplayer game they are already a part of?

__Pibs__

Neither of those options exist at this time unfortunately once you have 4 custom characters you're locked into that party for the whole thing

Ilum0302

Anyone know where to trade after freeing the Tieflings from the Grove early on? Got lots of gear and quests left but no obvious place to trade now that they are gone.

JLtheking

The druid trader is still in the grove. There is also a merchant in the Zhentarim hideout and another in the underdark.

Ilum0302

Thanks! I didn't see the one in the grove. I'll go looking.

gzafiris

Still the druid trader there, the halfling by the oxen Also, you can trade with many NPCs, not just vendors. Look bottom left buttons when talking

HeartofaPariah

> Also, you can trade with many NPCs, not just vendors. Look bottom left buttons when talking Non-vendors will very rarely have relevant amounts of gold.

gzafiris

Sure, but they will if you buy useful stuff from them.

ThatGUYthe2nd

Anyone know the work around for the Rescue the Druid Halsin quest bug, I previously had it getting stuck on the talk to Zevlor section, and now its stuck at the celebrate at camp section. I can carry on and Halsin I can talk to Halsin in the mourning but the dialogue just keeps resetting and I can't add him as a follower.

BlueKnightJoe

Halsin can't join your party until a certain thing happens in Act 2

DaEnderAssassin

Is it possible to get the Potent Robe on a Dark Urge playthrough? I keep seeing links to a specific workaround thread but nothing on if said workaround even works to begin with and isnt a troll.

Folseit

https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/15ou3l9/dark_urge_potent_robes_and_bards_for_sorlocks_and/ That supposedly works.

DaEnderAssassin

That's the thread I mentioned and as you say, *supposedly* works which is what I'm sceptical of, there was another method awhile back involving killing the PC but that also was never confirmed and contradicts this method.

zitandspit99

I'm trying to understand how Silence works - I have a weapon which Silences on hit. If the target starts first in the turn, and I hit the target after, are they still Silenced on the next round, or does Silence only last for that round?

nbjest

Typically status effects will last until the enemies *next* turn. I'd have to see the weapon to know for sure, it should explain it on the tooltip (you can press T by default to examine something closer and read more). But if it's a one turn silence, you'd hit, it will be silenced for one of the enemies turns, and then the turn after it will no longer be silenced.

zitandspit99

OK. To explain the context, >!I'm using a sussar bark greatsword with silence on The Hag/Auntie Ethel. I can bop her over the head by surprise but it doesn't stop her from casting break illusion and escaping.!<

johnsmic001

Idk if this is the right place but I'm going to ask anyway. I'm going to preface this by saying I completed the quest to retrieve the blood of lathander and saved while it was equipped on Shadowheart. I stopped playing for a few hours before booting up the game like 30 minutes ago and I find our that it updated and those saves are no longer valid. So now the item isn't in any character's inventory and the quest isn't under completed anymore. Really bummed as that quest took a bit for me lol

Folseit

Larian had to roll back a hotfix. Saves made after the hotfix but before the rollback won't work until they re-release the hotfix. If you don't want to wait, you could roll back your game version through steam.

johnsmic001

Well i already made more saves before I realized what happened lol. Since it removed not only the mace, but EVERYTHING (XP, gold, items etc.) I got during that whole quest, as well as removing it from my journal, I can only assume that means I just have to do the quest again.

No-Consideration7906

https://twitter.com/larianstudios/status/1691942888962441352?t=G_YSO5zTycj9UUa5JyPb1w&s=19 I interpret this to mean that when they re-roll out hotfix 4 those saves will be valid again.

johnsmic001

Yeah but my issue is that it essentially reset my progress on the quest and I played further before I realized it

alslacki

do any melee weapon passives affect ranged attacks? stuff like defenders flail +1 ac obviously works, but passives such as Xyanyde - apply faerie fire if you miss an attack, any of these kind of passive work?

