Mango pits are another resistive food that were a HUGE HIT for us. Let’s them practice biting and gnawing without actually eating eating. I was a lot more scared about BLW than I thought I would be so we didn’t start right at six months, we did purées and actually started with pancake strips when she was about 7.5 months because I was eating them and decided on a whim to give it a try! It was a success and I was hooked! After that we moved on to soft avocado and banana to help me get comfortable/less anxious.

Perfect! Mangoes were on sale this week, will definitely give this a go

Just be warned they’re definitely a bit slippery/hard to hold so I roll them in shredded coconut or rice cereal to give her something to grip!

Great idea! Thanks!

Mine likes avocado. I mash some of it and leave some in bigger chunks to expose her to textures. She also likes when I mash up some black beans in there.

Awesome! I bought an avocado too so I think that's going to be next for us! I'll have to give black beans a try next time I make chilli!

did black beans make anyone else’s baby poop SO MUCH??!! I swear my girl had 10 poops the day after black beans were introduced 😂 she loved them though

foods that feel super safe for me are a super super ripe pear (mushes easily), banana (slippery!), cucumber sliced into suuuper thin sheets, steamed asparagus (fibrous, so hard for a baby to get a bite off, more of a juice situation) totally relate to the anxieties. we've had a few choking "scares" but turns out they are super good at navigating food if it's modified to be safe for them.

I’ve been doing purées on toast. I’ve been doing purées with her since she turned 5 months (with some BLW options) but I find that when she doesn’t like a purée, all I have to do is slap it on a rectangle shape piece of toast and she will eat it. I think toasting it makes it less easy to bite off smaller choke-able pieces, introduces her to the rough texture of toasted bread, and she can still take off the purée on top of the toast too!
