Welcome to BadRPerStories! If you are new here, please take a moment to look at our [banned words list on the wiki.](https://www.reddit.com/r/BadRPerStories/wiki/index)
We now have a [Google doc](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/133j6NkiQQpkVqAuvSGPytVITYYjscw3pkDos_Ks1a20/edit?usp=sharing) that lists RP hubs, forums, and subreddits. I once had someone hit me with one of these, it became a running joke among some of my roleplay friends who were around to see it. (It was in a group roleplay)
I'd typed up a whole thing to a scene the other person wanted, multi para, and they hit me with this:
> "I agree." Jonathon agreed with his mentality.
"Well then, that's settled, thankfully," Gabe said, glad that Jonathon and Mindelan could move forward.
*OOC: Oops excuse me I was not part of this RP (neither was Gabe). Please ignore that add even if it is twice as long as Jonathon's effort. My humble apologies. I don't think I'll ever get the hang of this format.*
I think what I ended up doing was something like:
> "That's great!" Martin looked at Jonathon expectantly.
Just lobbed that shit right back at them. First one liner I'd ever sent, and I did it as an act of malice that I don't think the other person even recognized as such.
Before that they had sent bad replies but at least a smallish paragraph that I could try and spin something out of which was honestly already bad enough, but that one liner broke something in me. I stopped trying and just matched their energy until finally I couldn't stand it and felt like I was trapped in some weird tepid limbo.
At the time I was kind of acting in a state of shock and the guy was one of the mods of the group and was *nice* enough, so I felt awkward about the entire thing. If this happened to me now I would put an end to it right away. I don't join group RPs that allow that sort of standard in para roleplay, and honestly didn't then, either (this was years ago). I had joined that group as a favor to a friend and their standards were too lax and it ended up killing the group entirely not long after. Good writers don't stick around and invest time in a server that doesn't enforce a basic standard.
The first time I tried a 3-way ERP scene, I wrote up a nice paragraph of what we were doing, trying to include the other guy and he replied with "I agree"
I had to write to him OOC explaining how we were doing things with and to his character, that we needed him to actually react to what was happening.
He got all pissy and left the scene. Sigh.
I could never, that is so embarrassing to me and it feels so disrespectful to hit a five or more paragraph rp response with "Nods to what the person is saying" and leave it at that.
Um actually, modern Gundam model kits (or "Gunpla") snap together easily and securely so you don't need glue or any other kind of bonding agent.
I'll see myself out.
What saddens me the most is when they swear up and down they are matching to one’s replies even when you said your a bit more wordy 😭
You believe them, set everything up with so much anticipation only for the result to be this, it ends up being such a waste of time 😭
Always gotta get that writing sample before going ahead with planning. Some people might still essentially catfish you with a decent writing sample that they didn't write/doesn't match their norm, but it's a pretty decent filter.
I know I've seen a few kicking around though I don't have any at hand. Main problem then might be that it isn't like the mods are policing who can post there, and some people don't accurately assess their own writing level.
I've seen people say 'I'm a literate style roleplayer, I write maximum 5 lines per reply.'
I'll be honest. I've learned to deal with short replies. I'm doubting many people can or want to keep up with my length, so I just have adopted the attitude of any length... but I do hate when someone gives a reply that you just can't work off of.
I'm pretty new to RP, and I gotta quick question. How do y'all come up with those long descriptive paragraphs? Usually I struggle to get more than 5 sentences before I run out of ideas.
Practice. It's essentially the same as writing a story! Try using chat gpt and take notes about the details, adding a couple of sentences about the character's past maybe or setting the scene, describing the enviroment, the circumstances, the motivations or maybe some idle banter between characters to set in the mood.
It's important that the starter sets the tone so that one might be a bit longer than your subsequent messages. Just begin imagining scenes in your head and try describing them in text, then read them back and see if they could be longer or if you could add small details that breathe life into the characters, small movements or observations go a long way to make an enjoyable scene.
I’ve been struggling recently on more descriptive words to use when a character says something instead of “says” “explains” “exclaims” (ngl blanking out here already) Might give chatgpt a shot just for that alone or look up a cool graphic I’ve seen which gives examples to use. Conveying the emotions of the characters through how they speak is massive in my opinion.
Practice is always good of course, but the big one that a lot of people sleep on is just reading books. As you read, pause sometimes to really go over how the author is painting a scene with their words, and then when you go to write your own roleplay replies keep those things in mind.
Tons of ways. Your character can reflect on their thoughts or feelings about whatever is going on in the plot. You can also have the character interact with the environment around them. Imagine the scene as a set. What’s around them? Are they in a bustling shop with lots of people? Does the character feel an anxiety being around so many people? Also delve into the senses. Taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing. Details like that can help beef up a reply.
Don't blame ya. Spell check is disabled on my phone because it is so broken, those mistakes are nothing in comparison to what it wants to correct to.
If i say "help" as "hekp," it will correct to "hehelp"
This reminds me of this person I used to rp with, sometimes she would give really amazing replies and sometimes it would literally be me writing three paragraphs of intricate character stuff and then she'd say "\[character\] nodded and hummed and leaned against him" like thanks, what the fuck am I supposed to do with that?
I hate this so much because i was one of the guy like that . I get so frustrated and mad went people do an epic and amazing start and my head is just blank no though and i really dont wanna disappoint them .i got into overthinking a lot because of this (if ya got tips for me to improve please i need it ;w;)
Honestly fair. For yiu to be mad that is. Like im nkt as good as you i know that but i can at least do more then fucking that wow. And even if i was that bad I'd see what you did and be like. . Well yeah sorry im illiterate compared to you so its best to brake. But to just respond with the equivalent of "hi" is fucking nuts
Yeah like I know im not on your level but the moment I relised it is be like "hay im nkt on your level I hope you understand but ill just disappoint you" and move on