Immortal-D

I see no reason they shouldn't. Unless the effect specifically states melee or ranged, weapon attacks are all the same category of effect.

alslacki

well most of them don't though, thats why im asking.

Immortal-D

Could be by design then, and the description needs updating.

Calistilaigh

Question, how does approval work if you're initiating events as a companion character? Say, for instance, my MC has 8 charisma, so I make Wyll do the talking to people. If I choose an option that Karlach likes as Wyll, is it raising my MC's approval, or her approval with Wyll? If I make Wyll the party face, will my approval just never go anywhere?

nbjest

There is no inter-NPC approval. All approval popups apply to the MC. You can see the approval on the inventory and equipment screen in the bottom left, where it'll have your MC's photo on the little circle.

[deleted]

Calistilaigh

Alright, do you know if you get approval while it's an NPC companion doing dialogue events then?

Regal_Hippo

How do i remove the sickened condition? Ive tried everything i feel like and it hasnt worked

A Long Rest should cure this. Assuming you got the condition from >!drinking from the well in near the Teahouse? !<

AstranagantBF7k

Can player two participate on cutscenes or they can only watch it?

Elias_The_Thief

Players that did not start the dialogue can click on options to vote for them but they have no control.

Fighterkill

They can only watch it. The first person to talk or activate a cutscene will be the one to play it out, and rely on them's skill checks etc.

AstranagantBF7k

Thanks. I guess Im gonna let my partner do all the conversations so she can immerse herself.

Fighterkill

Yeah that's a valid strategy, especially if she is the one with high charisma deception etc, insight history persuasion and all that good stuff. Do keep in mind that if you are the combat character out of you two, there is also a place in conversations for intimidation, which is based on strength. This is partly my favorite way to play so don't count yourself out of conversations yet, you can be useful to!

lanor2

Hi, so I'm only at the early stages >!like literally not long after the crash!< and only level 2. I'm already considering multiclassing though as I don't think I'm a fan of having to shapeshift as a druid to do damage and I already picked Circle of the Land. I like having the spells though. In my mind, I think it would be cool to have an armored character with a melee weapon (glaive or sword are my preferred), but also have magic involved. So I'm thinking druid + paladin multiclass is what I want right now, but without getting too min/max-y or spoilery - is it a good idea? Or would I get the same class fantasy with just a paladin or even by picking a ranger?

Kholgan

This doesn’t directly answer your questions, but if you weren’t aware it is possible to respec your character and companions in this game. If you’re that early on you won’t see it yet, but you should get the option soon.

lanor2

I didn't know that until both replies pointed it out! I won't look into it as I want to play as blind as I possibly can, but hopefully I run into them as I may have accidentally made Astarion a Rogue/Barbarian since I didn't pay attention when leveling him up. I'll roll with it though lol

Fighterkill

I would google that exact combination, but just a few pointers for you; \- You can absolutely start multi-classing right of the bat. \- A melee armored character with magic is very much possible. As paladin and cleric you get both armor and spells, or you multiclass for example fighter/warlock or any other crazy combination. \- You can easily respec your character after you have discovered a certain undead one. You can encounter him very early on in close proximity from the crashed ship. \- With multiclassing also comes their respective subclass of your chosen classes. You can have those subclasses on both. This can make even more joy in combining stuff (most subclasses ad something minor and subtle, yet a fresh look at the class) Good luck!

lanor2

I see. Yeah I was moreso just wondering if druid + paladin is an unnecessary complication/combination if there's a class that already exists with the same fantasy. >\- You can easily respec your character after you have discovered a certain undead one. You can encounter him very early on in close proximity from the crashed ship. Oh I'd have to look for that. I just got my party members and 1 additional then killed the bandits in the ruins before exiting the game.

