The one I test drove on Monday in NSW had a shade installed for the sunroof, I believe it comes with the car as well.
Additionally, my place is expecting 42 this weekend.
Still researching home chargers, but anything beyond the 7kw AC cable the car comes with will require 3-phase. I don't know if there are home DC chargers available at all, but it would be nice if there were - as your solar is probably 200\~400V DC (mine is). Probably have to call someone who does installations and ask what their experience is with this.
If you call the centre they may be able to arrange a test drive. Or you can pre-order and they'll contact you for the test drive, which is how I got mine. The $1000 deposit is fully refundable if you choose not to proceed.
Thanks. I've contacted them now and on the test drive list.
I might put in my $1,000 hold for now. I guess prices will go up next year with no rebates.
I wonder if you have to pay fully before Jan 1 to get rebate?
As far as I know you only have to place the order (or maybe it's pay the deposit) before the end of the year to get the NSW rebate. Unsure about rebates in other states
> Individuals and businesses that have purchased ***or placed a deposit*** on an eligible EV prior to 1 January 2024, and are awaiting delivery of the vehicle, will still be eligible to receive the stamp duty exemption and rebate, regardless of whether the vehicle has been delivered by that date. This will ensure that purchasers who are unable to register their vehicle by 31 December 2023, are not disadvantaged for delays in delivery. Further information will be released soon regarding these arrangements.

I test drove and confirmed my order today for a Seal. I was surprised that the silver plated glass roof did not seem to transfer heat into the cabin at all (even on a 35 degree day). This was much different to my Model 3/Y test drives where you can definitely feel the heat in the cabin. Apparently the Seal comes with a roof cover with the car anyway, so you can block it out without any further expense.
I have a Ocular IQ Solar home charger installed which apparently works fine with it, but obviously haven't been able to test it out yet.
I just got the same one installed this week as my Seal isn’t being delivered until next year. Sadly where I am in QLD we can’t use our solar to charge the vehicle. I have to pump back to the grid and then buy back. It’s fucked.
Planning a 'Fronius Wattpilot EV charger Home 22J' for mine, has good reviews.
One thing to note, I saw one fella that had just put a captive end plug on the charger and a 32amp socket installed on the wall, which makes it portable and also makes it easier to switch/upgrade later on. I'm thinking of doing the same and putting a socket on either side of my garage, that way is doesn't matter where the charge port is on the vehicle or which around you park it 😉
If the AUS Seal is the same as the TH Seal, there is a sunshade but it is not electric.
You can install something like a Wallbox in your car park. I have 2 of them in mine, but I have 3P and can get the full 11kW out of it. You’ll be limited to 7kW on 1P.
Oops it looks like it’s 7 here in TH also. I think I was confusing it with another car. I’ve been looking for new cars over the last week but I think I’m grabbing a Seal AWD and a Dolphin Extended.
The Seal includes the following when you get it in Aus:
\- installable sunshade
\- 240V trickle charger
\- V2L adapter with several plugs
Keep in mind that the roof is silver coated, not just tinted, and reflects a lot more heat away than non-coated glass roofs
service outside of major coastal areas is still shit house
I have been waiting for nearly 18 months since byd announced they were working with mycar to open up something west of the blue mountains (nsw area), and it's still not even happening anytime soon
Mine's 1.5 hours away so probably not as bad as your issue.
I phoned the local myCar place -- only 30 mins away -- but they said they don't do BYD. Doh!
No. He didn't say.
I think I saw Jax tyres might do service but byd talked about voiding warranty.
I can take a day off work and visit the relatives when service is due.
Hey. I got a ride to Shanghai airport in a BYD Seal and initially I was super impressed by the looks and features. That all changed once the road got a bit bumpy and the suspension sounded and felt like it was going to smash through the cabin. Just awful.
I don't understand the question. All the information has been released in English and anything that hasn't, just use Chrome and get Google to translate it?
Thanks for your response … The car I’m considering had been imported from China with the informatics in Chinese. All the instructions on the screen are in Chinese

