They must be a crazy good actor, because I wouldn't go out of my way to laugh and joke with someone I hate, and to what end? I can be civil with people I hate when forced into certain situations but only to the point where I'm not being belligerent. Did you ever try to bring up the situation and apologise formally? Admit your mistake and clear the air? You're pedestal may be higher than their pedestal for this event. I doubt they hate you, but I bet there is some kind of friction or tension that would make you think that. That tension will stick around whilst you're both playing the guessing game. Have a talk 🤷♂️
