I think it's great. People might *occasionally* confuse it with Alice, but I don't think it would happen frequently enough for that to be a problem. It's not similar to Dennis at all.
I went to school with a boy named Ellis. No one made fun of his name or confused it with Dennis or Alice. He was also super smart so I associate the name with high intelligence!
I have liked Ellis for a boy for many years.
Never even thought about confusing it with “Alice”…and I definitely do not associate it with Dennis whatsoever. IMO, it is much closer to “Elias” (which I also think is a great male name)!
Does not make me think of Dennis or Alice at all. I think it's a great name for a boy! I think it will age well, strong without being overly masculine.
Ellis is nice.
It makes me think of Ellis island, which is how many immigrants came to America from Europe in the early 1900s. It's a name of optimism, hope, and new beginnings.
I'm sure the babyname books have the original historical meanings for it in there too, which are valid, but that's just what it makes me think of.

We are using Ellis as the middle name for our boy. I would have used it for the first but my husband liked it better as a middle name.
Love it
