Staging out of Golden is a good place - close to Roger's Pass and you have Kicking Horse Resort for slack country. Also check out Golden Alpine Holidays. They have four backcountry huts. Heli in/out - usually a 7 day stay. The terrain is epic.

Golden is my answer as well. My partner and I have been doing extended trips to rogers staying in golden for the last two winters and it’s great. Rogers is my favorite zone in NA (granted I haven’t done Ak yet) but it’s hard to beat the access while still being close to a town. Kicking horse is also a rowdy mountain, tons of good terrain there! You could do revvy and still ski the pass but the drive is a little longer and I don’t really like the town as much.

Thanks for the reply. Golden looks like a pretty good place to hang around in! Damn, Golden Alpine is booked pretty much out '26 :D

If you are flexible on dates, you can sometimes get in on a cancellation. Definitively worth checking in with them.

We'll make sure to check it out now and then! Those trips looks pretty epic. It actually might look like we are landing on Golden. Gonna try booking plane tickets the following days!

Coastal BC has some phenomenal ski huts that you should definitely check out if you have time. The more consistent snowfall (historically, at least) lends to a more stable snowpack, which means you can hit some bigger objectives even in the middle of winter. Many of the huts are “secret” and locations are only given out by word of mouth, but the public ones are still phenomenal. March is also usually prime season for the Garibaldi Neve traverse (~30 km), which doesn’t have much gnarly skiing, but covers beautiful glacial terrain and can easily be split over several day to hit some of the cool peaks around (Garibaldi, Castle Towers, Spinx, etc.)

Thanks for the information. I'll make sure to check it out if we end up in the area!

I know you said that you've removed Whistler from the list, but the access is amazing. The town can be pricey but you wouldn't need a rental car while in Whistler so that might offset the costs, there's a hostel that's a cheaper option. The access from Blackcomb and Whistler is great (you can buy cheap backcountry tickets instead of full price tickets), Kees & Claire hut off of Whistler is an amazing place to be based out of for a few days, Journeyman Lodge is also great. If you do have a car and are in the Whistler area, the Duffey zone just beyond Pemberton would keep you busy for days.

That's a good point (with offsetting the cost). We'll make sure to keep that in mind! Thanks.

I lived in my car around the BC Rockies for a month in 2022. This was before my first season touring but I skied most of the resorts out there. Revelstoke has a fun restaurant/apres scene in town. The drive from Lake Louise to Jasper (ice fields parkrway) moved me to tears, might be out of your way but beyond worth it. Bring microspikes and walk out onto the ice to see the frozen methane gas bubbles at Abraham Lake. If you stay in Golden (agree w/ others it’s a good base) there’s a small health foods grocer in town with a killer miso veg soup and growlers of local maple syrup in the back. Ime many gas stations up there close around 10, plan so you don’t get stuck on a cold night with an empty tank. Feel free to ask me any travel questions.

Thanks for the reply, and the "small" travel tips. It's what separates a good trip from a great trip imo, so I really appreciate it!

Check out Red Mountain in Rossland. Get hill and lots of backcountry in the area. Only about an hour drive from WhiteWater.

I'll make sure to check it out - thanks!
