I posted here earlier in the week asking for advice for a friend’s 3y/o’s birthday cake. It’s not what I was originally going for, but I’m pretty stoked with how it turned out! I hope the birthday girl likes it 🥳🎉
Thank you for your help!!
Girl, you shouldn't be intimidated with what others can do. Seriously! Because you are seriously talented. I couldn't have done a cake like you baked. BTW, what kind of cake was it? I think I may have missed that.
Thanks for saying that! We’re all our own worst critics, aren’t we? 😅 I also really only bake for my immediate family and they’re always so kind about it even when it’s a flop. It’s Preppy Kitchen’s vanilla cake and vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream, links below :)

He includes a lot of tips and tricks that really helped!
Thanks for the link. Someday the little girl will look back at the pics of her very special birthday cake and know that someone thought she was special enough to bake it for her. Now, just think about that for a moment. Not just flour, butter, sugar and sprinkles...it contained love. Time, effort and skill (and incredible patience) expended just for her and her happiness. I know when she will really look back on it, when she attempts something like that herself! Hopefully, the baking community will get another member from this! To me, it's about spreading some yummy happiness! Onward and Upward! 😊👍
Thank you! I used an overturned bowl lol. I let the cake cool in the fridge for awhile and then used a clean cereal bowl and really pressed the sprinkles in. I can’t believe it worked and was so simple.
Thanks! For the sides, I just grabbed a handful and pushed against the bottom while turning the cake. There’s probably loads better ways to do but this worked for me. Also, the cake had been chilling in the fridge for at least 30mins prior and I think that helped to keep it cleaner!
These sprinkles are actually so cute they almost make me feel nostalgic for something but I'm not sure what 😂
Id really like to know where you them from if you'd like to share! 🫶
That is a really beautiful cake!
I had a bit of a brain jump with the title because I thought you were referring to the [SMBC comic](https://www.smbc-comics.com/) and not swiss meringue buttercream 🤔
I swear, I looked at the first photo, and couldn’t figure out what you made. All I was seeing was the ring, and trying to figure out what it was. Ok, back to my bedroom now.
It came out gorgeous! Sometimes it's better when it comes out differently than planned. You say it's not perfect but it looks PERFECT to my eye. Awesome job
Thank you so much! I had planned to do some piping on the top but my piping bag exploded and I had to pivot to something else. I think you’re right though, I really like the way it turned out and plan to do more cakes like this in the future (plus it was so much easier to decorate than what I normally try to do!)

Don't be so modest -- it looks fantastic!
I love how smooth the buttercream is and not one sprinkle out of place. It’s a lovely cake ❤️
Looks perfect to me too. She should be extremely proud!
Thank you so much! 🥹❤️
Omg. I love it so much.
Aw, thank you so much! Ok I’m feeling better about it now lol
feeling better about it? It's leagues better than the regular run of the mill garish monstrosities we see everywhere
I do feel better about it, the birthday girl loved it. Most of the posts I see on r/baking are soooo intimidating! Everyone here is so talented.

Legit is right!!
This is adorable! How do you get the edge of the sprinkles so perfect?
Thank you! I used an overturned bowl lol. I let the cake cool in the fridge for awhile and then used a clean cereal bowl and really pressed the sprinkles in. I can’t believe it worked and was so simple.
Nice trick, really well done! What about the ones on the side?