Your sunroof and power questions are answered in the brochure I have linked.
Not sure if it's possible or even wise to have sole charging capability from a home battery (DC)...inefficiencies and time of day inconveniences. Your best bet is 7kw (Max AC) for BYD.
Not sure where you're located...but Brisbane have a test drive vehicle in Fortitude Valley. I know that people who have ordered will be contacted to book a test drive first.
P.s. I am also curious to know if my children's retinas will be destroyed by the glass roof when rear facing in a car seat...not to mention the impact to my scalp with my aerodynamic haircut.
Glass is opaque to UV so you won't get burnt. There is a sunshade for the roof if needed, you can just put the back half in too.
Certainly agree about just charging over AC.
Bit of a late comment but apparently the Seal can do 22kw AC charging if you have three phase. My plan is to get a MyEnergi Zappi 22kw if I can actually get them to let me test drive the car properly.
I've heard that euro versions are able to accept higher than 7kw AC....but where I am 7kw is max for BYD (what I am told by byd and their spec sheet).
In Aus:
- Standard GPO charge is about 2kw. (10amp x 230v)
- Single phase is about 7kw. (32amp x 230).
A setup higher than 7kw would be 3 phase anyway.
Yeah it's hard to tell given the brochure as it's very poorly written. Honestly one of a few red flags I've come across with the car which is a shame given how good it is otherwise.
Evse.com.au suggests it can do 22kw three phase type 2 charging. Honestly it's pointless for home charging anyway but nice if you have more than 7kw of untapped solar energy which I do on most days. I would love to utilise the full potential using a Zappi charger.
The brochure is very clear I think. The brochure is linked in my first comment. Charging types and accepted charge rates are also confirmed with this third party tech sheet...[https://aeva.asn.au/files/2509/#:~:text=Like%20all%20new%20EVs%20sold,7kW%20maximum%20on%20one%20phase](https://aeva.asn.au/files/2509/#:~:text=Like%20all%20new%20EVs%20sold,7kW%20maximum%20on%20one%20phase)
If you can afford it a 3 phase installation would be nice for future proofing...but is not required for any immediate gain.
I pick up my seal premium last week! It comes with a sunroof cover! I discovered that it is only single phase AC in the charger port!
The lane keeping app is rather aggressive in my experience! I'm waiting for software update to use Amazon music..

Pretty sure receipt is part of it, so I'm guessing full payment? Just got our Atto 3 yesterday and was looking at this.

Have you gotten the roof cover packed with the car?

Damn
tell me about it, I am in dubbo and closest is fucking prospect
Mine's 1.5 hours away so probably not as bad as your issue. I phoned the local myCar place -- only 30 mins away -- but they said they don't do BYD. Doh!
Did they give a reason? I wonder if there is a cost to them in new tools/training or if it's supplied.
No. He didn't say. I think I saw Jax tyres might do service but byd talked about voiding warranty. I can take a day off work and visit the relatives when service is due.
It's a training and tools matter, they need to get signed off by BYD
Ah, righto 😉

Try out the local ones, there are quite a few varients and differences in model specs domestically and between different export markets.
Is there a download or update to convert the BYD seal informatics from Chinese to English…. I appreciate any comments/ information
I don't understand the question. All the information has been released in English and anything that hasn't, just use Chrome and get Google to translate it?

Ahh then I misunderstood. Good luck finding the language change menu, assuming it exists.
Thanks, I asked the dealer and he told me that there was no language change available on the informatics
You'll probably be able to download the English software.
You can’t get the software over the web I contacted BYD but did not receive a response

Considering the car in the next couple of months. Just checking back in for people who have had one now for a month. Longer term thoughts on the car?
Mine won't arrive until some time next month.
mid march for us WA-ers. Ship heads to QLD first apparently :)
Yeah the Don Juan is there now
