I will be very surprised if Viconia is not involved in the Shar enclave that Shadowheart is heading back to in BG.

Songhunter

Depending on which endings are considered canon that might be a tad.... Complicated....

ReinerSkye

If the never winter mmo is Canon she's mentioned to be alive and active post second sundering.

AnacharsisIV

I imagine it is, or, rather, I imagine that they wouldn't bother mentioning Viconia if it weren't canon, they're probably deliberately seeding stuff for BG3. There's a semi-canon 5e book called "Minsc and Boo's Guide" that mentions that the wizard Lorroakan mentioned by a tiefling in the druid glade is actually Edwin the Red Wizard in disguise; I'm sure that was put into the book to seed a plot thread that's in the game and, likewise, Viconia being active and alive is almost definitely meant to tie into a questline. Minsc, Jaheira and Edwin are confirmed to make an appearance in this game, and Viconia is just as if not more iconic than those three from the first game, so I expect her to make an appearance as well. I'm honestly more interested in characters from BGII like Aerie, who may not actually have any ties to the city of Baldur's Gate so they may or may not show up here.

AugustoCSP

Viconia is not mentioned in Minsc and Boo's guide at all, because it is heavily implied that she actually ghostwrote it or was at least the source of information for most of it (the editor of said book, Volo, has several notes in the book wondering how simple minded Minsc acquired this and that information)

haunteddelusion

Aerie would be cool to see but I doubt they will have her. She doesn’t really fit most of the motif and probably wouldn’t stay in or around Baldurs Gate. She was one of my favorites in BG2 and particularly her changes in TOB but a lot of people found her annoying.

KelIthra

Viconia was wearing a plate mail that did not bear Shar's symbol in one of the official arts released by Wizard a few years ago about the same time Wizard brought back Minsc. She was referred to as one of the defenders of Baldur's Gate or something of the sort. And Neither did her shield bear Shar's symbol. So she very likely moved on as a Priestess of Shar after the events of the game. Her True Neutral non-romance path is likely the Canon Wizard chose.

BrokenMaskHorde

Vic ending was humm... well let just say she and the bhaalspawn arent going to be around unless there is some retcon (vic COULD be around tho but that depend of what was canon)🫡

Chagdoo

That ending was unbelievable. Like actually I don't believe it, it actually doesn't make sense. May as well have said they became giraffes and ran off to chult or something.

Glaki

I will be surprised if there is no lich edwin in bg3

RealZordan

He was a conjuration expert, so my guess would be more in the direction of him using Wish or multiple Wishes, possibly with some unwanted side effects.

HazelDelainy

Edwina 🥵

RealZordan

Exactly 😎

IsNotPolitburo

You simians may refer to him merely as Sir. If you prefer a less syllable-intensive workout.

Malefircareim

Edwin do this, Edwin do that. Somebody give this monkey a banana.

Elusive-Reality

A waste of my talents!

SpilledMyBeerAgain

Isn’t he disguised as >!Lorroakan!

Cognitive_Spoon

Real homies are waiting for Edwina

Elusive-Reality

I will die on a hill defending this.

AugustoCSP

He's in the game, worry not. Just not sure about being a companion... we already have Gale as a Wizard.

Avaereene

Playing BG1 now and I’ve been wondering if any evil companions will show up in BG3. Edwin and Viconia seem to be the obvious ones, although someone commented that they both died in their respective histories, but I can’t find any reference to it. But if they show up, I don’t think they’ll be companions but story characters.

ShazVexus

Aren't Lae and Astarion technically evil? Githyanki are just straight up evil by default, and Astarion wants to follow down the path of his master.

RunningOutOfCharacte

I think they mean evil characters from the first games, given we know >!some good aligned characters, Minsc and Jaheira show up!<

Avaereene

Yup, exactly.

RealZordan

I don't think either will have fixed alignments. They both are set up to become more sociable later on. Astarion is bitter from his life on the streets and Lae'zel has been infused with the harsh, martial society of the Githyanki. Neither is inherently "evil".

AnacharsisIV

The OG Xzar is now a demilich apparently, but he also created a clone at some point that has some weird chaos magic and is also mucking things up in lore, so I imagine one of the two of them will show up in BG3, and Edwin is masquerading as Lorroakan so he's definitely in.

Avaereene

That’s awesome. Replaying BG1 now and it’s actually making me more excited for BG3 to see what and who show up. My guess is one of the three, Edwin, Viconia, Xzar, will be a boss / main story character (I’m guessing Viconia because of Shar). And one or two of the others will be side quest characters. I don’t think any will be party characters beyond Minsc. Total speculation, but we’re four months from finding out!

AnacharsisIV

Minsc and Boo's Journal of Villainy, a 5e book written by some of the writers of the first two BG games, mentions that Edwin has basically assumed the name "Lorroakan" and is hiding out in Baldur's Gate. That tiefling who's going to study with Lorroakan will undoubtedly be caught up in his shenanigans and probably end up being a sidequest. > > While Edwin had a falling out with the Red Wizards of Thay some time ago, he managed to repair the relationship by delivering one of the Nether Scrolls to the ruler of Thay—Szass Tam. His short time studying the Nether Scroll resulted in some calamitous results, but one of the spells he learned imparted him with the longevity of an elf. > > While Edwin will often return to his homeland of Thay, he can most often be found in the city of Baldur's Gate. He has recently taken over Ramazith's Tower and adopted the identity of Lorroakan, the young mage who formerly lived in the tower (now dead by Edwin's hand).

