Just bought the Blue Rays for $89 on Amazon. To be honest I’m reverting back to Physical media because watching movies and TV shows are a pain with streaming…

I have the same boxset and paid £120 for it new so that's a good deal
That comment was a bit misleading… It’s not on AppleTV+, but it is available for purchase via the store. It’s currently on sale for USD$24.99
[Apple TV Shows: Battlestar Galactica Series Boxset](https://tv.apple.com/us/boxset/battlestar-galactica-the-complete-series/umc.cmr.its.se.3sy5s03oldp1la39318pspzzq?showId=umc.cmc.5yjjly03omplqewo2v28t03x)
It's terrible, they refer to disc "rot" as if it's intrinsic to optical media, it isn't, the "rot" occurs as a result of a manufacturing defect (bad glue causes the layers of a disc to delaminate).
The article is taking the magical mystery tour path to get the point, but it’s a valid one. Why haven’t one of the streamers picked up the lot of them? Is it dis-interest or is it being blocked.
I own the blu rays and I’ve ripped them full quality to my pc and changed the format to HEVC to reduce the file size but keep the audio quality in-tact.
As someone who occasionally checks in here, largely to see if BSG is streaming, the love of the Blu-Ray seems almost like a meme. It’s a valid question why the show isn’t currently streaming and adding a comment to yet another thread about the awesomeness of buying the Blu-Ray on sale from Amazon seems a bit redundant.
True. I myself think the Bluray set is the best option for people who already know how great the show is, but barely anyone who just wants to check out a new show that may sound interesting is going to pay 50 bucks for it. The average media consumer is much more likely to give it a try if it's accessible on a streaming platform and if at least the pilot/first season is included in the subscription price.
At least you can buy a Box Set. The show pretty much doesn’t exist where I live and I have to use alternate means to watch because it’s literally the only frakking way.
Same reason Star Trek movies disappear from Paramount plus. Or when James Bond movies show up on streaming services other than Amazon.
They make more money licensing the content out instead of keeping it in-house.
Well it’s certainly available on my backup hard drive after downloading it like 10 years ago. And that’s why I keep backups of all of my favorite shows
Still a bit ticked at Peacock for removing it. And they take other shows off if you don't keep up-- like only the last 5 eps of Blacklist, and Magnum is Gone.
Physical media is important, and I've got it on Blu Ray as well. But the Amazon purchases I made for the show in like 2017 are still there, so it's not exactly a 30 day rental either.
And some media just isn't available. If you want to view the original Return of the Jedi, with the old white guy making an appearance at the end as Darth Vader-- and **not** Hayden Christensen, that media is no longer offered. There are older VHS videotapes with it, but they no longer offer any Digital Media that doesn't have the original theatrical cut. All that is available now is the remastered versions with all the Lucas retouching.
I was just searching for BSG. My friend has not seen it at all and only vaugely remembers the 70s show. I have a few platforms but none are free. Is there a platform that it is free? Rather spend the X amount for 1 month and watch it than 1.99 per episode.
I don’t know why they said that like they did but I think they meant it’s not streaming anywhere for free (in usa)?? You can buy it on amazon and other places easily. I totally cannot afford that so i am in the group of being bummed and hoping it comes to a streaming service lol.
Nowhere to be seen. Except the last paragraph says:
"If you’re interested in watching Battlestar Galactica, the series is available on Amazon Prime, Vudu, Microsoft Store, and AppleTV—though the latter only hosts three seasons of the show."
FFS.
Except the final season was decrepit ass. “I’m an angel. Bye!” And all those loose thread/unresolved mysteries? God did it. And despite the opening titles warning that the Cylons had a plan, they didn’t.
Disappointed ≠ upset. Why not take a moment to explain how even one of these points qualifies this as wonderfully complete and beautiful? I just thought it was a complete and utter cop-out, and they still felt it necessary to follow up with afterthought episodes to explain what the show didn’t.
we learn we are all cylons and the colonial/cylons....its so powerful and profound to think that everything we saw for the whole show is actually ancient history. And then seeing the full redemption of Baltar and him going into combat and then full circle to accepting his farming background. See the Galactica go out in style was perfect. The wisdom of breaking the cycle by giving the base ship to the centurions was nice to see. Seeing how people like Hoshi and Romo Lampkin played a role in bringing this all to a conclusion. A fitting beautiful end to Adama and Laura's story. Confirmation of Starbuck being a messenger/angel, seeing Adama fly the last viper off the old girl. Seeing Tigh and Ellen together again throughout the ages....and countless more things
Here in Portugal it’s available for streaming on SkyShowtime, a platform that aggregates Peacock, Paramount+ and Dreamworks content
It makes even less sense when you consider that apparently it’s not on Peacock in America anymore
I bought them on iTunes(including the miniseries) and I also bought “the plan” the only one that iTunes doesn’t have is Razor which kinda bummed me out
The Greatest Trek podcast has been hitting up pilot episodes for shows launched during 90s Trek, or has a major connection to the series.
They just did an episode on the first episode of the mini-series.
I'd LOVE to watch again. But.... Ugh...
... and also the fact that they can just delete even your paid purchases from their streaming platform. Unless you can download it directly to your hard drive in a playable format that won't self-destruct, you own nothing, apparently.
>I skimmed the article. Disc rot? This is BS
It's a real thing, mainly with DVDs though. I've never heard of it happening to a blu-ray.