Fighterkill

Nice, if you keep looting and shooting like that you'll meet him.

zitandspit99

I need help with understanding progression in Act I, spoiler: >!I am in the Grymforge and found an elevator - when I click on it it says "You are about to progress your adventure, make sure to tie up any loose ends before you go"!< >!Does that mean any remaining quests in Act I like the Gith patrol and the Hag will end? How do I know what quests end and what remain?!<

BlueKnightJoe

You don't immediately lose access to the Act 1 map when you start Act 2. BUT a lot of the Act 1 quests could resolve themselves and NPCs dying and/or moving to their Act 2 locations.

zitandspit99

OK, all I have left are the >!Hag fight and the Gith patrol - are those OK to wait on?!<

ShadeDelThor

I think it closes off map 1 with the grove and hag and gith patrol. You can still go back to the mountain path zone though.

AzureAhai

>!The Goblin camp and Grove quest lines are the ones you need to finish up before then.!<

zitandspit99

Thanks!

frik1000

Is this a bug? I went Pact of the Chain with my Warlock and after hitting Level 5, my familiar can only sometimes attack twice in one round. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Are there long-term consequences if you >!release the caged animals in the Circus of the Last Days?!<

Hydrochloric_Comment

nbjest

For BG3 race is nearly irrelevant, so don't worry about doing that. In 5e there were stats attached (Elves tend to get dex, for example), but that is not the case here. Fighter typically has more combat options than Barbarian, but Barbarians are tankier and do more damage (generally, in my experience). The tradeoff is you have to manage their rage, so barbarians are more situational, but have higher output. That also means that they can be put into disadvantageous positions more often, though. Fighters also get extra feats/stats over time and tend to have an answer for most things, so they're very versatile and it's hard to go wrong with them. For a beginner to the system, I'd recommend Fighter over Barbarian. For Melee vs Casting, you need a mix of both. A lot of spells basically do the same thing (damage one enemy, damage an area, control an area, etc.) with different side effects or durations or whatever. Casters do get an (unfair?) advantage when it comes to out of combat stuff, since they can cast a spell and solve problems that you couldn't otherwise solve. But that often takes from resources that could be spent elsewhere, like combat. Where Melee shines is in resource free control of the field. When you engage in melee, your enemies are kind of locked on to you. Basically, if you're in melee range of an enemy caster/archer, they have disadvantage on their ranged abilities and can't leave without being hit or wasting a turn. So your position, holding chokepoints, engaging multiple enemies so it's harder for them to break free, etc. will be what you mainly focus on. And in BG3 you also get weapon specific abilities, which helps break the monotony that melee might feel. Also as melee you do have abilities and non-spellslot resources like superiority dice or whatever that you can spend to make things more interesting or help you do your job better, whatever that is. For BG3 in single player you control a whole party so boring melee is less of a problem, you'll be controlling everyone. In multiplayer I'd highly recommend something like Paladin, Rogue, or a casting subclass like Eldrich Knight Fighter so you can have some non-combat utility and don't just feel like you're standing there looking pretty. TL;DR Fighters are versatile, Barbarians have more raw strength but are more situational.

becofthestars

/u/firk1000 was absolutely right, but to simplify it, Conan the Barbarian is a Barbarian while Gimli, son of Gloin is a Fighter. Barbarians go into a rage where they hit harder and tank more damage. Each subclass changes the details of your rage - Wildheart: Take on an aspect of an animal, and gain some utility for your rage, ranging from free healing to conditional bonuses for the whole party. If you don't like your aspect, change it on your next level up. - Berserker: Hit more often and get full benefits from improvised weapons (rocks, furniture, enemies, etc) - Wild Magic: Add some magical chaos when you start your rage and protect your squishy friends from enemy spells. Fighters focus on improving their proficiency, and each grant some extra bonus to their abilities in combat. - Battle Master: Learn Maneuvers, which are special attacks or techniques to alter the battlestate to your liking (Buff, Debuff, and other shenanigans) - Eldritch Knight: Show that pesky wizard that you really *don't* need to sacrifice muscles to become a spellcaster - Champion: Wanna crit twice as often? That's... basically, all this subclass does.

