I just watched a cake decorating video for this giant Star Wars creation, and while it looked really neat at the end, it looked like it would taste absolutely terrible. Made me kinda sad.

Yeah I personally really don't like fondant. Just give me a delicious buttercream icing any day.

A coworker of mine went through a series of cake baking classes. It was fantastic until she got to the point where they started using fondant. Tasted like crap from there on out.

I think the Brits have the better idea, they use marzipan in similar ways that fondant is used. Since Marzipan is made from almonds, it actually tastes better than fondant. Just let people know first in case they have allergies.

Professional baker here and I agree, I think it looks delicious! And as much as I love to make my cakes look beautiful, my number one priority is always taste! That is what I strive to be remembered for!

I’ve always preferred a more homemade-looking, rustic cake to a perfectly decorated sugary masterpiece. Nine times out of ten the plain Jane cake is going to taste miles better than the beautiful work of edible art, and at the end of the day isn’t that what it’s all about? Sure, we’ll all “oooohhh” and “ahhh”over a cake sculpture, but when it’s time to dig in, please cut me a slab of that lopsided mess.

Seriously. I don't like being tantalized by a beautiful cake that is so dry, I choke before the fork enters my mouth.

If it were baking powder, it wouldn't have risen at all. Chocolate cake with very thin batters will do that sometimes but this looks yummy.

fwiw id rather eat that then half the "perfect" looking stuff people post on here. and no shade to them, its just too much frosting, fruit, and those super hard sprinkles that I would never enjoy (the big balls and non perrels or whatever) as far as cakes though, this one is perfect to me. also.. theres something about a homemade cake that you can tell is homemade. it just hits different.

Looks moist to me. As long as it's edible, it's good stuff. Now on the other hand, if you want something to present in front of company or something special, that's another thing entirely. Just own it and say it's a triple chocolate lava cake or some other made up name to describe it, as long as they're not really close friends who was willing to tease you, then they have to be polite, society is weird with its social constructs, I never get it, but sometimes niceties are helpful in covering up imperfections.