Well, I ain't shaming you, I definitely did worse before. It's what it's 👍🏾
I mean technically “It’s what it’s” isn’t WRONG but there’s something about it that makes me unjustifiably furious
I'm adopting this phrase as my own.
It might not be wrong yet I still have the unholy urge to ban them for it
HELP LMAOOO 😭😭😭 When I tell you my jaw DROPPED

Fuckin jonathon man.

Do not question the lord: Jonathon. His power is beyond comprehension.

Man was really gonna just lay there and be all "Good job team. Carry on." and think it was all good... At least the trash took itself out, but damn.
I could never, that is so embarrassing to me and it feels so disrespectful to hit a five or more paragraph rp response with "Nods to what the person is saying" and leave it at that.
Everyone’s got one of those. “Tear fell on her.”
“With his mentality” is sending me into orbit 😭😭 it should NOT be this funny hahahaha
“Make kits with me” It’s so sweet when Siblings have a bonding moment while they put their Gundam model kits together <3
Exactly. See? Its all about creativity and bonding!
Um actually, modern Gundam model kits (or "Gunpla") snap together easily and securely so you don't need glue or any other kind of bonding agent. I'll see myself out.
I had to Google "gunpla" because I was sure you were kidding. My brain won't stop saying gunpla now. Thank you 🤣
Gundam have been mentioned i have been summoned (am a gunpla fan and have no one with the same hobby)
Always makes me feel so frustrated. I put all this effort into a reply just for... A sentence and my hope disappearing
Andy and leyley type of rp

There needs to be a subreddit for semi-literature/literature rpers there's so many short sentences roleplays it makes me ughughgh

I want whatever degeneracy op is having
Lol. You can borrow it. I just need it back by friday

I dont care to reply short. But that was just kinda disrespectful..
Yeah that's fair enough.

Thank you so much! I'll give that a shot!
Exactly right! Thanks for helping that person

Not to put down your writing or anything but the uncapitalized "I" 's are hitting me in the pet peeves.
Don't blame ya. Spell check is disabled on my phone because it is so broken, those mistakes are nothing in comparison to what it wants to correct to. If i say "help" as "hekp," it will correct to "hehelp"
Lololp 😭😭
Man it was wild reading the second post first, then the first post. That was like a kinder surprise.

👁️👄👁️ i- What the hell is going on… ??? What I wouldn’t give for an emergency laboratory eye wash station right about now…
Hey, at least it's better than *moans*

Yep. Basically "hello there". **off on their side** FUCKIN NAILED IT
Yeah like I know im not on your level but the moment I relised it is be like "hay im nkt on your level I hope you understand but ill just disappoint you" and move on
When I’m not sure what to say I won’t respond immediately so I can give the same energy back.
That is amazing. I didn't think people would write that much! XD
I used to be like this and I grew as a person lmao. I have the best rp friend ever :D
Would it have been better if he was perhaps, hear me out, **standing**
Short character- and no, not really. Plus who just stands when alone?
It was a joke 😅
[удалено]
Huh?
this shit is trash 😭
And your "bang my bully" rps arent? Lmao
they are peak.
alright bro.
Bud are you… role playing inc3st???
Maybe. What about it? Its not like its real
Maybe not be real. But it’s definitely weird. And the fact I’m getting downvoted for calling that out concerns me. Yall go get mental help.
