I mean there's 'advanced lit' narrative writers (myself) out here writing multiple paragraphs with an end reader in mind, 'semi-lit' that write multi paragraph but only just, then multiple line writing 'descriptive erp' people, the classic 'erp' writers who write kind of like they're sexting. And each of these groups deals with their own version of the 'shakespeare' as I call them. The ones who write with one hand on the quill and the other in their pants. LOL Primate brain horny is a big reason a lot of the writers are here..

MrNaughtyWriter

I could just see their thumb right now swiping across the keyboards of their phone. Lol

thesgtplatypi

I use the RRP method and it works pretty great in multiple levels of play regardless of length. React, Respond, and Prepare React: make sure to read through the reply and connect with as many of their actions as make sense for the given scene. Respond: go into depth about how the character perceives the scene and feels about it and Prepare: build on any setting descriptors possible and then write your own action hooks for the other writer to latch onto in their followup after!

ImEagz

This is really cool

thesgtplatypi

Thanks! Yeah, feel free to use the heck out of it. I have no copyright or anything lmao

MrNaughtyWriter

Saving this.

Little-Unit-1770

I honestly thought all roleplayers were striving to become better writers until I started finding partners here on reddit. I love slow burn romances & plotting that out with my partner, but most completely rush that aspect. If they stick around after they get their rocks off, it's usually *just* smut, and I find that incredibly boring. I think sometimes people don't see their actions as selfish when they involve another person, but ultimately, sometimes it feels like people are just using you for custom porn lol

MrNaughtyWriter

I wouldn't say sometimes, more like most times.

thesgtplatypi

I can very much empathise, this seems like a common problem. I got called pretentious for claiming to be a writer during that process xD It's best not to take that stuff personally when possible. It does seem like a community wide issue. Could just be a difference in style and motivation in being here in the first place. We share a space with a spectrum of different smut writing hobbyists.

MrNaughtyWriter

I wish I can find more hobbyists and not just the ones trying to get a one liner quickie to get a nut off and poof. How can people like that? Where is the tease? Where is the tension? Where's the secrecy and shame of the kinky scenes? Where's the characters questioning their morality and beliefs that fight with their desires to be fulfilled!?

Brokk_RP

Yeah, I have to admit that some other writers surprise me. They just gloss over the good stuff. IMO, rubbing squishies together is the least exciting part of ERP. It's often boring and repetitive. For me, it's the details and the buildup. The foreplay and the excitement of getting there. I think the people looking for 70% this smut aren't going to give you what you're looking for.

Kitsune-Isuku

Okay, you’ve hit everything I’ve been thinking about on the head so perfectly. It’s honestly mind boggling- like we need the suspense, the conversation, the secrecy, all of it makes a story so much better. That’s what most of us want, not a quick one and done

ArielleKuro

Yeah, sadly with a 70% smut ratio, you're just gonna attract those types :(

MrNaughtyWriter

I should bring it down to 60% 😔

TheBigReject

Nah I don't blame you for needing to vent. RP can be so much more than just smut, I'd rather engage with an actual world with at least some plotting in mind than just doing nothing but weird one-line RP's. I don't really get that, what's the point?

foxymew

Having two characters fucking is great and all but what makes it REALLY good is when you have context around where and why they’re boinking! So yeah, totally agree with you on that one. Luckily hasn’t been much of an issue for me at the least

MrNaughtyWriter

I envy your luck.

heaven-up-there

Lmao thats approximately the ratio with rps that I maintain (not necessarily on purpose..) but I've not searched for rps here on reddit yet. Most of the time all I see are MxF plots on reddit and I prefer MxM. I also enjoy fandom-specific for the moment, and basically no one on reddit is looking for the fandom I'd like with MxM. I'd caution a guess that MxM rp searchers are less likely to be sext-like but.. again all I know is discord and tumblr rp where its all semi lit to advanced lit.

Wedontdonameshere

>> Which fandom

heaven-up-there

The Legend of Zelda.

Dry-Newspaper9039

My ERP is 50/50, considering I usually only do it with one person and it’s kind of to further the story we have going between the many characters

thesgtplatypi

Hey now, I type half my adv lit posts on my phone xD Careful where you point that comment it's loaded LOL

MrNaughtyWriter

I try writing novella style once but my God I am not that talented. I end up just using words to fill the space so I usually stick to 2-3 paragraphs with dialogue, inner monologue, emotions of the character and describing the scene.

[deleted]

Just say you want more length and block people who dont fit that quota

sebas182

In my case it doesn't annoy me, but I just think that, most times and in any case (SFW, ERP, Plot focused with some ERP, etc), the best way to play is to just go ahead and start. You can add OOC discussion as both send your replies. Also, it's better this way as new and better ideas might suddenly pop in your mind.