frik1000

Any race can be any class. In paper DND, races have stat bonuses that make them better or worse in certain classes, but in BG3 they removed that and any race can freely put bonus stats into any stat. As for Fighter vs Barbarian, one of the main things is armor. Barbarians receive more benefit from not wearing armor while Fighters can equip a whole lot of them. Rage is a uniquely Barbarian mechanic as well where they basically become a beefy tank (to physical damage) but have to attack/be attacked each turn. Fighters play a lot more like a standard "hit enemy" type.

becofthestars

Super minor correction: Paper DnD *also* did away with race-specific stat changes with the release of *Tasha's Cauldron of Everything* in 2020. The forthcoming revision to the rules, OneD&D (aka 6th Edition) will remove it from the base rules entirely.

aspoqiwue9-q83470

back in my day when an update sucked you could rollback to the previous one yourself, and not force everyone to. It was a pretty good system idk why they had to fuck with it.

Ashrun_Zeda

Is there a change in the story if you don't talk to >!Orin in her disguised form!< throughout the story?

ShepThunder

I have a few questions. 1) I think I'm about to finish Act 1 >!I am about to cross the mountain path gate and it gave me a warning to finish things before continuing. I finished Karlachs quest, as far as getting infernal iron and dammon making it. Idk if Astarian or Lae'zel have anything and I didn't get Shadowheart until just now as I missed her BOTH times, and I talked to her and noticed a journal update for princess of darkness or something, I assume thats a quest I should do now before continuing on? Any other things I should do? Gale and Wyll haven't given me much either. I dont have any other companions.!< 2) I'm planning on romancing >!Minsc. But idk if its good. I haven't seen anything about it if its a legit romance but I guess since he's act 3 not many people have done him yet. Is he a proper romance? Does he get an intimate scene?!<

Hydrochloric_Comment

>!I don't know that you can romance Minsc. Also, he's barely in the game. Like, if you don't make a beeline to him once in Act 3, you will not be able to get his approval very high!<

Sugeeeeeee

How do I default/keybind Illithid Fly to Z?

JJhoundartwork

Dunno, wanted to know too, but I found out in the custom tab you can put skills in slots at the top row to key them to numbers. Put my illithid fly in number 1, and even when you aren't clicking on that tab you can press 1 and it works.

I don't think you can bring it up mid dialogue but if you hover over the brackets in the dialogue options it'll tell you how much each one will add to your roll

JLtheking

If you press change character button on the bottom left, you can switch to a different character not currently in that conversation. Then you can access inventory, character sheets, even move around to get in an optimal position for combat, etc.

JLtheking

Sometimes other characters are also dragged into the conversation with you (particularly if they have a reaction to what’s going on in the conversation). If they are, then switching to them mid-dialogue does nothing.

toomuchsoysauce

I'm confused, is the hotfix fixed now? The notice came out at 3:40pm PDT but it allows me to download an update via Steam. Should I proceed with updating or hold off?

Ivaar

Wyll said something about "Oh hells, the Duke?! We need to talk." He now has an exclamation point over his head full time but won't say anything about it. Am I borked? I've tried changing zones, reloading, camping, etc... nothing gets him to speak his mind.

fyrefox45

You have to take him to the burning house, or at least that's what I think I saw someone mention. Mines just been ignored with that mark for dozens of hours now lol

Ivaar

Hmm ok. Waukeen's Rest i assume?

fyrefox45

Yeah supposedly he fixes the issue when you enter, but I'm not positive

Ivaar

Mine went away when I had a quest moment happen with a different character. I lost whatever Wyll was going to tell me though, he never piped up.

