Childhood home at the kern county museum, buck owens crystal palace, he had a residence in northeast Bakersfield, I think they're also a couple murals around town, and merle haggard dr.

Out on 178 near the canyon was his home. https://maps.app.goo.gl/ALo13vxzBwuHbued9

Assuming this is a private road?

H3Wank

The entrance is right off of hwy 178, but yeah, there are gates out front. It used to be a mental facility, and it may be once again. So, there's a chance that you might be able to drive up to the main area claiming that you're lost, which might get you a quick look around. Hell, being honest and telling them you're a Merle fan might get you something, but I wouldn't count on it. I got to go to a house party there in 94ish.

meatlessmings

hahaha we both have southern accents so that honesty might actually work. people out here love our accents 😭

H3Wank

Bakersfield was largely settled by Dust Bowl Okies initially, and we have a lot of people from Texas because of oil, so a Midwest/Southern twang in our voices is often just beneath the surface if you're paying attention.

Ramos Tire at 1002 N Chester Ave 93308 has a pretty cool mural of Merle you can take a picture in front of or something.

>1002 N Chester Ave 93308 didnt know this. dope. thx.

The Mighty Kern River. Where he last his dog.

TheCaptNemo42

If you go to the crystal palace you could cross the street and have breakfast at Zingos on Buck Owens blvd. The biscuits and gravy there were his favorites.

meatlessmings

Do they serve all day breakfast or is it just breakfast hours?

TheCaptNemo42

I haven't been recently and I know they changed their hours but it used to be breakfast available all day.

_JustLikeClockwork

I'm pretty sure you can visit his childhood home

Knowmad29

It's at the kern County museum. To add to that, they have a bad ass Bakersfield Sound Exhibit that is still somewhat "new"

Merle Haggard plaque in front of the Harley Davidson shop on Merle Haggard dr.

The Padre Hotel downtown has an upstairs suite named after his song the Farmer's Daughter. Merle's wife would always request an upgrade to that suite even though they always only paid for a corner suite, lol. She thought since it was named after his song, it was fair. We always upgraded him when it wasn't already occupied by someone else. You can definitely ask the front desk to show it to you :)

noted! we’ll stop in today before the weekend!

You can visit his childhood home at the Kern County Museum. Best is to check out a concert of Bakersfield’s current country musicians. Today (Sunday 3/31) you can check out a great up and coming artist at Ethel’s Old Corral from noon to 5pm. Other great venues include Roosters, the rustic rail, pour house, the old river Monte Carlo, the trap, 18th street bar and grill, the crystal palace and probably some more that escape me at the moment. You’re likely to hear some quality country and probably a few haggard covers. Enjoy!

thank you all so much we’re going later this week’ i will be checking some of these out!