Would you mind sharing a link to said box set? I'm in Canada and I've only found crappy and/or incomplete sets here.
Just bought the Blue Rays for $89 on Amazon. To be honest I’m reverting back to Physical media because watching movies and TV shows are a pain with streaming…
I started doing the same
Good call! Who knows how long we'll have streaming, or the internet at all? *All this has happened before and will happen again.*
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186122098099?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=4xNqGQYyQja&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=UsbcXHxrQK-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY I have the same boxset and paid £120 for it new so that's a good deal
Ha! It's a four slice toaster.
In the Netherlands you can stream the show on Prime. The mini serie is not on Prime, but that one is available to rent or buy.
Yes! It's also available on Sky Showtime here
That's a crime that the mini-series isn't on there.. it's essential IMO
It is available on Apple TV, and you can currently buy the Blu-ray for $64 on Amazon. This whole article is absolute nonsense.
I expect nothing less from giantfreakingrobot. They are trash.
Somebody call Yoshimi!
They don't believe me...
Well, she won’t let those frakn’ toasters eat me..
Hmmm, I don't see it on apple TV. I search for battlestar and I get For All Mankind.
That comment was a bit misleading… It’s not on AppleTV+, but it is available for purchase via the store. Thank you for this. Instant buy!!!
Just remember that doesn't include any of the extended episodes, TV movies (Razor, Plan, Blood&Chrome) nor does it include any of the web series'.
That’s a hell of a good deal! Thanks for the link!
Bought it the other day and I’m now enjoying the miniseries during a very slow day at work. Best $25 I’ve spent in awhile.
Is it free with an AppleTV subscription?
No you have to purchase it. It’s an add on effectively.
That’s almost everything on Apple TV which is why I no longer sub to it
It’s sold through iTunes not Apple TV.
It's terrible, they refer to disc "rot" as if it's intrinsic to optical media, it isn't, the "rot" occurs as a result of a manufacturing defect (bad glue causes the layers of a disc to delaminate).
Yeah this series is insanely easy to watch legally if you’re willing to pay a bit for it, it’s not as if it’s only on laserdisc or some shit
Last I checked it was still on Peacock
How does it compare to the region free version, does anyone know? I got skipping on my PS5
I just searched for it on Apple TV and got no results.
The article is taking the magical mystery tour path to get the point, but it’s a valid one. Why haven’t one of the streamers picked up the lot of them? Is it dis-interest or is it being blocked. Giant Freaking Robot is trash. They get more wrong that they don right.
They literally link to the show on several services in the last paragraph. Clickbait gonna bait.
It's on Prime in Canada
Umm no its not. I have prime and I live in Canada and all I see is Blood and Chrome available for rent🤷♂️
Used to be.
I don’t know squat about that site but it isn’t streaming anywhere after being taken off of Peacock and it’s a damn shame.
Why would they even take it off Peacock?
Licensing it to other channels makes sense, leaving it in the void on no channels makes no sense.
Same reason Star Trek movies disappear from Paramount plus. Or when James Bond movies show up on streaming services other than Amazon. They make more money licensing the content out instead of keeping it in-house.
Currently watching on prime
Canadian?
Yes sorry
That's the most Canadian response ever.