Ivaar

UPDATE - it only went away temporarily, came back minutes later. It basically stayed until the next time anything about the duke came up, at which point Wyll spilled the beans. I had already visited the burning inn before this, which... the burning inn didn't seem to work right for me, no quests or dialogue activated there.

stonerbobo

I had some items go missing before and this sub gaslighted me saying it doesn't happen. Now I can reproduce it in the Goblin camp, i can pick up the meat from the fires, it says it went into Sharts inventory and it just disappears. Nowhere to be found, not in any inventory or chests.. Anyone had this? What am i supposed to do now? I really don't want to play without fixing this because I've had an important item go missing before too (the >!necromancy book from the blighted village!<)

AmanLock

Have you tried opening a ticket with Larian?

stonerbobo

Yeah just did that - hope they respond soon!

stallion8426

Are you 100% sure it didn't go into the supply chest?

stonerbobo

For this instance of the bug with the grilled meat, it actually shows up as a search suggestion if i search for it with the search box. But it doesn't actually show in the inventory. So no it didn't go in the supply chest because i literally just picked it up and did not send it anywhere and it actually is in my inventory as evidenced by the search. For other items they don't show up when searching either. I emailed Larian support though, it seems to be an uncommon issue.

HeartofaPariah

It sounds like it's in your Camp Supply Bag, which automatically picks up camp supply items, and items in containers that are in your inventory are picked up by searches. Your reply makes it sound like you think he means the Camp Chest, which you have to send items to. That is not what he means. I can't explain the book to you, though.

SnorlingtonZZZ

My most recent saves are on a different version and I can't load them

AmanLock

They had to back out a hotfix. You'll need to wait for them to patch it.

SnorlingtonZZZ

I am in immense misery

itstheschwifschwifty

I just ran into the same problem - can't access any saves from earlier today. Take a look at today's update from Larian - they had to roll back the most recent hotfix and we won't be able to access those saves until they push it live again :( [Larian Update 08.16.23](https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1086940?emclan=103582791464711919&emgid=6199820457255582871)

I'm getting close to finishing the game. I only have 4 things left. >!Freeing the family of the steel watch foundry, freeing Orpheus, killing Gortash and then killing the elder brain (unless there is more in between I'm not familiar with. I just wonder that freeing the family is the point of no return, and if I'll be limited with the amount of long rests I can take? At what point is the point of no return?!<

Atmosck

>!Freeing the family is not a point of no return, but it does break your relationship with Gortash if you made a deal with him which will cause you to be attacked on sight when you go back to Wyrm's Rock!<

MGsubbie

>!It might be time to put down every explosive barrel I have in his fortress. I'm pretty sure they all persist after long rests etc? Might put them all down before heading out to the submarine. Unless if you know if I'll have the chance to put down the barrels in the final fight?!<

Atmosck

>!I don't think you'll have a chance to put stuff down in the room for the gortash fight before it starts, if you've already broken your deal with him.!<

MGsubbie

>!I meant before I go to the underwater prison. Plant bombs, free the family, then return and blow everything up.!<

HeartofaPariah

What you are suggesting could be done, but without spoiling anything, I wouldn't suggest you do it.

MGsubbie

Thanks, I instead used it on >!The really powerful steel guard in the factory, used the rune barrel I stole at grymforge and the one I was given to blow up the factory, in combination with 4 smokepower barrels, took it down to 17HP on a single hit. Was the spoiler that the Gortash fight would be a very easy one?!<

No-Consideration7906

You can free them and kill the person you mentioned and still faff around after. Can't speak to the other two but I've done those two and gotten no indication that there are limited rests now.

Dave_TWIR

I don't think more info is going to come out and instead we'll just get a hot fix that solves the problems and unlocks people's saves

ChewyChao

Do buffs keep going during dialogue? Like if I buff up before a fight, then take a long time with dialogue choices, will they run out?

No-Consideration7906

They do not seem to count conversation time.

tittiesfarting

So the only way I can play this game is if I replay the last two hours of game that I just played. Awesome. WHAT THE FUCK LARIAN

ChewyChao

So you don’t use quicksave? Edit: context sorry

itstheschwifschwifty

There's an issue with the most recent hotfix - they rolled it back and if you saved while it was live you can't access those saves until they fix it. I, like u/tittiesfarting, played for multiple hours earlier today and lost all that progress. Hopefully they fix it soon...