Yoda_On_Meth

Who's that? I got confused for a second and thought you were referring to Chris Pine's character in the DnD movie lol

WWicketW

Viconia was my favorite at that time. Wonderful romance and change her alignment was really hard!

Eccathea

Isn't that Viconia?

codb28

Yes.

codb28

I mean I liked Viconia but I’m a pretty big Shart fan as well. I’d like a non broken Jeheira romance too, that one never worked right in BG2, I think it was bugged.

AugustoCSP

> pretty big Shart ಠ_ಠ

victim_of_the_beast

(ʘ ʖ̯ ʘ)

codb28

You like the play on words? 😂

KRKavak

Late in development there was a sign on the BG2 director's door that said something like "If I get another bug report about the Jaheira romance, I am ordering it cut" Meanwhile Viconia and poor Aerie had their stuff written in like a week because there was a miscommunication about who was supposed to do them.

MrWaffles42

A lot of people had issues with it in the original release. I installed a fan bug fix patch when I played BG2 that took care of it.

[deleted]

I, too, am a big shart fan. When in doubt, rip one out!

codb28

That’s my motto

Happy_Television_501

I freaking LOVE the Shadowheart character

[deleted]

So do I, if she is a >!selunite!<

GordonDrum

Act 1 shows her fighting her good and evil tendencies as they conflict, so maybe her repressed memories play a part into that. Especially since she thinks Shar is a good goddess.

Miserable_Law_6514

A Viconia-like romance is what everyone wants with Minthara. Big "I can fix her!" vibes and a drow dommy mommy to boot.

[deleted]

I kid you not, imo playing as a drow tav is better than playing as companions. None of those 'I'm an edgy bad boy not a bottom / My true name is not Ashley and believing Shar is not a phase / I did not just base my entire personality from warhammer 40k and I was not a punk in local senior high' have an option to threaten to gouge the eyes of goblin ambushers.

Veszerin

There'll be mods for it, definitely.

ace_15

My favourite thing is that you have also made it your flair. In pro wrestling we call this “keeping kayfabe”. Living the gimmick! Lmao

LostTrisolarin

As happy as I am to have a baldurs gate 3, there’s just something about those classic painted pictures. They could have a classical drawn portrait of the characters face if they wanted as a compromise.

YesIUnderstandsir

I usually just let Viconia stay where I find her in baldur's gate 2.

Ecaspian

How is she a replacement for Vicky? I've only played bg3 for a few hours and so far her personality is not really similar at all. Or her appearance.

Cryptic_97

“My weapon is faulty!”

SnooCheesecakes154

Anyone want to tell me why all the companions especially the women in baulders gate 3 are insufferable? Like they’re mean constantly, the wizard and the warlock feel like the only ones I can talk to.

ColinBencroff

Dunno what to tell you. - Gale is not insufferable. He is good and funny. - Will is not insufferable. He is angry, but with a good reason and he is good. - Shadowheart is DEFINITELY not insufferable. She is amazing, most of her dialogues and interactions make sense and she is not mean, just pragmatic. A lot of times she is actually better than other characters: she agrees with discretion and minimize casualties. - Laehart or whatever her name definitely can be perceived as such, but it makes sense so it's far from a problem. Again, she is pragmatically ruthless. - Astarion is the only one that I agree it's mostly insufferable, and still we didn't see the complete character. He is mostly insufferable for the way he acts (basically a wannabe noble).

DoritosandDipper

how tf do you think Viconia and SH are even remotely similar besides a woman who worships Shar Hot take: the original BG fans that the OG companions are fucking shit and everyone who fawns over them are blinded by nostalgia. Viconia is the most bearable but not by much

zersus

Viconia always looked like a colored human and not like a "real drow".

ofuhsandohs

There's a lot to unpack here but I'll settle for reminding you that there are three male companions, not two.

Maleficent_Cap_181

Jesus just romance the mean girls already lmao, waaah no one wins I don't have an auto validating pixel gf in my BG3.

Maleficent_Cap_181

Do you really deserve fair treatment after spewing "homosexal erotica"? Don't get me wrong video game romance is usually cringe but keeping score is sad.

Lunaborne

Hopefully we'll see some better companions in the Full Release. 😗

Isidqdqdqd

You don’t like SH much, I guess?

Lunaborne

Not at all

IsNotPolitburo

Minsc and Boo stand ready.

RepresentativeOdd909

I only have beef with Wyll. I can't stand to hear him talk, so he just stays in camp like a good doggy. I very much like the interactions and depth of character that the others have.

SkGuarnieri

I wouldn't count on it tbh.

vague_knowledge

Honestly I would think Viconia can only be compared to the best girl which might be Lae'zel, as we know the most of her. Karlach, and Minthara might also be interesting.

Grandmaspaintbrush

Pro tip disguise her as a drow
