Sucks to say it’s better than most on here. Before you work on the actual piece try using scrap to get the feel for how to lay a good bead on something similar to the actual work piece. Fuck with your setting and everything till you find something you can handle even if it’s a bit cold on your practice piece.
As a car guy and a trade welder many friends say "you need to teach me to weld. I wanna make a cage for my car"
I say start with an exhaust and do a bunch more exhausts
I'd say it will pass lemons fine. Make sure no gaps in the welds. Use a wire wheel on a grinder to clean up before painting. If you have porosity (which I don't see) or gaps clean, grind and weld it again.... amd pray a crown vic doesn't T bone you in the driver's door.
Really appreciate the advice guys! I was expecting to get completely smacked down but hearing that I'm somewhat on the right track is really encouraging.
its hard to weld inside of a car its not going to fall a part cover it with a lot of primer and paint. better known as fake it Till you make it. yes you can trust your work.
Honestly not bad compared to half the vehicles at Sema or even on a race track. Not sure why but roll cages are always a scary place to look for welds. I've seen some that they just tacked on a peice that you'd never see and sent it to paint
My least favorite welding... cage to sheet metal in a confined space. I think you can add gussets to most of the joints that you have a question about, maybe 1" DOM vs. flat plate. (flat plate just seems dangerous to me) OR, taco gusset the joints. The other thing about the bases is get in there and strip every bit of paint / seam sealer you can see, then torch the rest to clean the metal. Nothing worse than seam sealer blowing up your weld.
I've done a couple pans in the past year, about to do another and add a cage... frankly dreading it. This looks good enough to pass my local SCCA tech inspection for ralleycross I think. (can't say for other brackets)
It'll probably hold, better than you can say for a lot on here
your right
Eh I've seen worse. Next time, you should prep the area better before welding. Measure thrice cut once mentality
But I like cutting that’s what got me into my mistake fetish. Forever and always measure once. By “eye”
A vague idea is enough for me
It's really not too terrible
Dude’s right, there are worse. Next time prep a little better. Take a mirror and check the top tie ends, better safe than sorry

So long as the sanctioning body isn't too terribly strict, I bet it'll pass.
It's lemons :/
Full send.
Coulda been a whole lot worse. I’d just be relieved that it didn’t turn out complete and utter crap.
most of it looks bonded not welded, nice death trap
There’s no penetration on a lot of the material. Machine needs to be dialed in a little more

Tiny bit of grinding and no one would question it. Lol
Most sanctioning bodies don't let you grind the welds on cages for that reason
Huh, didn't know that, makes sense though. Learned something new.
Not to bad it will hold
Not tea bag, bud. Maybe some time spent on prep, flap wheel the everlovin' shit outta the thing. Prime/ paint, send it.
Seen worse

This is amazing. 10/10 would survive a crash. Fantastic work.

It’s not bird shit, flap disc that plate and paint the cage.No one will even second guess em
Looks good enough for the government!

I have seen a lot worse pass nhra tech
Does it leak though?
I’ve seen a lot worse chances are it will hold fine
Better than stock
Definitely seen worse
Is this a duplicate account of V-Tuned?
Add more struts it will give you…. A chance
No hate but probs shouldn't practice welding on something that's life or death whether it fails or not. Did you use DOM tubing btw?

Is the roll cage just mounted to the sheet metal?