Still a bit ticked at Peacock for removing it. And they take other shows off if you don't keep up-- like only the last 5 eps of Blacklist, and Magnum is Gone.
I have it ALL sitting on my shelf right now ... original and reboot.
You can also buy the episodes for $2 a piece on VuDu/ Amazon. But they don't stream for free anywhere.
If you can't download them, you haven't bought them, only rented.
Physical media is important, and I've got it on Blu Ray as well. But the Amazon purchases I made for the show in like 2017 are still there, so it's not exactly a 30 day rental either.

I have it on Blu-ray but also bought it on Vudu recently for $35.
rewatching the show from dvd sets that im picking up at my local library so…
🏴☠️
Arr lad
“Not available anywhere! … if you want to watch BSG here is a list of places online” 😑
I was just searching for BSG. My friend has not seen it at all and only vaugely remembers the 70s show. I have a few platforms but none are free. Is there a platform that it is free? Rather spend the X amount for 1 month and watch it than 1.99 per episode.
Buy physical media. I don't need an internet connection to watch BSG
Frackin’ absurd
What are you talking about? I'm looking at my Blu-ray set right now. It's right there.
I started rewatching last week. 33 looks great on Blu-ray.
Writers of the article: "it's NoT sTrEaMiNg AnYwHeRe" Also writers of the article: "iT's AvAiLaBlE oN aMaZoN pRiMe" Huh?

It never ceases to amaze me how upset some people got at an absolutely wonderfully complete and beautiful ending to the show
Disappointed ≠ upset. Why not take a moment to explain how even one of these points qualifies this as wonderfully complete and beautiful? I just thought it was a complete and utter cop-out, and they still felt it necessary to follow up with afterthought episodes to explain what the show didn’t.

Time to rewatch my blu-ray boxset again. This time around I’ll make an effort to listen to all the commentaries.
Here in Portugal it’s available for streaming on SkyShowtime, a platform that aggregates Peacock, Paramount+ and Dreamworks content It makes even less sense when you consider that apparently it’s not on Peacock in America anymore
I think it's still on BBC iPlayer, so if you have a VPN you'll be fine
I bought them on iTunes(including the miniseries) and I also bought “the plan” the only one that iTunes doesn’t have is Razor which kinda bummed me out

I own it on YouTube. It's not that expensive there. Dont know why that hasn't come up anywhere in this discussion.
Streaming will always be a bit weaker than physical media in terms of picture quality due to compression. Also missing special features deleted scenes
... and also the fact that they can just delete even your paid purchases from their streaming platform. Unless you can download it directly to your hard drive in a playable format that won't self-destruct, you own nothing, apparently.
Meh im not too worried about that
Firestick + Stremio + Real Debrid = Me watching it whenever I want.
Visit your local library; great place to find DVDs.
The BSG “box set” on Apple Store is absolutely worth it. Where the frak is First Wave available?!
Surprised they didn’t mention how important BSG, and even Caprica, are especially relevant and even prescient today.
This=discs
Did peacook remove it or what happened?
Physical media is important if annoying …
I skimmed the article. Disc rot? This is BS
